Allen Park - John M. Callery, 76, of Allen Park, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002.
      He was the beloved husband of Betty; loving father of Gail Mason, Colleen Sajdak, Kathleen (Richard) Abbott, John (Rebecca), Daniel (Joyce), James (Kathy), Robert (Dana) and Timothy; dear friend of David Bilko; dear brother of Germaine (Don) Evans and Colleen (Andrew) McCann; dear brother-in-law of Robert (Mary) Lenden; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
      Memorial donations may be sent to Arbor Hospice & Home Care, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48103-8944.
     
      HILLSDALE - Virginia Creamer, 86, formerly of Traverse City, died on Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Hillsdale due to complications of Alzheimer's disease.
      Virginia was a spiritual teacher and counselor who lived in Traverse City for over 20 years.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1981.
      Virginia is survived by her five children, Norman (Katy) Creamer of Bellaire, David (Dianne) Creamer of Lansing, Tom Creamer of Grand Rapids, Kathy (John) Loveless of Hillsdale and Steven (CongJu) Creamer of Lansing. Also surviving Virginia are her eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Hillsdale County, or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
     
      HUFFMAN, Texas - Mercedes Weaver Horner, 82, of Fife Lake, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2002, in the home of her daughter, Sylvia Bumstead, in Huffman, Texas.
      Mercedes was born July 8, 1919, in Grand Rapids, to Glen and Almeda Weaver. She grew up in Fife Lake with her sister, Shirley, and brothers, Ross, Ted, Lawrence and Glen. She attended school in Fife Lake through the tenth grade.
      Mercedes is survived by her daughter, Sylvia (Richard) Bumstead of Huffman, Texas; her son, Larry (Judi) Bjork of Dewey, Ariz.; her husband, Andy, and his children, Sharon (Doug) Black of Coldwater, Roger Horner of Fife Lake and Wayne Horner of Buffalo, N.Y.; her sister, Shirley (Donald) Marhofer; her brother, Ted (Opal) Weaver of Fife Lake; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Almeda Weaver; her former husband, Howard Bjork and their infant son, Glen Bjork; her brothers, Ross, Lawrence and Glen Weaver; and two sisters in infancy.
      Mercedes was a member of the American Legion Post in Fife Lake.
      Mercedes was a poet and advocate of the "North Woods." She was a columnist for the Wayne Dispatch, where her poetry was published weekly under the column name "Nothing Personal" by "Anonymous." The National Library of Poetry published her award-winning poem, "Pool of Time." Her book, "Winds of Time," was published in 1995.
      "I was a child of the northern wilds with never a plumbers care...
      My grandfather was a dutchman bold; my grandmother was a Baer...
      Where the winds blow free through the great pine trees
      And the northern breezes blow,
      Where the wilds can tame both men and game,
      This is the land I know."
      A memorial service is planned for late May in Fife Lake.
