GILBERT FRANCIS BARNARD, 91, of Benzonia, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at The Maples - Benzie County Medical Care Facility in Frankfort. Cremation will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. 'TED' DEWEY, 90, of Rapid City, died late Friday evening, Oct. 11, 2002, at home. There will be no visitation. MARCELLINA HEUREUX, 85, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Munson Medical Center. Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at St. Francis Catholic Church where visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. TRAVERSE CITY - Robert Martin Donohoe, 59, of Traverse City died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Munson Medical Center. Robert was born the son of Herbert and Florence (Johnson) Donohoe on April 9, 1943, in London, Ohio. He later married Whelma Sario, in Chicago, on Sept. 1, 1972. Robert spent many years serving his country in the military. He served with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. When Robert wasn't working he could be found outdoors hunting, fishing, boating, gardening or attending an auction. Robert is survived by his wife of 30 years, Whelma; four children, Glenn (Suzanne) Donohoe of Traverse City, Deanna (Eytan) Rodin of Chesterfield, Mo., Yvonne Donohoe and friend Shawn McCool of Rapid City, and Cheryl Donohoe and friend Eric Mueller of Canton; sisters Dorothy (Richard) Mitchell of Sedalia, Ohio, Barbara Fout of Remington, Ind., William (Donna) Donohoe of Selma, Ala.; grandchildren Katie Donohoe, Jacob Keagy, Robert Donohoe, Peter Donohoe and Aaron Rodin; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Florence. Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City, with the Rev. Brad Will officiating. Visitation will be today from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Paint Township. Cemetery, in Ohio. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy. LAKE ANN - James Frederick Skory, 77, of Lake Ann passed away Friday at Munson Medical Center. Jim was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Grand Rapids, the son of Anna (Klukoski) and John Skory. A veteran of World War II, Jim served with the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific. On June 25, 1966, in LeSueur, Minn., he married the former Ann E. Hiniker. Prior to his retirement, Jim was in management at Honeywell-Minneapolis in California working in the aerospace and computer divisions. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed golf and fishing. He and his wife, Ann, divided their retirement years between their home in Lake Ann and their home in Bradenton, Fla. Jim is survived by his wife, Ann; by a sister-in-law, Eleanor Skory of Traverse City; and by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Louise Hiniker of St. Paul, Minn., and Richard and Elizabeth Hiniker of White Bear Lake, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Robert Skory. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Patrick Catholic Church , Traverse City, with the Rev. Father Gerald Micketti serving as celebrant. A gathering for friends and family will take place at the church on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. and will continue until the time of the Mass. NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - Stephen Joseph Myers, 37, of Nashville, Tenn., died unexpectedly in Kahului, Hawaii on Sept. 13, 2002. Born June 3, 1965, in Detroit, he was the son of Stephen James and Mary C. (Anderson) Myers. At the time of his death, he was self- employed and was in the process of establishing his own diving business. He was previously employed by Health Management Systems as vice president and senior product analyst. He graduated from Plainwell High School in Plainwell in 1983, and from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1987, with an engineering degree. Stephen's enthusiasm for life and his caring spirit will be dearly missed by many family, friends and associates in Nashville, Chicago, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. Survivors include his mother, Mary C. Myers of Traverse City; his father, Stephen James Myers of Gastonia, N.C.; his brothers, Ivan N. Myers of Traverse City and Eric D. (Julie) Myers of Jenison; his paternal grandmother, Dolores Myers of Decatur, Ind.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Stephen was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, L. Dale Myers; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Josephine Irvin Anderson; and infant brother, Kevin M. Myers. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon on Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. INTERLOCHEN - Esther Mae (Deemer) Miller, 91, died Friday evening, Oct. 11, 2002, at her home. She was born Nov. 1, 1910, in Bippus, Ind., the first daughter of A.V. Deemer and Laura H. (Metzler) Deemer. Her early years were spent in Indiana. After graduating from Central Michigan University, she taught school for 10 years in the Traverse City area. In 1939, she met Elwyn O. Miller of Kaleva. They were married June 30, 1940. In 1952, the family moved to Portage where Mae taught music in the Portage Public Schools for 25 years. The family moved to their current home near Lake Ann in 1989. Mae was active in her church with the music program, teaching Sunday School, and was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was also a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Principals and the Kalamazoo Area Retired School Personnel. Mae is survived by her husband of 62 years, Elwyn O. Miller; four children, Ruth Marie (Roy) Kepo'o of Pearl City, Hawaii, Robert Elwyn (Jackie) Miller of Adrian, Richard Norman (Linda) Miller of Mattawan and Mary Esther Miller of Ludington; a daughter-in-law, Joan Miller of Tecumseh; a sister, Ruth Holcolm of Big Rapids; her grandchildren, Troy, Tim (Maye), Tina and Tony Kepo'o, all of Pearl City, Hawaii, Karen and Erica Miller, Tammy (Paul) Ledford of Grand Rapids, Scott (Suzy) Miller of Kalamazoo and David (Michelle) Miller of Coldwater; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Amy Mead. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at the Faith Reformed Church, 1139 E. Front St. in Traverse City, with the Rev. Philip Noordman officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. WILLIAMSBURG - Joseph P. Martell, 50, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002. He was born Dec. 26, 1951, in Wareham, Mass., the son of James and Margaret (Mannix) Martell. Joe married Karen Schlottenmeier on Feb. 14, 1971, in Cape May, N.J. Joe spent his adult life serving his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, Search and Rescue, and retired with the rank of chief. Joe was a great husband and dad, and loved being a grandpa. He was very proud of his family. He was always capable of making his family and friends laugh. Joe was a former scout master for the Boy Scouts of America, and enjoyed boating, aviation, camping, worldwide travel, hockey, music and had a great love of nature. Joe is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Karen Martell; three children, Angel (Tim) Kelley, Melanie Martell and Matt (Cari) Martell; and five grandchildren, Diana, Jacquie and Keri Kelley, Kayla (daughter of Melanie) and Mason Martell (son of Matt and Cari). He was preceded in death by his father, James Martell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon at Old Mission Lighthouse on Old Mission Peninsula on Saturday, Oct. 19 (weather permitting) or on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002. MANCELONA - Margaret "Eleanor" Holstad, 86, a longtime resident of Mancelona, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. The Rev. Kathy Steen of the Mancelona United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona. Eleanor was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Mancelona, the daughter of Arlington J. "Earl" and Faith (Gurd) Robb. She graduated from Mancelona High School in 1932, and then received her teaching certificate from County Normal in 1934. Eleanor taught at a local country school. On April 12, 1935, she married Clarence I Holstad in Mancelona. Although a longtime resident of Antrim County, Eleanor had also lived some time in Gaylord. In Mancelona, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school classes for many years. Eleanor also enjoyed painting and reading. Eleanor is survived by two sons, John (Elorise) Holstad of Hudsonville and Richard (Mary) Holstad of Spring Hill; five grandchildren, Greg (Hope) Holstad of Jenison, Jeffery (Stephanie) Holstad of Livonia, Heidi Holstad of Grand Rapids, Brad (Lisa) Holstad of Eaton Rapids and Jill (Pierre) Guertz of Seattle, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Marybeth) Robb of Commerce and Bill (Joan) Robb of Redford Township; two sisters, Mavis Johnson of Grawn and Helen (Larry) Barnard of Kalkaska; as well as several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Holstad on Sept. 2, 1994; her parents; one brother, Robert Robb; and two sisters, Dorothy Hardy and Ruth Justian. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. Memorial contributions may be made to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. |
