      Kenneth J. Burke
      Died November 21, 2002
      KALKASKA - Kenneth J. Burke, 81, of Kalkaska and Davenport, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 21, in Davenport.
      He was born in Cadillac on Sept. 27, 1921, the son of John W. and Wendla (Benson) Burke. He married Barbara Mattison on March 15, 1946.
      Mr. Burke graduated from Cadillac High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 as a Master Sergeant, receiving the Medal of Honor for his services in the European Theater.
      He was employed by Cadillac State Bank, later NBD. He retired as president of NBD in Kalkaska in 1983. He led the economic growth of the Kalkaska community, bringing in many new businesses and jobs and enriching people's lives.
      Mr. Burke was a past president of Rotary Club, past president of the Chamber of Commerce and was named "Citizen of the Year" in both Manton and Kalkaska for his commitment to community services. He served as treasurer for the Salvation Army in northern Michigan and led many of the Christmas drives. He also served on the Industrial Development and Economic Development committees for the Kalkaska community.
      Mr. Burke loved spending time with his family, and playing golf and horseshoes. He earned his pilot license and loved to fly.
      He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Michael (Carol) Burke of Danville, Calif.; daughters, Kandace (Ralph) Douglas of Cadillac, Kathy Cook (Jim Thomas) of Kalkaska and Lisa Richards of Chicago; his sister, Agnes Proffitt of Boon; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
      He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Burke and Carl Burke; and sisters, Florence Anderson and Esther Powell.
      Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Cadillac Elks Club.
      In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
     
      ROGER GLENN ASHMORE, 51, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at home.
      Arrangements are pending at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
      THOMAS HENRY DOHERTY, 81, of Cedar, died Monday, Nov. 25 at his home.
      A wake service will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a memorial tribute at 7 p.m.
      A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m.
      A full obituary will appear at a later date.
      RICHARD J. LIJEWSKI, 69, of Manistee, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at West Shore Medical Center.
      Visitation will take place today, Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Evening prayer service will begin at 8 p.m.
      Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

      Delbert L. Wilson
      Died November 24, 2002
      BUCKLEY - Delbert L. Wilson, 54, a lifelong resident of Buckley, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002.
      He was born in Buckley on July 9, 1948, the son of Wayne and Arlene (Haines) Wilson. He married Sandra Hansen in Buckley on July 26, 1969.
      Delbert worked for the State of Michigan for 35 years, retiring in August 2002. He also drove a school bus for Buckley Community Schools special education students.
      He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Yagel Brothers Detachment of the Marine Corps League and the VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
      Delbert served as a lieutenant on the Buckley Volunteer Fire Department from 1977 to 1994 and was a member of the Wexford County Fire Investigation Team. He also volunteered at the Buckley Old Engine Show, and was always willing to drive the school bus for Buckley Community Schools sporting events.
      Delbert enjoyed spending time with his family, weekends at the cabin, golfing, bowling, hunting and camping.
      He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Buckley; two sons, Mark (Cherie) Wilson of Traverse City and Terry Wilson of Buckley; two brothers, Edwin (Brenda) Wilson of Traverse City and Robert (Mary) Wilson of Buckley; three sisters, Lynda (John) Mannor of Mesick, Cathy (Willie) Neumann of Buckley and Sharon (Brian) Vincent of Buckley; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents.
      Visitation will take place today, Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Buckley Community School gymnasium, with Rev. Thomas Shelder officiating. Interment will be in Grant Township Cemetery, with military honors under the auspices of the VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckley Volunteer Fire Department.
      **FLAG** John 'Jack' H. Leach
      Died November 21, 2002
      TRAVERSE CITY - John "Jack" H. Leach, 70, of Traverse City, entered into eternal peace with his Lord on Thursday evening, Nov. 21, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      He was born Dec. 26, 1931, in Sault Ste. Marie. Jack served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After his discharge from the Air Force, he was employed with the Corps of Engineers at the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie from 1956 to 1969. On Feb. 2, 1957, Jack joined hands in marriage with Edna M. Corpe in Sault Ste. Marie. He worked as a warehouse supervisor for the Traverse City Public School System from 1969 until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all his loving family.
      Jack is survived by his wife of 45 years, Edna; twin daughters, Janet P. (Dan) Missad of Portage, and Janice P. (Randy) Martin of Traverse City, son, Randall K. (Sue) Leach of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron) Bohrer and John William Leach; and two great-grandsons, Josh and Carter Bohrer.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy (Delaney) Leach; his sister, Eunice Kirby and his brother, William Leach.
      A private graveside memorial service is being planned for the spring of 2003, at the Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie.
      Ross Funeral Home of Pickford assisted his family with the arrangements.
