DUNCAN ALLEN ANGER, 52, of Coldsprings Township, Kalkaska County, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Coldsprings Township Cemetery.
      The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona.
     
      Graveside services with military honors for WILLIAM J. EGGLI, who passed away Feb. 18, 2002, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Oakwood Cemetery.
      Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family.
     
      ROBERT DALE FOX, 83, formerly of Manistee and Lansing, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at the Clark Retirement Home in Grand Rapids.
      A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
      The Oak Grove Cremation Center is in charge of funeral arrangements.
     
      JOSEPH A. HARRAND, 85, formerly of Hannah, died April 18, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington.
      A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 22, at St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington with the Rev. Ken Schichtel as celebrant. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.

      BENZONIA - Clyde J. (Jack) Roach, 76, of Benzonia, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2002, at home.
      Clyde was the owner and operator of the Traverse City Union 76 Oil Distributorship for 20 years.
      His wife, Ruth, along with sons, Tom (Beth) and Scott (Westi), four grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
      Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held.
      The family is being served by the Oak Grove Cremation Center.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Dolores E. "Dee" DeClarke, 80, of Traverse City, surrounded by her loving family, died Friday evening, May 3, 2002, at home. She fought a short and courageous battle with cancer.
      Dolores was born March 23, 1922, in Detroit, to the late John and Elizabeth Hughes.
      She was a licensed cosmetologist for 63 years, and owned her own shop in Traverse City for 27 years. Dolores was also a member of the National Cosmetology Association. For a number of years, Dolores operated a Wig Bank, providing wigs to those who had lost their hair due to cancer.
      She was a talented artist and a charter founder of the Farmington Artist Club. She loved to play the banjo and root for the Detroit Tigers. Dolores and her husband, Russell, were parishioners of the Ave` Maria Catholic Traditionalist Church in Westbury, Long Island, N.Y.
      Dolores is survived by her husband, Russell of Traverse City; her daughter, Joan (Wayne) Sterenberg of Traverse City; her son, Charles, and daughter-in-law, Janet (Ansorge) DeClarke of Holt; and two grandchildren, Charles and Michael DeClarke.
      Along with her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her sister, Maria Rhinehart.
      Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
      A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Bohemian Cemetery on Neah-Ta-Wanta Rd, on Old Mission Peninsula, with the Rev. Father Patrick Barrett officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society.

      CHICAGO - Cherie' Ann Valentine, age 45, beloved daughter of the late Carmella (Leo) and Nello Valentine Sr., died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.
      Cherie' was born on November 24, 1956, and grew up in Chicago, graduating from Morton East High School in 1974. She attended the University of Illinois, Chicago campus, where she graduated in 1978, earning a bachelor's degree in marketing. After graduation, she worked for many years at the Chicago Board of Trade. Most recently she was self-employed as a bond trader working from her home.
      She enjoyed many travels to Europe, Turkey, Guatemala, Costa Rica and locations throughout the United States. One of her most memorable trips was to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, where she was maid-of-honor in her sister's wedding in August 2000. She lived her adult life in the city of Chicago, in many unique homes near the Lake Michigan shoreline and in the heart of the city, always sharing her life and home with many feline friends. She was a member of the Lincoln Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, where she leaves behind many kind friends.
      Cherie' is survived by her loving sisters, Marietta (Howard) Alton of Rogers, Ark., and Va'Nessa (Art) Valentine-Nixon of Rockwall, Texas, and her devoted brother, Nello (Sue Bullock) Valentine Jr. of Cedar; dear sister-in-law, Margaret Patchin of Traverse City; cherished nephews, Nello (Geri) Valentine III of Cedar and Rifino Valentine of New York City; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
      A memorial service was held in Chicago.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Thomas L. "Bud" Moore, 69, of Traverse City, died April 27, 2002.
      Tom was born April 25, 1933, in Beech Creek, Ky., the son of Robert M. and Mildred (Wyatt) Moore. He graduated from Pontiac High School in 1951, received his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in 1955, and his law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1958. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
      Tom will be remembered for his intense, warm and generous personality. He had a remarkable gift for forming true friendships throughout his life. He was always ready with trusted advice and solid principles to help his family and friends through many situations.
      Through the loving support of family and his own efforts, Tom achieved success in business and established his own law firm in Houston, Texas. He was a loyal supporter and benefactor of his alma mater, Central Michigan University.
      Tom loved two places above all others - Long Lake in Michigan, relaxing and visiting with friends, and his family ranch in Pauls Valley, Okla.
      Tom's family will always remember his love and devotion to them, his new granddaughter and his friends.
      He is survived by his wife, Betty Blanton Moore, his son, Christopher Moore and wife, Karen Chakmakian, of Palo Alto, Calif., his daughter, Jennifer Farnell and husband, Michael Farnell, and granddaughter, Alexandra, of Dallas, Texas, as well as many close and loyal friends.
      A celebration of Tom's life will be held in Traverse City on May 25.
      The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Long Lake Fund, directed to the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, 250 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
     
      SUTTONS BAY - Esther Blanche Putnam, 77, of Suttons Bay, passed away Friday, May 3, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      Esther was born March 12, 1925, in Traverse City, to the late Frank and Blanche (Morris) Skelly. On Oct. 15, 1943, she married Rennie L. Putnam at First Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay.
      She was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay. She enjoyed walking, doing cross stitching and reading. Esther loved visiting with her friends and neighbors, and was herself a gracious hostess, entertaining her family and friends.
      Esther is survived by her children, Frederick R. (Leah) Putnam of Redford Township, Mildred (Jed) Connell of Tooele, Utah, and Doris (Robert) Gilbert of Traverse City; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Vida (Ed) Kehl of Northport.
      She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Fugate; her brothers, Robert and Donald Skelly; and her sister, Virginia Peterson.
      A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at First Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay, with the Rev. Ronald Pederson officiating. Interment will immediately follow the luncheon in Hillcrest Cemetery, Omena.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to First Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Francis E. "Pug" Brakel, 87, a life long resident of the Traverse City area, passed away, Thursday, May 2, 2002.
      Pug was born on the family's farm near Chum's Corner on July 17, 1914, the son of the late Frank and Mae (Blem) Brakel. As a youth, Pug was active in Future Farmers of America. He attended the local schools and graduated from Central High in 1932. On Sept. 12, 1945, he married Elaine E. (Sporre) Carroll in Traverse City.
      He was an active member of the Michigan Farm Bureau. A member of Emmanuel Methodist Church since his youth, Pug was active in church affairs and enjoyed holding several offices over the years. Pug was a lifelong dairy farmer. For the 10 years prior to his retirement, he worked for the C & O Railroad. Pug and Elaine enjoyed traveling, fishing, and playing cards. They moved to Duck Lake and spent 28 years there, a place they both loved.
      Pug is survived by his wife, Elaine of Traverse City; a son, Bruce of Traverse City, a daughter, Faith (Gary) Waters of Minneapolis, and a stepson, Roger (Linda) Carroll of Eaton Rapids; a sister, Carmen Rothermel of Traverse City, and a brother, William (Evelyn) Brakel of Holland; a granddaughter, Sarah Waters, a grandson, Brent Brakel, two stepgrandchildren, Amy (Carroll) Guffey and Jodi (Carroll) Raccuia, and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
      Along with his parents, Pug was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth and his brother, Tracy.
      Pursuant to Pug's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends Monday, May 6, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 9th and Wadsworth. A Celebration of Life Service will follow visitation at the church at 11 a.m.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Emmanuel United Methodist Church or to the American Stroke Association.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
