September 15, 2002ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Jacqueline Rae "Jackie" Heimforth, 76, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002.She was born in Van Nuys, Calif. on Dec. 29, 1925, to Paul and Flossie Thompson. On Feb. 25, 1949, Jackie wed Donald Heimforth in Traverse City at the Central United Methodist Church. Jackie was a homemaker who enjoyed painting and wallpapering her home, canning and freezing vegetables from her garden and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very family-oriented and caring person. Her great sense of humor and willingness to help in any situation will make her absence deeply felt in the lives of her family and friends. Jackie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald Heimforth, and their children, Steve (Karen) Heimforth, Donna Dietz and Darlene (Dennis) Buchner, all of Traverse City; grandchildren, Jeff (Kelly) Heimforth, Aaron (Harmony) Weathers, Andy Buchner and Eric Buchner, all of Traverse City, and Don Weathers of Las Vegas; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Jonathan and Jared Heimforth, and Abby Weathers, all of Traverse City; her sister, Darlene Ostrom of Napa, Calif.; her nieces, Judy Lundeen and Susan Morrison, both of Napa, Calif., and her nephew, Gary Stein of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Flossie Thompson; her brother, Paul Thompson; her son, Donald Heimforth Jr.; and her granddaughter, Jackie Weathers. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Central United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tamara Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. FRANKFORT - Violet M. Reichel, 81, of Frankfort, died Friday morning at The Maples. Vi was born on May 27, 1921, in Blaine Township, the daughter of Darius and Minnie (Johnson) Lambert. She graduated from Elberta High School in 1940 as the valedictorian and president of her class and then attended Ferris State College where she received her associate's degree in accounting. During World War II, Vi served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1945. On Dec. 18, 1945, Violet married Paul E. Reichel in Frankfort where they enjoyed 46 years of loving marriage. Paul preceded her in death on July 24, 1992. She retired in 1983 as the assistant administrator of The Maples, where she began working in 1969. Prior to her time at The Maples she was employed at Pet Inc. in Frankfort and by the Ann Arbor Railroad in secretarial positions. Vi was a founding member and first treasurer of the Frankfort Community Credit Union. She served for eight years as a member of the Frankfort Board of Education from 1966 to 1974. She was a member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church, Entre Nous Study Club, a proud member of the "21 Club" and was a member and secretary of the former Mt. Olive Chapter #347 OES. Following her retirement, Vi looked forward to gardening and spending more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vi was a very supportive grandmother and fan, following her grandchildren's school and sporting events. Even though she will be greatly missed by her family, she is once again with her beloved husband, Paul, whom she loved and missed very much. Violet was a very loving and compassionate person, and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all others that knew her. Vi is survived by her children, Paul (Dianna), Roger (Cheryl) and Mary Jean Wells (Doug Wilkins), all of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Justin, Stephanie, Jason, Derek, Tom, Lindsey; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brienne and Raegen. Vi is also survived by her brothers, Irvin (Marie) Lambert of Florida, Henry (Eva) Lambert of Midland, her sister, Irene Goldbeck of Elberta, sisters-in-law, Eva Lambert of Manistee, and Betty Lambert of Kaleva, and her brother-in-law, Larry Warner of Mt. Morris. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Emma Elton and Evelyn Warner, and brothers Raymond, Russell, Floyd, Edward and Harry. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at 1 p.m. from the Frankfort United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Greg Culver officiating. Private interment services will be held at Crystal Lake Township Cemetery North. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Maples. The family is being served by the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes. CINCINNATI - Graham P. Hunt Jr., of Cincinnati and Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002. He was a veteran of World War II. Graham was the beloved brother of Margaret H. Stewart, and the late Frances H. Stilwell, and Grace Mendenhall Hunt. He was the dear uncle of Bill Stilwell, Frances Stilwell, Katie Kern, Mogie Harrison, and Grace Stearns; and is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews, and three great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peninsula Township Fire Department and Life Squad, 14247 Center Rd., Traverse City, MI 49686. Schaefer & Busby Funeral Home is in charge of the Cincinnati arrangements, (513) 241-0932. TRAVERSE CITY - Harvey Richard Coates, 74, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2002. He was born in Petoskey on Feb. 4, 1928, the son of Joseph and Elmira (Schell) Coates. Harvey wed the former Maxine Glazier in Traverse City on April 26, 1952. Harvey had been employed as a lineman for 44 years prior to his retirement from Consumers Power Company. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping, and also liked doing his yardwork and flower gardening. Harvey was a previous member of the Walton Junction Sportsman's Club in Fife Lake. He also liked spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Harvey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maxine; his sons, Larry Coates and Terry (Kimberly Dante) Coates, all of Traverse City; and his grandchildren, Carley Coates and Devin Dante. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Douglas Coates; his brothers, Elwood and Dan Coates, and his sister, Donna Wickham. Private family services will be held at a later date. "GIB" REID SR., 82, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at his home. Service arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. |
