MCCARTHY, 74, of Alden, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at home. Arrangements are pending, at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. KEVIN TAYLOR, 43, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Manistee, died suddenly at home Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Cremation Center in Manistee. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family is being served by the Oak Grove Cremation Center. DENVILLE, N.J. - Marie Rose Backus, 95, of Denville, N.J., and formerly of Thompsonville, died Nov. 3, 2002, at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, N.J. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, V. Dean Backus and three children, Margaret Offman, James Backus and Mary Ellen Tulppo. She is survived by five sons, John Backus, Dean Backus, Thomas Backus, David Backus and Robert Backus; three daughters, Deanna Worthington, Martha Meyer and Mary Ann Karinen; 34 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva, with Fr. Michael Conner officiating. The Terwilliger Funeral Home is assisting the family. TRAVERSE CITY - Michal S. Danilowicz, 3-day-old son of Steven T. and Kelly A. (Costigan) Danilowicz, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Munson Medical Center. Also surviving are paternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Danilowicz of Saginaw; maternal grandparents, Ernest and Beverly Costigan of Traverse City; great-grandfather, Beverly Terry of Saginaw; great-grandmother, Mildred Rich of New Jersey; uncle, Kip Costigan of Traverse City; aunt, Paula (Jim) Duby of Saginaw; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Dorothy Terry; great-grandfather, Samuel Rich; and uncle, Michael John Danilowicz. Private family services will be held. The Rev. Fr. James Hayden will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the Neonatal ICU at Munson Medical Center, 1105 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684. PALM CITY, Fla. - Gene Denman, 72, of Palm City, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, Fla. He was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Traverse City. Gene was the founder of Gene's Auto Parts. He was a member of both the Martin Downs Country Club in Florida and the Grand Traverse Resort. He was also a life member of the Elks Club. Gene was an avid golfer and club champion at the Traverse City Country Club and Miles Grant Country Club. He was very active in racing snowmobiles and race cars, and also enjoyed restoring antique cars. Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley Denman of Palm City, Fla.; his four sons, Gene Jr., Clay, Brad and Terry all of Traverse City; his two daughters, Dawn Davis of Sacramento, Calif., and Sally Verdoux of Durand; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Marshall, Jacob, Monica, Randy, Nicolette, Nick, Torey, Rebeka, Karla, and Steve; two great-grandchildren; three half-brothers, Bob, Bill and Jerry Denman; and a half-sister, Joanie Murphy. Memorial services will be held in the spring in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice organization or to your favorite charity. Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City, Fla., is handling funeral arrangements. TRAVERSE CITY - Julia L. Hammond, 72, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Munson Medical Center. Born March 9, 1930, in Muskegon, she was the daughter of Ira W. and Mildred (Randall) Dingman. On Nov. 2, 1946, in Traverse City, Julia married Elmer R. Hammond. She had lived in the Traverse City area as a child, returning in 1990, after living in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Julia had been employed as a cook in a nursing home. She was a member of the Pinegrove Church of God. She loved her flowers and received great enjoyment from her garden. Julia is survived by her husband, Elmer; her daughter, Charyl White and her son, David (Evelyn) Hammond all of Traverse City; brother, Robert Dingman; sister, Doris Fritz; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Richard Dingman. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Pinegrove Church of God, with Pastor Marc Hoard officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. GOOD HARBOR - Evelyn "Eleanora" Kropp, 97, of Good Harbor, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Maple Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Chicago on April 6, 1905, to John Henry and Zena (Steiger) Dechow. Eleanora married Wilbur C. Kropp, in Leland in 1923. She was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Point Oneida Club. Eleanora is survived by three children, Arlene (Robert) Dean of Old Mission, Leonard (Evelyn) Kropp of Traverse City, and Audrey (Charles) Gebow of Denver; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ida Pinfold; her half sister, Eileen Dechow; and her half brother, Donald (Gerry) Dechow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur on Oct. 11, 1983; and her son, Eugene in 1952. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert W. Wurst Jr. officiating.
