JOE DEACON, 95, of Frankfort, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, 2002, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. The Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes, is handling private family services. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City. Services for KATHLEEN MYER, who died Oct. 15, 2002, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. BEAR LAKE - Agnes Carleton Lieb, 96, of Manistee and formerly of Bear Lake, Lakeland, Fla. and Onekama, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Tendercare of Manistee. Prior to residing at Tendercare, Agnes had lived at Memorial Heritage Foster Home in Onekama for five years. She was born in Bear Lake in 1906 to Clifford and Lucy (Mapes) Carleton. Agnes inherited land on the south shore of Bear Lake and her father and her husband, Harry Lieb, built a log cabin home there. Agnes and Harry lived in Lakeland, Fla., from 1941 until Harry's death in 1982. Agnes worked as a licensed practical nurse there and continued to live in Florida until 1996. She spent many summers at the cabin on the "Carleton Hill." It was at the cabin where Agnes loved spending time with her children and her late sister, Lucille Morency, who also had a cabin on "Carleton Hill." These two "Grande Dames" gave cousins and guests a sense of family and fun over the years on the lake. Agnes is survived by her two children, Richard, who resides on the family property in Bear Lake, and Patsy Bevis, who lives in Punta Gorda, Fla., and has a summer home on the Carleton land. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Alice Campbell of Lodi, Calif., David Lieb of Lodi, Calif., Susie Hammon of Sun City, Ariz., Richard Bevis of Winston-Salem, N.C., Julie Kariher of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., David Bevis of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Tim Bevis of Spartanburg, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, Bryan Campbell, Scott Campbell, Todd Campbell, Kristin Lieb, Gary Lieb, Morgan Bevis, Caroline Bevis and Cole Kariher; and two great-great-grandchildren, Olivia June Campbell and Kaitlyn Campbell. Graveside services will be held in Bear Lake in the summer of 2003. Edwards Oak Grove Funeral Home in Bear Lake is handling the arrangements. TRAVERSE CITY - Janet Elenbaas, 92, died Tuesday in Traverse City. Born Oct. 19, 1910, in Highland Township, she was the daughter of John A. and Hannah (Hesselink) Lucas. On June 11, 1932, at home in Highland Township, she married Gerrit Elenbaas, who preceded her in death on May 15, 1980. Formerly of Lucas, Janet had been a resident of Traverse City since 1955. She also had been a member of Faith Reformed Church since the early 1950s. Survivors include her children, Donna (David) Thompson of Hudsonville and Duane (Joanne) Elenbaas of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Lyda Elenbaas of Joplin, Mo., and Edna Shoobridge of Lucas; and brother, Adrian Lucas of Highland Township; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special friend, Alfred Mayer; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Jay Lucas. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City today from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas on Friday at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Warren Burgess will be officiating. Burial will be in Lucas Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the hospice program of your choice. |
