Obituaries

CURTIS - Virginia M. "Ginny" Tafelsky, 70, of Curtis, formerly of Traverse City, died at her home on Friday, Aug. 22, 2003.
      Born in Traverse City on Oct. 5, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Ida (Witkop) Arfstrom. Ginny was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Co., starting as an operator and rising to business supervisor.
      Survivors include her loving husband Leonard "Len" of Curtis, who she married on Aug. 14, 1951; her sister, Donna (John) Williams of Traverse City; and her brother, Robert (Bonnie) Arfstrom of Sault Ste. Marie. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, godchildren and good friends.
      Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:15 p.m., and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Curtis on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Father Joy Adimakkeel and Father Sabatian Kavumkal concelebrating. A service of committal will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis.
      Memorials in Ginny's honor can be directed to R.P. Hicks Memorial Hospice (envelopes provided at the funeral home), Father Joseph's Mission Fund in care of State Savings Bank in Curtis, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of one's choice.
      Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry is assisting the family.
      DEAN A. DEWITT, 45, of Maple City, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements have been handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
      RUBY SHORT, 72, of Mancelona, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at her home.
      Visitation will take place Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona.
     
      CECILIA G. TOMASZEWSKI, 93, of Manistee, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Manistee Medical Care Facility.
      Visitation will take place this evening, Aug. 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with evening prayers at 8 p.m.
      Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Shrine in Manistee. Burial will immediately follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee.
