OAKLEY FITZHUGH, 92, of Elberta, died Monday morning, July 22, 2002, at The Maples in Frankfort.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
      DONALD HEMMING, 71, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his home following a long illness.
      Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Central United Methodist Church.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      A graveside service for CLIFFORD E. REICHARD, is scheduled for August, 2002, in Barnum Cemetery in Mayfield, Mich.
      Mr. Reichard, 87, of Pinehurst, N.C., and formerly of Traverse City, died June 23, 2002, in Pinehurst, N.C.
     
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Annabel Blystone, 73, of Traverse City, died Sunday, July 21, at Munson Medical Center following a sudden illness.
      Ann is survived by her husband of 50 years, Paul; children, Becky Bugala of Fenton, Kimberly White and Mark Blystone, both of Flowery Branch, Ga., Nancy Swearengin of Grass Lake; and six grandchildren.
      Visitation will take place at the Gerald Medice Funeral Home in North Apollo, Pa. on Thursday, July 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
      Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
      Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
      Ann was a Gift of Life donor and memorial contributions may be directed to either the Gift of Life, or The Presbyterian Church in Traverse City.
      Local arrangements were made by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      PHOENIX, Ariz. - Florence Viola Enyart, 87, of Phoenix, passed away Monday, June 17, 2002.
      Florence was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Rockford, Ill. She lived in Michigan most of her adult life and was a longtime resident of the Williamsburg area until the death of her husband, Kenneth Enyart in 1990. The following year she moved to Eugene, Ore. to be near her son, Lynn (Nancy) Enyart. In March of this year, Florence moved to Arizona to be near her daughter, Janet (Nils) Anderson of Scottsdale, Ariz.
      Florence was a gentle and kind person who enjoyed both reading and writing poetry. She was also very fond of animals. She is greatly missed by her family and friends.
      She is survived by her son, Lynn and his wife Nancy Enyart of Eugene, Ore., and her daughter, Janet and her husband Nils Anderson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
      A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Yuba Cemetery in Yuba.
     
      SAGINAW TOWNSHIP - Janet C. Firchau, 70, of Saginaw Township, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper.
      She was born April 9, 1932, in Saginaw. Janet graduated from Saginaw High School in 1950, and was an active member of the reunion committee. She married Fred W. Firchau in Saginaw on June 6, 1953. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1994.
      Janet was a gracious lady who was a loving mother, a kind and generous grandmother and a great, fun loving friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Higgins Lake for many years and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
      She is survived by her two daughters, Sarah "Sally" (Richard) Guzowski, and Susan L. (James) Van Dusen, all of Traverse City; three grandsons, Josef M., Andrew A. and Matthew P. Guzowski; three brothers, John (Sara) Cornwell of Muskegon, Art (Ruth) Howson of Rockford, and Bill (Anne) Howson of Bear Lake; her brother-in-law, Bob (Druanne) Firchau of Midland; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, many close friends, and her beloved dog, Lacey.
      Friends may call today from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter off State St. in Saginaw.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
      Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Saginaw Rescue Mission, the Saginaw Community Foundation, or to the American Cancer Society.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Jackie G. "Jack" Foster, 67, of Traverse City, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002, at his home.
      He was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Annandale, Minn., the son of the late George and Mavis (Hanson) Foster. He graduated from Annandale High School in 1953, and received his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud University in 1963. Jack married Ramona Workman on March 28, 1959 in Monticello, Minn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January, 1955 to December, 1957.
      Jack was a teacher for the Frankfort-Elberta Public School System for 27 years, retiring in 1993. He was a lifetime member of the National Educational Association and the Michigan Education Association, and Volunteer Services Heritage Alliance of Munson Medical Center. Jack and Ramona attended the Central United Methodist Church of Traverse City.
      Jack is survived by his wife, Ramona Foster of Traverse City; two daughters and their spouses, Julie (Craig) Hiscock of Dallas, Texas, and Jacqueline (Bob) Barone of Suffolk, Va.; his granddaughter, Amber Hiscock of Texas; and his niece and nephews, Linda Zucco of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kevin Sand and Aaron Ryan of both of Florida.
      Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two sisters, Candace Ryan and Marilyn Sand.
      A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m., at the Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St. in Traverse City, with Pastors John Ellinger, Richard Stoddard, and Richard Hooker officiating. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.

      BUCKLEY - James "Bill" Steed, 78, of Buckley, died Monday, July 22, at his home.
      Born Oct. 17, 1923, at his farm home in Buckley, he was the son of James and Bertha (Bye) Steed. On Nov. 15, 1941, in the same farm house he was born in, he married the former Agnes Zalud of Nessen City.
      Bill served on the board of review for several years for Grant Township. He was a dedicated farmer all his life, dairy for 43 years, beef for 13 years, and small grains for 4 years. A good carpenter, one of his greatest joys was helping to remodel the Grant United Methodist Church, which included the building of both the altar and the baptismal font along with other tasks. Bill also helped many of his neighbors with their building projects. He also enjoyed visiting and playing cards with his friends. Bill and Agnes were elected into the Michigan Farmers' Hall of Fame on Aug. 30, 1991.
      Survivors include his wife of 60 devoted years, Agnes; three sons, Roger (Kay) Steed of Traverse City, Jess (Lynne) Steed of Buckley, Jim Steed of Buckley; two daughters, Sandy (Mark) Piotrowski of Traverse City, and Mary (Wes) Kimbel of Thompsonville; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
      Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herbert of Interlochen and Stanley of Traverse City.
      Visitation will be held today between 7 and 9 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Funeral services will be held at Grant United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 25, at 1 p.m. Pastor James Breithaupt will be officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grant United Methodist Church, or to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.
     
      RAPID CITY - Henry George Udell, 81, of Rapid City, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 22, 2002.
      He was born to George Henry and Sarah (Sayles) Udell on Aug. 1, 1920. Henry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from October of 1942 to December of 1945, and saw action in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received many decorations, commendations, and citations including the Bronze Star.
      Henry was a Christian man and was an Elder of the Rapid City Church of Christ for many years. He was also a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America in Rapid City for many years also.
      He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Rosemary (Timmons) Udell; their six children, Linda Robertson, Robert Udell, Mary (Ronald) Smith, David (Vickie) Udell, Tom Udell & Cathy (Mark) Petrie; 11 grandchildren, Matt (Brandi) Robertson, Scott Udell, Bobbi Jo (Brad) Stanbery, Ronetta (Randy) Miller, Ryan Smith, Tiffany, Lindsay & David Udell, Anna & Jesse Udell, & Brian Hurst; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cody, Ryanne, Seth, Lillian & Emily; his brother, Howard & three sisters, Ethel Merryman, Marie Aller & Marion (Jack) Fangboner; sister-in-law, Sarah Udell; & a host of nieces & nephews.
      Along with his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Udell Webber in 1973; four brothers, Frank, Amos, Nelson & Kenneth; & three sisters, Bertha Purvis, Beatrice Hollenbeck, & Eva Udell.
      Henry dearly loved his family as they loved him. He will be dearly missed by his wife and all of his relatives and friends.
      Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Clearwater Township Cemetery.
