Obituaries

TRAVERSE CITY - Jon Kenneth Clarence Scott, infant son of Jon and Kendra Scott of Traverse City, was born and died on Tuesday, June 25, 2002.
      Other survivors include his sister, Kaitlyn Scott; maternal grandmother, Diane Fitzek, and paternal grandmother, Helen Scott.
      He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Fitzek, and his paternal grandfather, Clarence Scott.
      Graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, with Pastor Larry Ross from First Christian Church officiating.
      Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Ruth Della Henke, 86, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Bortz Health Care Center.
      She was born Dec. 5, 1915, in Detroit, to the late Thomas R. and Della Mae (Markle) Collins. On Sept. 9, 1939, she wed Joseph M. Henke, in Detroit. Ruth was employed as a secretary for over 20 years with the Grosse Pointe Public Library. She moved to Traverse City in 1981. Ruth was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
      Ruth loved being around the water and enjoyed boating and swimming. She also was an avid reader, liked to travel and was an active participant at the Traverse City Senior Center. But above all, Ruth enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
      Ruth is survived by her children, Joseph M. (Rachel) Henke, M.D. of Coos Bay, Ore, Karen (David) Manthei of Traverse City and Suzanne (Glenn) Fiebelkorn of Muskegon; seven grandchildren, Mark Henke, D.D.S., Heather Place, Stacy Aulicino, Nikki Caldwell, Kevin Fiebelkorn, Dan Fiebelkorn and Chris Fiebelkorn; eight great-grandchildren; her three sisters, Betty Birrell, June Harvey and Shirley Collins, and one brother, Roy Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
      Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on March 12, 2001.
      A Mass from the Order of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday, July 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father James Hayden as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday, one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in the Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider memorial contributions to either the Father Fred Foundation, or to the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy.
      Arrangements have been handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      JANE L. BULLISS, 62, of Glen Arbor, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
      Arrangements are pending with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      RUTH N. CARPENTER, 98, of Grayling, died Friday, June 28, 2002.
      Private family services have been held.
      Arrangements by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel.
     
      SHIRLEY ANN COTTON, 65, of Manistee, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus in Grand Rapids.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Oak Grove Cremation Center in Manistee. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services.
      The Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
     
      ILENE J. THOMPSON, 78, of Manistee, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at her home.
      No services are being planned.
