BERG, 78, of Rapid City, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.Arrangements are pending at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. FLINT - Dale W. Bowron, 81, of Flint, died Friday, Dec. 20, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bad Axe on July 3, 1921, the son of Otis and Violet Bowron. Mr. Bowron served his country during World War II in France, Italy and Germany, and was discharged with the 106th Infantry Division in October 1945. He married Gertrude Snider on June 1, 1946 in Elkton. Mr. Bowron retired from Michigan Bell after 42 years of service. He served many years on the Credit Union Board of Michigan Bell and was a member of the Michigan Bell Retiree Breakfast Club. He was also a member of the Independent Foresters and was a deacon and Elder of the Fleming Road Presbyterian Church for many years. Mr. Bowron was an avid sportsman, great mechanic and loved woodworking. He was a great friend, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family, relatives and many friends. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude (Snider) Bowron of Flint; children, Scott and wife Melissa Bowron of Grand Rapids, Sandra Kay and husband Philip Dean of Swartz Creek, and William and wife Debra Bowron of Traverse City; grandchildren, Coral, April and husband Mike, Philip II, Jeffery and wife Jennifer and Christopher; and great-grandchildren, Michaela, Madeline, Mackenzie and Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Dec. 23, at the West Flint Church of God, 1013 Hughes, in Flint. Pastor Allen R. Campbell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment of cremains will be in Crestwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements were handled by Swartz Funeral Home in Flint. MANISTEE - Frances Eva McCary, 99, of Manistee, died Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. Frances was born in Maple City on Feb. 15, 1903, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Kellogg) Baatz. On Oct. 1, 1923, in Brown Township, she married Earl Nathan McCary, who preceded her in death in 1966. Frances was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Joan (Dale) Shedd of Greenville, Robert (Caroline) McCary of Manistee and Franklyn (Suzanne) McCary of Traverse City; son-in-law, James Maue of Manistee; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her daughter, Effa Maue; six brothers, William, George, Frank, Bob, Earl and Noah; and four sisters, Effa, Isabelle, Ruby and Bertha. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Brethren, with the Rev. Russ Garrigus officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Kasson Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church. Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements. BRADFORD, Pa. - Melvin A. "Bud" Potts, 71, formerly of Traverse City, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 2, 2002. Bud was born April 18, 1931, the son of Harry Melvin and Mary Elizabeth (Pace) Potts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. Following his retirement from truck driving, he moved back to Bradford, Pa., where he loved wood carving and feeding the wildlife who came down the mountain behind his home. Survivors include his companion of 14 years, Virginia Eddy of Bradford, Pa.; eight children, Beth (Clinton) Thomas of Pennsylvania, Harry (Betty) Minich of Pennsylvania, Ron Minich of Pennsylvania, Chris (Sue) Minich of Virginia, Tim Minich of North Carolina, Sonya (Kevin) Novak of Thompsonville, Sherry McIntyre of Henderson, Nev., and Jeff Potts of Traverse City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Dorthea. To honor his wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be at the Limestone Cemetery in Limestone, N.Y., beside his mother and father. |
