August 31, 2003ObituariesMISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Robert Anthony Halachukas, 50, of Mission Viejo, Calif., formerly of Traverse City, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at UCI Medical Center. Bob was executive vice president at Bay View Bank in Mission Viejo, where he worked in the consumer finance field for the past 28 years. Bob's positive attitude and warm personality touched everyone who knew him, from family and friends to fellow employees to the health care workers who helped him through his long illness. Bob became an Eagle Scout through Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City, where his father was Boy Scout leader. He was a 1970 graduate of Traverse City High School and a graduate of Michigan State University. Bob is survived by his wife, Gayle Halachukas; sisters, Bonnie Kirt, Pam (Brian) Ryskamp and Sandra (Dennis) Schichtel; a brother, David (Debbie) Halachukas; two aunts, Marleen Baesch and Cora Baesch; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Bob in death were his parents, Anthony and Jeanne (Baesch) Halachukas. A private memorial service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, in care of Jackie Rolf, UCI Cancer Center, 101 The City Drive S., Bldg. #2, 2nd Floor, RT. 81, Orange, CA 92868. MICHAEL DRZEWIECKI, 24, of Horse Shoe, N.C., died June 6, 2003. Services were held in Henderson, N.C. on June 10. For Michael's extended family in the Traverse City area, a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City. ELIZABETH G. HIBBARD, 89, of Bellaire, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at home. No formal services are planned at this time. Arrangements by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. MARY E. 'BETTY' HOWITSON, 81, of Elk Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Memorial service information and a complete obituary will appear in a future edition of the Record-Eagle. LESS, 90, of Maple City, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Maple Valley Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 6, in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Arrangements by Oak Grove Cremation Center, Manistee. BUFORD V. MILLNER, 100, of Lansing, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 Washtenaw St., Lansing, Mich. 48933. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (Labor Day). NATHAN E. NOTEWARE, 87, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Traverse City, died July 21, 2003, in Arizona. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. DONALD EDWARD PICARDAT, 63, of Filer City, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at his home. Cremation was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Services were held at the Oak Grove Cremation Center, Manistee, on Friday, Aug. 29. CATHERINE E. THOMSON, 87, of Lansing, formerly of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in Lansing. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 30, at Casterline Funeral Home in Northville. Interment will be in Rural Hill Cemetery, Northville. CHARLES J. WARD, 76, of Bellaire, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at home. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Catholic Church, Bellaire. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, Columbus, Ohio. LARRY A. WARD, 40, of Kalkaska, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Northern Michigan Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, where friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services.
