Obituaries

WILLIAMSBURG - Mitchell "Mitch" Sinko, 81, a resident of Williamsburg since 1977, passed away at his home Friday, Sept. 27, 2002.
      He was born in Johnstown, Pa. on April 16, 1921, to John and Mary (Gallas) Sinko. Mitch was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. On March 27, 1949, he married the former Alice M. Stites in Williamsburg.
      Mitch retired as store manager from Gambles Store in 1978, after 32 years of service. He was always very active in veterans organizations and was a life member of DAV, the Williamsburg VFW and the Williamsburg American Legion. Mitch was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed sports and gardening.
      Mitch is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Sinko of Williamsburg; four daughters, Judy E. Eckert of Stanton, Christine J. (Kim) Hamlin of Farwell, Michelle J. (Douglas) White of Williamsburg, and Cheryl L. (Francis) Deal of Englewood, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Heather K. (Dave) Fisher, Suzann M. White, Lindsey J. White, Allison S. Deal, Troy M. Eckert, Cody J. Eckert, Matthew E. Hamlin and Michael D. White; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, James, Stanley and Robert Sinko; two sisters, Helen Warmus and Wanda Kirkby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leo, Walter, Edward and Joseph Sinko; and three sisters, Frances Komperda, Stella Sinko, and Bernice Sinko.
      Visitation will be held at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where friends may call from noon until the time of the services. The Rev. Doug Pederson will be officiating. Immediately following, graveside services with full military honors under the auspices of the Cherryland VFW Post No. 2780 will take place at the Williamsburg Cemetery prior to interment.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsburg United Methodist Church or to a veterans organization of your choice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Bruce Gregory Olson, 55, died peacefully Saturday at his home following a short battle with cancer.
      Bruce was born Dec. 13, 1946, in Manistee, the son of Richard W. and Gwendolyn J. (Smith) Olson and moved to Traverse City with his family in 1955.
      A 1965 graduate of Traverse City Senior High School, Bruce earned his degree from Michigan State University, graduating in 1969. He then became associated with the family business, Brown Lumber and Supply, having a 30-year career with the company. Bruce was a member of the Rotary Club of Traverse City and was very involved with The National Cherry Festival, serving as a director, president, trustee and chairman of the trustees. He was a volunteer and past president of the Grand Traverse Area United Way, served as a director and was a past president of the Michigan Lumber Dealers, was a member of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and was a member and the treasurer of Eagles Aerie 323 of Traverse City. Bruce had a love for and was a patron of the Interlochen Center for the Arts. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends over a meal at Round's.
      Bruce is survived by his children, Martin B. Olson of Traverse City, and Michelle Olson-Namboothiri of California; his sister, Lani (David) Bathje of Traverse City, and his nephew, Andy Bathje, also of Traverse City.
      Bruce was preceded in death by his mother on Dec. 25, 1985, and by his father on Jan. 8, 2002. Also preceding him in death were his maternal and paternal grandparents.
      In accordance with Bruce's wishes, no services are planned and cremation has taken place.
      Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Munson Hospice, 1105 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684, or to Rotary Charities, 250 E. Front St., Traverse City, MI 49684.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      GLENN H. 'PEE-WEE' ANYS JR., 80, of Traverse City, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, where visitation will be held from noon until the time of services on Friday.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      LILA CHOUINARD LAUTNER, 52, of Williamsburg, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home.
      A full obituary will appear in the Monday edition of the Record-Eagle.
     
      MARION B. WRIGHT, 67, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday Sept. 27, 2002, at her home.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
