ESTERO, Fla. - Danny Lee Spaulding, 61, of Estero, Fla., died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002.
      He was born in Saginaw and had been employed by Alken-Ziegler in Kalkaska until his retirement in 1997. Upon retirement he and his wife Carole moved to Estero, Fla. Danny was most recently employed by Sunshine ACE Hardware in Bonita Springs, Fla.
      Danny was a member of the Bonita Elks Lodge and the Bonita Moose Lodge #1454.
      Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Carole Lynn Spaulding of Estero; his sons, Todd Spaulding of Traverse City and Patrick Spaulding and his fiancé, Tracey of Grand Rapids; his daughters, Leslie (Jim) Coerper of East Grand Rapids and Lisa (Mike) May of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren, Shea, Harry, Madison, Sophia, Grace, Ian, Justin and Josh; and his sister-in-law, Mary Fries of Saginaw.
      Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Obrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, (616) 949-7350.
      A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 750 Gladstone SE, East Grand Rapids, (616) 243-8998.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Barbara Jean Schwartz, 70, of Traverse City and formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at her home.
      She was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Detroit, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Bounds) Gordon. She married Kenneth John "Jack" Schwartz on Oct. 18, 1952, in St. Clair Shores.
      Barbara had been employed as a secretary at Lakeview Public Schools. She and Jack moved to Traverse City in 1983. She was employed as a secretary by Traverse City Light and Power until her retirement. Barbara was a member of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church. In Traverse City she did volunteer work for RSVP. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and working in her garden. She was a member of the Bowen-Holliday American Legion Post 35 Ladies Auxiliary.
      Barbara was a beautiful and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother as well as a wonderful friend and neighbor. She was a positive influence on the lives of many young people as well as a good friend to many in Traverse City and St. Clair Shores.
      Barbara is survived by her husband, Jack; her daughters, Jeannine (Michael) Woelkers of Bellingham, Wash., Sheri (Scott) Carver of Lake Orion; and her grandchildren, Hillory and Sarah Woelkers and Nicholas and Neal Carver. Also surviving is her uncle, Sidney Bounds of Arizona and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
      She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Gerald Gordon.
      Cremation has taken place and there are no memorial services planned.
      In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to The Hospice House project, c/o Munson Hospice, 1105 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
      KINGSLEY - Margaret Karoline Provenzola, 83, of Kingsley, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002.
      She was born in Calumet on Jan. 27, 1919, to Norman and Amanda (Rouhonen) Saatio. In 1941, she married Anthony Provenzola.
      Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family and made especially good apple pie. She also liked working in her rock gardens and doing the yardwork. Her hobbies also included crafts and collecting.
      Margaret is survived by her husband, Anthony; son, James (Melba) Provenzola of Fife Lake, and two daughters, Marty Walbridge of Canfield, Ohio and Mary (Roger) Palmer of Seattle; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and two sisters.
      She was preceded in death by her parents.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, with the Rev. Lou Grettenberger officiating at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services Tuesday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
     
      GRAND RAPIDS - Mrs. Elaine Mary Gallagher, 72, of Grand Rapids, and summer resident of Irons, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
      She was born May 22, 1930, in Freesoil to Victor and Lillian (Sandquist) Wahr. Elaine was very talented in music and theatre. She graduated from Norman-Dickson High School in 1948, where she performed in many school theatrical presentations with James Earl Jones. She also appeared in productions at the Ramsdell Theatre in Manistee. Music was very important to Elaine. She played piano all her life and performed as a singer at many clubs throughout the Manistee area. After high school, she met Donald P.J. Gallagher at the Loon Lake Pavilion Roller Rink in Irons, where the two skated nightly, putting on quite a show for everyone. They married on July 5, 1952, in Irons, and after Donald served his country during the Korean War, the couple raised their three children in the Irons area.
      Elaine was quite active in local politics and served as the Sauble Township clerk for many years. She worked as a telephone supervisor for Michigan Bell in Ludington for many years also. Following their move to Grand Rapids, Elaine worked her favorite job as the "Cheese Lady" for the Hickory Farms store at North Kent Mall. She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Irons where she taught catechism for many years, and was also a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church in Grand Rapids.
      Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dianna Gallagher of Grand Rapids, and her son, James Gallagher of Traverse City; her brother, Mickey Wahr of Kaleva; and many other relatives and friends.
      She was preceded in death by her oldest child, Donald Victor in 1986, and her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Donald Patrick Joseph on April 4, 2000.
      Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stephens Funeral Chapel in Scottville, where the rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.
      The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct., 8, at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Irons, with the Rev. Dennis O'Donnell and Monsignor Walter Jude serving as concelebrants. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Irons.
      Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, or to the American Red Cross.

      JAMES D. BOVEN, 88, of Lake City, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.
      Visitation will be held at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Falmouth Reformed Church in Falmouth.
      Arrangements by the Young Funeral Home in Lake City.
     
      LILLIAN M. HENDERSHOTT, 72, of Beulah, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Friends may call at the time of the services. Burial will be in Inland Township Cemetery.
     
      CHARLOTTE KINNEY, 83, of Rapid City, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at her home.
      Visitation will be held at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, with a rosary prayed at 7 p.m. Monday.
      Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, with the Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski serving as celebrant.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      DANIELLE S. OLMSTEAD, 62, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      A memorial service for GERALD L. ROCKWELL, who passed away Sept. 1, 2002, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Benzonia Congregational Church.
      Friends and family are invited for refreshments at the church following the service.
