Obituaries

      CARL L. BUREAU, 87, of Manistee, died Dec. 2, 2003, at his home after an extended illness.
      A funeral service will take place on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Manistee, with visitation being held one hour prior to the service.
      Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home, Manistee.
     
      ETHEL M. LARSON, 84, of Manistee, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
      Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee.
      Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary service at 8 p.m.
      Johnson Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of arrangements.
     
      FRANK RATH, 74, 0f Elberta, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital.
      Memorial Services will be held Friday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes. Rev. Stoddard will officiate.
     
      HAROLD L. TELGARD, 81, of Traverse City, died Dec. 2, 2003, at his home.
      Arrangements are pending.

      DR. JOHN CRAIG VAN DALSON, 56, of Traverse City, formerly of Kalamazoo and Saginaw, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at his home.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
      Memorial services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Jeremy Williams officiating.
      A full obituary will appear in the Thursday edition of the Record Eagle.
     
      Gladys Mae Bala
      Died November 25, 2003
      TRAVERSE CITY - Gladys Mae Bala, 83, of Traverse City, died Nov. 25, 2003, after a long illness, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.
      She is survived by her children, Dick (LaVerne) Buffenbarger of Buckley, Roma Sanders of Belevue, Wash., and Patsy (Joseph) Raspino of Sacramento, Calif.
     
      Cortland K. Gore
      Died November 27, 2003
      FLORIDA - Cortland K. Gore, 75, of Traverse City and Vero Beach, Fla., went to be with his Lord on Nov. 27, 2003, after a brief battle with brain cancer.
      Born on the Old Mission Peninsula on March, 10, 1928, he was a fruit grower for over fifty years. In 1976, he and his wife purchased property in Vero Beach, Fla., and became semi-retired.
      He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking the boardwalk, and was an avid tennis player. He also had a summer cottage on Drummond Island, where he spent many happy hours visiting with family.
      A lifelong Methodist, he participated in numerous church activities and was a member of the choir. Cort was also a lifelong member of the PFE morning Coffee Klatch.
      He served eighteen months in the United States Army before returning to the farm. Cort loved his wife, children, and grandchildren, and will be sorely missed. His quick wit and sense of humor were with him until the end.
      He is survived by his wife, Pansy (Pam); three children, Clinton K. (Sally) Gore and Cheryl Gore (David) Follette of Traverse City, and Cindy (Kenny) Niel of Vero Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters, Haley and Bailey Follette of Traverse City; and a grandson, Kenny Niel of Melbourne, Fla. He is also survived by two brothers, Leslie B. Gore of Virginia Beach, Va. and Leland V. (Nan) Gore of Vero Beach, Fla. and Traverse City; three sisters, Jackie (Roger) Visser of Virginia Beach, Va., Katherine Jager of Lansing, Mich., and Ina (Tom) Strain of Vero Beach, Fla., and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; Leslie and Ivah Gore; and two sisters, Glenna and Gloria.
      To honor his life, a memorial service and interment will take place in Traverse City at a later date.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, The American Cancer Society, or Northwestern Michigan College.
     
      Mary Lewis
      Died November 24, 2003
      TRAVERSE CITY - Mary Lewis, 89, of Traverse City, passed away on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003.
      Mary was a homemaker and elementary teacher, most recently at Immaculate Heart Catholic School.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Lewis; her parents, Sophie and Bruno Renski; and her sisters, Josephine Rogers and Martha Blaharski.
      Her love, strength, and independence will be missed by her survivors; daughter, Margaret Hoeksema; nieces, Sophie Blaharski and Cynthia Blair; nephew, James Rogers, their families, and dear friend, Gerry Troph.
      At her request, cremation has taken place and a mass dedicated to Mary will be held on Monday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Suttons Bay.
