NAPLES, Fla. - Michael Allen Price, 56, of Naples, Fla., died Monday, March 31, 2003. Michael had lived in Petoskey before moving to the Florida keys and then to Naples 15 years ago.
      He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army as a parachute rigger for the rangers and receiving the Purple Heart.
      Michael was employed as district sales manager for SYSCO Food Services for over 17 years. He was vice chairman of the Collier County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and also a member of the Florida State Service Council for the American Red Cross.
      Michael is survived by his wife, Noreen; son, Matthew (Nikki) Price, and daughter, Kimberly Price, all of Traverse City; brother, Tom (Pam) Price of Waterford; father-in-law, John Boyle; sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson and her husband, Thomas, and nieces, Jessica and Nora; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Boyle, all of Naples; brother-in-law, John Boyle and his wife, Donna, of Danville, Calif., and two nieces, Lauren and Jenna; and brother-in-law, Eddie Boyle and his wife, Dawn, of Minnetonka, Minn., and niece, Taylor, and nephew, Justin.
      Funeral services were held in Naples on Friday, April 4.
      Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to American Red Cross, 2610 Northbrook Plaza, Naples, FL 34110.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Douglas William Frantz, 85, of Traverse City, died Thursday at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born June 26, 1917, in Ubly, he was the son of William and Elizabeth (Johnston) Frantz. In Des Moines, Iowa, in 1942, he married the former Arlene Anderson, who survives.
      After graduating from Michigan State College, Doug attended Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1943. He returned to Michigan to begin general practice in Detroit. Douglas and Arlene moved with their family to Traverse City in 1951, where he remained a family physician until his retirement in 1982. In addition to his practice in Traverse City, he maintained an office in Cedar during the 1950s.
      Doug was known by many as a compassionate person who cared deeply about his work and his patients. Especially gratifying to him were the many births that he attended. He was a kind and generous man, genuinely interested in people of all backgrounds, and helped many in need.
      Doug's active community involvement included 52 years as a Kiwanis Club member, serving as president in 1962. He played an instrumental role on the Osteopathic Hospital building committee, which established the hospital on Munson Avenue during the early 1960s. After retiring, he served for 15 years as a member of the Grand Traverse County Family Independence Agency Board, and helped to establish the groundwork for Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was a member of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation until his death. Doug was also a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church.
      Doug enjoyed outdoor activities, his card playing and fishing buddies, travel and especially his family.
      In addition to his devoted wife of 60 years, Douglas is also survived by his sons, Douglas (Laura Evans) Frantz Jr. of Brattleboro, Vt., Dennis Frantz of Traverse City and David (Linda) Frantz of Bend, Ore.; his daughter, Donna (Michael) Flynn of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Isaac Evans-Frantz, Emily and Rachel Flynn; his brother, Willis Frantz of Youngstown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
      A memorial service will be held at a later date which will be announced.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Traverse Pavilions or Northwestern Michigan College.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      ELLSWORTH - Luella M. Fales, 77, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
      She was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Earl D. and Viola M. (Gibbs) Brown. She was later adopted and raised by Guy and Mary Watters.
      On Oct. 19, 1946, she married Clarence Fales at Watters Cabin Camp in South Arm Township.
      Luella is survived by her husband, Clarence; children, Sandi Fales of Johannesburg, Richard (Esther) Fales of Ellsworth, Mary Beth (Donald) Everett of Central Lake, Nancy (Mike) McGinley of Central Lake and James (Alice) Fales of Ellsworth; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Bunn of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Jean Hastings, and four brothers, Earl, Donald, Paul LeRoy and Bernard Brown.
      A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 7, at Grace Community Church in Central Lake, with the Rev. Celia M. Hastings officiating.
      Friends may call today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
      Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
     
      INDIANAPOLIS - Jane M. Cole, the widow of Richard Sterling Cole, a prominent Toledo, Ohio, attorney, died on February 20, 2003, in Indianapolis, Ind. She had been a summer resident of the Traverse City area since 1936.
      Mrs. Cole was born Oct. 18, 1910. She attended the University of Michigan. In Toledo she had been chairman of the Office of Volunteers for the American Red Cross and served on the board of the Florence Crittendon Home. She was an active alumna of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was one of the founders as well as a longtime volunteer of the Longboat Key Public Library in Florida.
      Mrs. Cole is survived by three children, Caroline Cramer of Sarasota, Fla.; Sterling Cole, a former Traverse City resident, now of Indianapolis; and R. Scott Cole of Charlotte, N.C.
      Also surviving are five grandchildren: Melissa Cole of Albuquerque, N.M., Peter Stoll of Amherst, Mass.; and Alison Sterling Nichols of Arcata, Calif., longtime Traverse City residents, also Jennifer Tolle Whitesides of Raleigh, N.C. and Elizabeth Tolle Ireland of Southfield, Mich.
      Services were private. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Leelanau Conservancy, Leland, MI.
     
      HONOR - Irene Marion Cripps, 74, of Honor, went to be with the Lord after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, April 4, 2003.
      She was born April 20, 1928, in Nahma, the daughter of Abe and Mary (Feathers) Sebeck.
      Irene was a homemaker and loved raising her children. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling to powwows with the elders.
      In 1945, she married Charles Chester Cripps with the union ending in divorce; however, they remained good friends.
      Irene is survived by seven daughters, Wanda (Richard) Vincent of West Branch, Sandra (Ed) Cripps of Escanaba, Tina (Joel) Toole of Thompsonville, Denise (Ed) Fay of Honor, Mary (Mike) Cripps of Henderson, Brenda Cripps of Escanaba, Cheryl Cripps of Virginia; three sons, Frederick (Vanessa) Cripps of Mesick, Mel Cripps of Escanaba and Abraham Cripps of Traverse City; 38 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Agnes Beaver of Benzonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and William Cripps, her twin children, Mary and Joseph Cripps; three sisters and two brothers; and a grandson, Charles W. Dausey Jr.
      Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes.
      Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m., Monday, April 7, with the Rev. Dan Ingersoll officiating.
      Cremation will take place and interment of ashes will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso.
      Memorial contributions in Irene's memory may be made to the building fund at Eden Hill Bible Church.
     
      ARTHUR V. CARLSON, 79, of Grayling, died Saturday, April 5, 2003.
      Visitation will be Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling, and will continue on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 10, at Grayling Heritage Baptist Church.
      Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Grayling.

      JAMES W. McCARROLL, 87, of Traverse City, died April 1, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 7, at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

      RENEE D. PARKS, 92, of Bellaire, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
      Cremation has taken place.
      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., today, April 6, at Hope Lutheran Church in Bellaire.
