RICHARD F. JONES, 77, of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Frankfort and Corunna, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Lutheran Heart Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Burial will take place in Crystal Lake Cemetery at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 29, 2002. Arrangements by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. ELSIE MCCARRY, 93, of Interlochen, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at The Maples in Frankfort. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry. THELMA M. ODIORNE, 75, of Kalkaska, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at her home. Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska. EARL SANKA, 65, of Frankfort, passed away at The Maples Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002. CARL CLIFTON SHOUP III, 49, of Manistee, after one hell of a fight, died Friday evening, Nov. 22, 2002, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A celebration of Carl's life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Wellston Community Center in Wellston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospitality House at Munson Medical Center. Arrangements by the Oak Grove Cremation Center in Manistee. LOUIS TOUSAIN, 79, of Petoskey, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at First Christian Church in Petoskey. Peg passed away Nov. 12, 2002. **FLAG** John 'Jack' H. Leach Died November 21, 2002 TRAVERSE CITY - John "Jack" H. Leach, 70, of Traverse City, entered into eternal peace with his Lord on Thursday evening, Nov. 21, 2002, at Munson Medical Center. He was born Dec. 26, 1931, in Sault Ste. Marie. Jack served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After his discharge from the Air Force, he was employed with the Corps of Engineers at the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie from 1956 to 1969. On Feb. 2, 1957, Jack joined hands in marriage with Edna M. Corpe in Sault Ste. Marie. He worked as a warehouse supervisor for the Traverse City Public School System from 1969 until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all his loving family. Jack is survived by his wife of 45 years, Edna; twin daughters, Janet P. (Dan) Missad of Portage and Janice P. (Randy) Martin of Traverse City; son, Randall K. (Sue) Leach of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron) Bohrer and John William Leach; two great-grandsons, Josh and Carter Bohrer; two sisters, June (Jack) Russell of Lenox and Elda (Lynn) Wittman of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy (Delaney) Leach; his sister, Eunice Kirby, and his brother, William Leach. A private graveside memorial service is being planned for the spring of 2003, at the Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie. Ross Funeral Home of Pickford assisted his family with the arrangements. Michael Clark Deemer Died November 26, 2002 INTERLOCHEN - Michael Clark Deemer, 45, of Interlochen, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at The Maples in Frankfort following a long illness. He was born Nov. 2, 1957, in Frankfort, to Bernard and Norma (Johnson) Deemer. Michael attended Benzie Central High School, graduating in 1975. Michael married Barbara Joyce Hall in 1980, at the Long Lake Friends Church in Traverse City. Together, Michael and Barbara owned and operated Deemer's Wood Products making wood pallets for 20 years. His favorite hobby was rebuilding and restoring antique cars, including the 1973 Mustang Mach I he owned. Michael is survived by his wife, Barbara of Interlochen; four children, Erin, Erik, Emilee and Evan; two grandchildren, Alex and Jaren all living at home; his parents Bernard and Norma Deemer; his brother, Ben Deemer; and his sister, Pat (Ken) Culp of Reed City. According to his wishes, donations for medical research have been made and cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Woodside Wesleyan Church in Lake Ann, with the Rev. Neil Mowat officiating. The family will be available at the church to meet with friends from noon until the time of the services Saturday. The family requests that all memorial contributions be directed to Michael's children. The family is being served by the Oak Grove Cremation Center in Manistee. **PHOTO** Mildred M. Cook Died November 25, 2002 TRAVERSE CITY - Mildred M. Cook, 94, of Traverse City, died Monday at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born Jan. 28, 1908, in Buckley, she was the daughter of True and Mary Jane "Jenny" (McCleary) Harrington. Mildred had been a resident of the area most of her life, having lived in Manton, Manistee, Cadillac, Mt. Pleasant and Walton Junction. She was a member of First Church of Christ and the ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). Mildred loved spending time with all children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include Mildred's daughter, Verna J. Cook of Traverse City; her sons, Owen Dale (Sue Ann) Cook of Traverse City, and Gerald (Sue Ellen) Cook of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; brothers, Warren (Doris) Harrington of Traverse City, Charles (Jessie) Harrington of Kalkaska; sister, Hilda (Victor) Garvin of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernard A. Cook; sisters, Edna, Ruth, Helen, Inez and Dorothy; and brothers, Arthur and Richard. Friends may call Friday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. George Stehle officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Traverse Pavilions. **PHOTO** **FLAG** Roger Glenn Ashmore Died November 24, 2002 TRAVERSE CITY - Roger Glenn Ashmore, 51, of Traverse City, died suddenly Sunday evening at his home, with his wife by his side. Born June 24, 1951, in Traverse City, he was the son of Raymond C. and Velma L. (Orcutt) Ashmore. On Dec. 31, 1982, in Traverse City, Roger married the former Joyce E. Mashka. A veteran with the U.S. Navy, Roger served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Deal-Ridge Post, in Williamsburg. He was a longtime employee of the Lear Corporation, working in maintenance and production set-up. Roger is survived by his parents, Raymond and Velma Ashmore of Williamsburg; his wife of 19 devoted years, Joyce E. Ashmore of Traverse City; sons, Andrew Miller of Suttons Bay, and Dennis Miller of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Austin and Carson; his sister, Nola (John) Burger of Ridge Spring, S.C.; his two brothers, Earl "Dodie" (Ingrid) Ashmore of Williamsburg, and Paul (Mary) Ashmore of Kingsley; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and will continue Thursday, Nov. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, with the Rev. Dr. Homer Nye and the Rev. James Gardiner officiating. Following the service, Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of Cherryland VFW Post 2780. Cremation will follow the service. In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association. |
