LAKE LEELANAU - Della Schaub Maleski, 95, loved the Lord and peacefully went to be with Him, Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. For the past seven years she had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Blaise Korson in Northport.
Born in Lake Leelanau on June 18, 1907, she was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (DuPeron) Belanger. In April of 1925, Della married Lawrence Schaub Jr., who preceded her in death on July 17, 1959. She married John Maleski, in 1964, and he too preceded her in death on April 25, 1975. Della was a lifelong resident of Lake Leelanau and attended St. Mary's Church where she was a member of the alter society, and the St. Mary's Quilters. Due to increasing problems with her vision, she had to resign from the quilting club. She loved flowers, her gardens, and most all, her family.
Della is survived by six children, Jane Mary Rexroat of Lake Leelanau, Milford James (Marie) Schaub of Suttons Bay, Marvin Lawrence (Edith) Schaub of Suttons Bay, Marcella Ann (Larry) Schmer-Kedzie of Corona, Calif., Terrence J. Schaub of Traverse City and Sarah Cecilia (Blaise) Korson of Gills Pier; 26 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jerry, Walter, Reuben, Orson, Clarence and Alfred Belanger; four sisters, Elizabeth LaCross, Jenny Dufek, Lucy Alpers and Marie Schoonbeck; grandson, Terry Schaub; and son-in-law, Avery Rexroat.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 25, at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerry Hunko and the Rev. Rey Garcia serving as celebrants. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's School or Church Building Fund, or to Mass Intentions.
