Obituaries

      PATRICIA ANN POWERS, 70, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
      DANIELLE L. WHITE, 35, of Traverse City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, surrounded by her loving family.
      A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 6, at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City, with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.
      A full obituary will appear in an upcoming edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Patricia K. Eagle, 81, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Munson Medical Center as a result of complications in her recent battle with lung cancer.
      Born April 2, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wis., she was the daughter of James and Anna (Kerhart) Kunce. Pat was the youngest of four children and grew up in Traverse City at her family home on Carter Road in Greilickville. She lived and worked in Traverse City until she married Rondol S. Eagle on May 26, 1945.
      Ron was a career Navy man, and together they spent the next 30 years living in multiple locations until his retirement, at which time they relocated to the Carter Road home.
      Survivors include her three sons, Rondol E. Eagle of Carmel, Ind., Paul J. Eagle of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael D. Eagle of Traverse City; two brothers, Paul Kunce of Mexico Beach, Fla., and Joseph Kunce of Traverse City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
      Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rondol; and a sister, Marty.
      According to Pat's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Inurnment will be with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
      In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to either the United States Navy Memorial Foundation or the American Lung Association.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      OLD MISSION - Dana T. Ostlund, 95, of Old Mission, died Nov. 29, 2003.
      She was born in Newberry on Feb. 2, 1908, to George Lawrence and Anna Roberts.
      Dana married Allan M. Unruh in 1931, and he preceded her in death. She then married Frank A. Ostlund in Petoskey in 1936, and he also preceded her in death.
      Dana was raised in Petoskey. She started teaching in Osceola County in 1928 and went on to retire from Cherry Knoll School in 1968. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Old Mission Women's Club, from which she was recently awarded a plaque of recognition for 60 years of membership.
      Dana loved to bake, especially Christmas cookies. She loved birds and enjoyed watching them. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening vegetables and flowers. Most of all she loved being with her family.
      She is survived by Jerry L. Ostlund of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Vera (Tony) Tryban of Montague and Nina (Bill) Stitt of Fishers, Ind.; brothers, Roy (Virginia) Lawrence of Grass Valley, Calif., and Earl (Mildred) Lawrence of Youngstown, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Lawrence of Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
      She was preceded in death by her husbands, Allan M. Unruh and Frank A. Ostlund; son, Allan M. Unruh; sisters, Dorothy Cosgrove and Helen Graseck; brothers, Clair and Elmer Lawrence; and a daughter-in-law, Helen A. Ostlund.
      Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home.
      A funeral service will be held at Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. Mr. W.L. Tharp will officiate, and Rev. David Minger will co-officiate. Interment will be in Ogdensburg Cemetery.
      The family asks those wishing to give memorials to please send to family intentions.
     
      BELLAIRE - Theda R. Skinner, 85, of Bellaire, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, 2003, at her daughter's home in Gaylord.
      Born May 4, 1918, in Walkerville, she was the daughter of Leonard J. and Bernice M. (Robart) Reed. On Sept. 30, 1945, she married James A. Skinner, who preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1977.
      A graduate of Walkerville High School, Theda earned a bachelor's degree at Michigan State University and a master's degree at Central Michigan University. She was a teacher, librarian and basketball coach for Wolverine schools from 1951-63. From 1964-77, she was a teacher and librarian for the Bellaire school system.
      Theda was a 50-year life member and past Worthy Matron of the Primrose Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star of Indian River. She was also a member of the Bellaire Literary Club and the Bellaire American Legion Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Bellaire Lioness Club, and a past member and treasurer of the Bellaire Public Library Board.
      Theda was an avid reader, traveler and painter of porcelain, as well as a multifaceted artist. She enjoyed the theater, especially musicals, and loved flowers.
      Surviving are her children, Alan R. Skinner of Bellaire and Judith A. (James Monforton) Doan of Gaylord; brother, Rex Reed of Muskegon; grandchildren, Jennifer Doan of East Jordan, Robin (Sue) Monforton of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joette Monforton of Traverse City, Joel Monforton of Gaylord, Buck (Jennifer) Monforton of Denver, Colo., and Sarah (Chad Sherman) Doan of Wolverine; and her great-grandchildren, Lanie Monforton, and Sadie, Colton and Garrett Sherman.
      Visitation will take place Friday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. under the auspices of the Gaylord OES.
      Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona, with Rev. John E. Naile officiating.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Harold L. Telgard, 81, of Traverse City, died at his home Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.
      Born June 11, 1922, in Traverse City, he was the son of Lila (Groesser) and Harold Telgard. He married his wife, Juliana Bradford, on June 28, 1942, in Traverse City. Harold was a very loving husband and a wonderful father.
      In World War II, Harold served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a life member and past post commander of the Cherryland VFW Post #2780, as well as a member of the American Legion Post #35 and FOE Aerie #383.
      Harold retired in 1984 after 20 years of service at Cone Drive Gear, where he worked as a machinist. In prior years he owned and operated Telgard Trucking Company.
      Surviving is his wife, Juliana of Traverse City; two daughters, Dianna Register of Cranberry Twp., Pa., and Kristin (Ted) McIntyre of Mount Pleasant; a son-in-law, Frank Moss of Troy; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
      Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Alfred "Sonny" Rufli, in 1977; a daughter, Janet Moss, in 1992; and a son-in-law, Johnnie Register, in 1999.
      Visitation will take place Friday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      Full military honors under the auspices of the Cherryland VFW Post #2780 will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens
      Memorial contributions may be made in Harold's name to the Cherryland VFW Post # 2780, the American Heart Association, or to Munson Hospice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Dr. John Craig Van Dalson, 56, of Traverse City, formerly of Kalamazoo and Saginaw, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at home.
      Born May 9, 1947 in Kalamazoo, he was the son of John and Doris (Dahlstrom) Van Dalson, who preceded him in death. On July 12, 1974, in Birmingham, Mich., he married the former Frances Orr, who survives.
      John was a 1969 graduate from the University of Michigan with a degree in engineering and received his medical degree from Wayne State University Medical School in 1976. He practiced family medicine with West Front Primary Care in Traverse City and was also on the staff at Munson Medical Center.
      John was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church. His other memberships included the Michigan State Medical Society, Traverse Nordic Ski Club, Cherry Capital Cycle Club, and the American Board of Family Practice Diplomate.
      Along with his wife, Frances, John is also survived by his children, Jessie (Eric) Houghton and Jeffrey Van Dalson, all of Traverse City, and Jason Van Dalson of Kalamazoo; and his sisters, Judith (Clinton) Van Der Kolk and Shelby (Jim) Wilson.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
      Memorial services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Jeremy Williams officiating.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Asbury United Methodist Church or T.A.R.T. (Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails).
