MERCHBERGER III, age 57, of Traverse City, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Frankfort, with Father Ray Cotter as celebrant. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. The family was served by the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah. ROSE J. SHAFFRAN, 93, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at her home. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. TRAVERSE CITY - Maurice E. Mummey Sr., 85, of Traverse City since 1958, and formerly of Manistee and Onekama, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Traverse Manor. Maurice was born on Feb. 12, 1916, in Ludington, the son of Ray and Goldie (Cleland) Mummey. Maurice served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Traverse City Eagles Aerie #383 for over 50 years. Maurice loved to fish and was known for growing the largest tomatoes in Grand Traverse County. Maurice owned and operated Northwestern Beauty Academy on 8th Street in Traverse City, from 1958 until his retirement in 1976. Maurice is survived by four daughters, Maureen Aites of Green Valley, Ariz., Lucy Bush of Venice, Calif., Shelly (Dave) Edge of Grawn and Rhonda (Juan) Rodriquez of Chicago; three sons, Maurice "Buz" (Beverly) Mummey Jr. of Rockwall, Texas, Robert (Alice) Mummey of Onekama and Marshall (Cassalyn) Mummey of Lake Ann; two sisters, Barbara Krolczyk of Manistee and Muriel (Steve) Kirol of Apple Valley, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; and special friend and companion, Martha Mummey of Interlochen. Maurice is also survived by many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Romona and Jaquita; one daughter, Mary Ester Mummey; two brothers, Robert and Roland Mummey; and one grandson, Boyd Aites. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dean Bailey officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Cherryland VFW Post #2780 of Traverse City. Entombment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery Mausoleum in Manistee. Memorial contributions may be directed to Central United Methodist Church, Munson Hospice, or the Traverse City Eagles Aerie #383. Reynolds, aged 93, of Ludington, and formerly of Freesoil, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Tendercare Nursing Center of Ludington. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, James (Patty) of Traverse City, Ralph (Sharon) and Gary (Margie), all of Freesoil, and Warren (Carol) of Ludington; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Florence Fuller of Ruby Creek, and Marian Fuller of East Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Stephens Funeral Chapel in Scottville, with Pastor Jan O'Brien officiating. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Freesoil in the spring. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Freesoil United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home. Gooch, 72, of Traverse City, and formerly of Troy, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002. Don was a retired die designer. Don is survived by his wife, Deborah, daughter, Aaron and son, Zachary, all of Traverse City; a brother, Hank Gooch of Alabama; his good friend and nephew, Bob (Cheryl) Icard of Traverse City; and several other nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Resurrection Life Church, 1402 Carlisle Road, Traverse City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Gooch Fund, c/o Resurrection Life Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. |
