Obituaries

MANCELONA - June R. Welliver, 87, of Mancelona, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long-term Care Unit.
      Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona with the Rev. Michael McGlynn officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona.
      Born June 17, 1915, in Boyne Falls, June was the daughter of James and Alta (Pendelton) White. On June 17, 1935, she married Francis E. Welliver in Detroit. A homemaker most of her live, June also worked for 13 years at the Traverse City State Hospital. She attended the Mancelona Missionary Church.
      June is survived by four children, Donna Olds of Elmira, Lynda Welliver of Mancelona, Frances "Cookie" (Roscoe) Byard of Sheridan and Edwin (Ruth) Welliver of Cadillac; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Betty Larava of Twin Lakes and her brother, Jack White of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; four brothers; and her husband, Francis E. Welliver on May 31, 2002.
      The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona.
      Memorial contributions may be given to the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long-term Care Unit.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Suzanne Jean Sheridan, 64, of Traverse City, died Thursday at Munson Medical Center.
      Born Jan. 23, 1938, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Charles H. and Louise Edwards.
      A lifelong resident of the Traverse City area, Suzanne had been employed as a ticket agent for North Star Lines, Sara Lee, and most recently as a nurse's aide at Grand Traverse Pavilions. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, watching old movies and bird watching.
      Survivors include her daughters, Jean Sheridan of Maple City, Janet (Brian) Jeffs of Bath, and her son, John Sheridan Jr. of Traverse City; sisters, Lucille Edwards of Alaska and Agnes Elbode of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Brenna Jeffs, Alicia (Ben) Kenney, Daniel Sheridan and Christine Sheridan; three great-grandchildren, Skyler Kenney, Benjamin Kenney and Brenden Fisher; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Edwards and Betty Edwards.
      Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles "Chum" Edwards and Jack Edwards; and sister, Marian Kilgore.
      Cremation has taken place.
      A memorial Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. James Hayden will serve as celebrant.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      WATERTOWN, Wis. - Genevieve Massuch Gilmore, 96, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Beverly Terrace Nursing Home in Watertown, Wis.
      She was born March 6, 1906, in Deckerville, the daughter of John and Sarah Scarborough. Genevieve married Carl "Si" Massuch in 1924, in Lansing. They had two children, Richard, born in 1926, and Barbara (Busley), born in 1927. Si preceded her in death in 1953. She later married Alvin "Al" Gilmore in 1961. Al preceded Genevieve in death in 1986.
      Living most of her life in Lansing, Genevieve, later in life, also lived in Sarasota, Fla., San Diego, Calif., Traverse City and the last three years in Watertown, Wis.
      Genevieve is survived by her son, Richard, his wife Jolene and grandchildren, Sarah and Roberta of Watertown, Wis.; her grandson, Michael (Denise) Busley; and great-grandchildren, Kellee and Bobby of Traverse City.
      She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Busley in 2001.
      Interment will be held at a future date at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Lansing.

      RUSSELL E. PEELMAN, 88, of Kalkaska, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long-term Care Unit.
      Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Kalkaska Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Excelsior Township Cemetery.

      JOAN V. PRISKORN, 73, of Wellston, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.
      The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee.
      A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee.
