TRAVERSE CITY Virgie L. Poe, 86, of Traverse City, formerly of Leachville, Ark., died Monday at Munson Medical Center.
      Born July 26, 1916, in Holcomb, Mo., she was the daughter of William and Nancy (Ballard) Woods. On Aug. 26, 1939, in Buckeye, Mo., she married Paul E. Poe, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1993.
      Virgie had been a resident of the Traverse City area since 1968. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
      Survivors include her daughters, Sue (Jim) Sheffield of Beulah, Mary (Robyn) Roach of Judsonia, Ark., and Paulette Poe of Stanwood; sons, Billy Poe of Hot Springs, Ark., and Michael Poe of Honor; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
      Along with her husband, Paul, Virgie was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Poe.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday evening, Dec. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the Howard Funeral Home, 203 East Third Street, Leachville, Ark., on Sunday, Dec. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m.
      Funeral services will be held at the Howard Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Leachville City Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kitchen Fund C/O St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 8190 Lincoln Road, Beulah, MI 49617.
     
      Peter R. Second, 76, of Elk Rapids, formerly of Redford Township, died Monday at Munson Medical Center.was born in Detroit on Feb. 28, 1926, the son of John and Frances Second. He married Marian Hartman in Detroit in 1948.was a system technician for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for 34 years, retiring to Elk Rapids in 1982. He was a member of Kewadin United Methodist Church, the AmVets and the VFW Cherryland Post #2780. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.'s life was dedicated to his family. He left a legacy of integrity to family and extended families. He will be sadly missed by all.is survived by his wife, Marian of Elk Rapids; children, Jane (Joe) Gunsberg of Traverse City, Carol (John) Kargul of Ypsilanti and Lori Morrison of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; his sister, Ann (Stanley) Duval of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews.was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Madeline, Theresa, Hilda, and Louise; brothers, Ted and Bernard.honor Peter's wishes, cremation has taken place.       Colita Nuernberger Smith, a former resident of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Plainwell.in Verden, Okla., in 1926, she graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO) in 1946. She married Philip B. Smith in 1949; they raised three children.and her husband, who was the director of the Regional Psychiatric Hospital, resided in Traverse City from 1973 until his retirement in 1982.addition to her roles as wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Smith was a pianist and music teacher, active with local music organizations.is survived by a brother, her husband, two sons and a daughter.family services will be held in Plainwell.may be sent to 419 Walnut Woods Court, Plainwell, MI 49008.
     
      AUDREY HANNA, 86, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Maple Valley Nursing Home.have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      THOMPSONVILLE Kathleen Frances Windrim, 51, of Thompsonville, died Tuesday at her residence.
      She was born in Traverse City on June 4, 1951, the daughter of Paul and Mildred (Reagan) Merchant.
      Kathleen was currently employed at Continental Industries in Beulah. She enjoyed reading books, and she loved working in her flower gardens.
      On July 20, 1981, in Lake Ann, she married Timothy L. Windrim, who survives. She is also survived by three sons, Paul (Kristolyn) Denny of Karlin, T.J. Windrim, currently in the U.S. Air Force, and Brad Windrim of Thompsonville; two grandchildren, Robert Anthony James Denny and Dustin Zachary Denny; and one brother, Clarence (Lisa) Merchant of Lake Ann.
      Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents.
      Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the First Congregational Church in Thompsonville.
      The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements.
