August 10, 2003ObituariesINTERLOCHEN - James "Jamie" Michael Streeter, 24, of Interlochen died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, in Louisville, Ky. He was born Jan. 11, 1979, in Hastings, the son of Michael and Wilma (Preston) Streeter.Jamie is survived by his parents, Michael and Wilma Streeter of Interlochen; and his brother, Travis Streeter of Interlochen. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, where friends may call from 6 p.m. until time of services. SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. - Wesley H. Krause died Aug. 1, 2003, at home in Silver Springs. He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Wallace. Wesley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wanda; his son, Quay (Donna) Krause of Belleview, Fla., his daughter, Karen (Bob) Shelley of Lakeland, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kip (Kathy) Krause, Rhonda (Dan) Fox and Robin McConnaghy; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two nephews in Traverse City, Ken (Barb) Orth and Ron (Peggy) Orth. Wesley is survived by two sisters and was preceded in death by two sisters. Wesley lived in Traverse City for many years, working at Orth Oil Co. and the Osteopathic Hospital. Wes and Wanda moved to Silver Springs in 1980. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at a later date. Please consider a donation to your local hospice in memory of Wes. NORTH MUSKEGON - Phyllis Adelia (Mahn) Potter, widow of Harry Potter, passed away Wednesday evening, August 6, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. She was born Dec. 12, 1903, in Goshen, Ind., the daughter of Ada Pardee Bridge Mahn and Philip J. Mahn. After moving to Elkhart, Ind., she graduated from high school and then studied journalism at Indiana University. In Elkhart, Phyllis was active in many civic affairs, serving as president of Pan Hellenic, school PTAs and vice president of League of Women Voters. In 1947, the family moved to North Muskegon, where Phyllis was active in several organizations including president of Greater Muskegon Women's Club and Northwestern Women's Club District. She was a member of First Congregational Church and its Circle 8, past president of Kiwanis Queens, and original board member of Goodwill Industries. She belonged to Hackley Hospital Auxiliary, Service League and Poetry Society of Michigan. Phyllis wrote professionally of light, serious children's verse and Haiku, appearing in many national magazines and periodicals. Surviving Phyllis are two sons, Harry M. Potter of Elk Rapids and Philip L. Potter of Aurora, Ohio; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, (231) 759-8565. TRAVERSE CITY - Deborah Elaine Bohrn, 49, of Williamsburg died unexpectedly at Munson Medical Center on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. Formerly of Dafter and Sault Ste. Marie, she had been a resident of the Traverse City area for the past 10 years. Deborah was a 1972 graduate of Rudyard High School and a former member of Dafter Presbyterian Church. For 10 years, Deborah was co-owner and operator of Front Row Center Video in Sault Ste. Marie, and most recently was the caregiver of her close friend and employer, Barbara Lossman. Deborah enjoyed cooking, weaving, gardening and especially loved rescuing homeless dogs. Born Dec. 13, 1953, on Edwards Air Force Base in California, she was the daughter of William E. and Mary U. (Valora) Bohrn, who survive. Also surviving are three sisters, Cynthia (John) Brogan of Jackson, Miss., Kimberly (Rick) Barnes of Pelahatchie, Miss., and Tammie (Mark) Brown of Hinesville, Ga.; a brother, Bradford W. Bohrn of Dafter; five nieces, four nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Monday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society. ELK RAPIDS - Robert R. "Bob" Haist, 75, of Elk Rapids died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Bob was a resident of Elk Rapids, moving from Grand Blanc after retirement. He was born in St. Louis, Mo. on Nov. 17, 1927, the son of Wilfrid and Iva E. (Schroeder) Haist. On Nov. 3, 1951, in St. Louis, he married the former Audrey M. Zeller. He was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. Bob retired from General Motors in 1988 after 31 years of service; he was an engineer in both the Buick and Cadillac divisions. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, past president of the Birch Lake Association, past president of GCARC, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church Men's Club in Grand Blanc, a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Legion and the A-Ga-Ming Golf Club in Elk Rapids (he won the championship this year). Bob was an avid golfer and tennis player who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Audrey M. Haist of Elk Rapids; two sons, Keith (Donna) Haist of Shelby Township and Gary (Sherry) Haist of Somerset, Ky.; three daughters, Karen (Patrick) Rodgers of Linden, Kathy (Raymond) Kisonas of Monroe and Elizabeth Haist of Flint; nine grandchildren, Anthony Edens, Amanda Barnett, Angela Haist, Andrew Haist, Ryan Kisonas, Nick Kisonas, Stephanie Haist, Jamie Haist and Nathan Haist; and three great-grandchildren, Dominic, Shawna and Selina. Preceding Bob in death were his parents and a son, Kenny Haist. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, with the Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski as celebrant. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials may be given in Bob's name to the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes, Elk Rapids. DUARTE, Calif. - John Andrew Fleis, 51, formerly of Traverse City, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at home. He was born April 3, 1952, to Thomas and Betty Fleis. On Dec. 15, 1989, he married Margaret Moreno, who survives. John is also survived by his mother, Betty Fleis; his daughter, Lynn (Troy) Thomas; four grandchildren, Logan, Ashley, Lauren and Kendra Thomas; 11 brothers and sisters, Nancy (Sam) LaBonte, Barbara (Robert) Arteaga, Terri (Larry) Lautner, Steve (Celia) Fleis, Dorothy (Jerome) Grant, Joe Fleis, Margaret (Charlie) Deadman, Patti Fleis, Daniel Fleis, Mary (Dan) Snyder and Rosemary Leach; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Fleis; a brother, Thomas A. Fleis; and two nephews, Ryan Leach and Tod Lautner. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, at St. Francis Catholic Church. DOROTHY FREED, 93, of Traverse City died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Birchwood Nursing Center. MARGY 'JEAN' LaPEER, 60, of Kalkaska died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, where friends may call from noon until time of services. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. MATTHEW IAN LENZ, 19, of Onekama died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in a drowning accident in Manistee. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 11, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. | |||
