December 7, 2003ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Robert Daniel "Bob" Lund, Jr., 54, of Traverse City, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Bob was born on June 6, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Robert D. and Emma Jane (Keller) Lund. He and his family later moved to the Detroit area, where Bob graduated from Brother Rice High School and earned his business degree from the University of Detroit. A resident of Traverse City for the past 18 years, Bob had previously lived in the South Bend, Ind., and Bloomfield Hills areas.Bob owned and operated Thrifty Car Rental, Bob Lund Motors and Thrifty Valet. From 1985 until 1990, Bob owned and operated Bob Lund Chevrolet dealership in Traverse City. He attended Christ the King Catholic Church, and was a member of the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association. He was also a member of Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. A constant supporter of organizations in Traverse City, Bob provided vehicles and assistance to the Father Fred Foundation, the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools and St. Francis Gladhander. He also sponsored many athletic programs of Traverse City's Central and West High Schools, as well as St. Francis High School. Bob enjoyed skiing out west, travel and auctions, and always wanted to learn how to fly. His greatest enjoyment was found in making others laugh and spending time with his family on the bay in his boat, "Dealers Choice." Bob is survived by his wife, the former Christine Elizabeth Reason, who he married on Sept. 27, 1975, at St. Hugo of the Hills Church in Bloomfield Hills; by his children, Robert Daniel Lund III, Patrick Dana Lund, and Leslie Alison Lund, all of Traverse City; his father, Robert Daniel Lund, Sr., of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his brother, John Lund, also of Scottsdale; by his sisters, Natalie (Daniel) Kommeth of Holland, Ohio, Catherine (Steven) Moore of Atlantis, Fla.; cousin, Michael Ryan of California; his father in law, Robert E. Reason of Bloomfield Hills; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Reason, Bob (Katherine) Reason, of Bloomfield Hills, Cindy (Paul) Byrd of Troy, and Mary Pamela Reason of Boca Raton, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, a great-nephew, and a great-niece. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme, with the Rev. Father Garth Hilmer officiating. Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., led by the Rev. Father Edwin Thome. TRAVERSE CITY - Margaret Laurene Dakoske, 89, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Laurene was born in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, on May 25, 1914, the daughter of Effie (Stephens) and Patrick McGrail of Dover Township, Ontario. One of nine children, Laurene grew up on her family's farm until she left for Nursing School at St. Joseph's in Chatham, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1937. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's for two years, and for 10 years at Providence Hospital in Detroit. On June 5, 1948, she married Herman G. Dakoske at St. Mary's church in Detroit. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1966. Laurene moved to Traverse City in 1976. Laurene will always be remembered for her deep faith, wonderful sense of humor, generosity, and for the delicious deserts she created. She enjoyed her knitting projects and being with her family and friends. Her family will especially hold dear the memories of the summers spent with her in Frankfort. Laurene is survived by her sons, Michael H. (Sharon) of Traverse City, her son, Joseph G. of Belleville; her daughter, Louise C. (John) Zelenak of Ft. Gratiot, Mich.; her daughter-in-law, Joanna B. (Emory) Dakoske of Traverse City; and by her sister, Theresa (Doug) Mathany of Ontario. In addition to her parents and husband, Laurene was preceded in death by her son, Emory, three sisters and four brothers. Visitation will take place today, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at noon on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with Father Edwin Thome officiating. TROY - Frank Henderson Moss II, 60, of Troy, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at home, of lung cancer. He was born to Frank and Evelyn Moss in Kalamazoo, Mich., on April 11, 1943, and later married Janet Kay (Telgard) Moss, who preceded him in death on March 18, 1992. Frank was a college graduate and worked as a computer engineer. He also served in the United States Coast Guard. He loved golf and football, and was an avid fantasy football player. He also loved sunny days and hanging out on the beach in Traverse City. Frank is survived by his mother, Evelyn Moss; daughter, Jennifer (Mato) Letica; son, Frank H. (Sandy) Moss III; sisters, Barbara Keelan and Jeanne Snapp; grandchildren, Lila, Nick, and Jack Letica; and by his mother-in-law, Julie Telgard. Along with his wife, Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Moss, and father-in-law, Harold Telgard. Visitation took place on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at A.J. TRAVERSE CITY - Ronald Gregory Evans, 56, of Traverse City, formerly of Camden, N.J., died Nov. 11, 2003, at University of Southern California Hospital in Los Angeles. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965, and was a minister with the Jehovah's Witnesses for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Adele; four children, Misty Gonzalez, Sarah Sah, Sunseri and Nathanael Evans; mother, Ruth Herndon; brothers, Jack Evans, Tom (Debra) Evans, David (Trudy) Evans; sisters, Pearl (Lester) Morgan, Barbara Hansen, Diane Revard; grandchildren, Katelyn and Tyler; stepchildren, Aaron Benso of Gaylord, Alyssa Baxter and Aundrea Livingston of Traverse City; and a step-grandchild, Drew Livingston. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack C. Evans. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1950 Chase Rd., in Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - Thomas J. Skudlarick, 62, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a seven-month battle with cancer. Tom was born May 13, 1941 in Coldwater, to Louis and LaMoine Skudlarick. He moved to Traverse City as a young child and attended Traverse City schools. In 1958, he married the former Sue Kelenske, who survives. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Tom had been employed at DeYoung's Wallpaper, and then Burwood Products. He had been employed there for 32 years, retiring as manager of product planning. Tom loved music and enjoyed sharing it with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycling and spending time on his boat, "The 4 C's." In addition to his wife Sue, Tom is survived by his wonderful daughters ("The 4 C's"), Cathy (Ted) Manville and their children, Marie and Katie, Connie (Bill) Carpenter and their children, Amanda and Karissa, Cynthia Champt and her children, Travis and Christopher and Caryn (Doug) Sieffert and their daughter, Erika. Also surviving are his sister, Diane (Jim) Wilson of Holland, Mich.; an aunt and uncle, Shirley and Stan Borden of Florida; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (David) Shick of Ohio, and Chris (Sonny) Szejbach of Elk Rapids; a nephew, several nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to Tom's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, Dec. 7, 2003, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at First Church of the Nazarene, 1023 S. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Tom's doctors, many friends, and Hospice personnel for their love and support. FRANKFORT - Gloria M. MacGirr, 67, of Frankfort, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 23, 1936, to Walter Leon and Frances (Clark) Stubbs at their home on Herring Lake in Blaine Township, Mich. On June 16, 1956, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Frankfort, she married Delmar D. MacGirr of Thompsonville. As a young woman, she began a short career teaching in Thompsonville. She always had a special smile for her students, who called her "Miss Stubbs." After her children entered school, she began a career in cooking, which led to her reputation for her famous potato salad. A highlight in Gloria's life was living and working in Chicago with her husband for four years. She also enjoyed visiting with her customers at WBNZ and Mike's Pastry Shop. Gloria was happiest when her husband, children and grandchildren surrounded her, either at bonfires eating s'mores or on picnics at Crystal Lake. Gloria is survived by her husband, Del; father, Leon Stubbs; sons, Dennis (Jori) of Mt. Morris, Anthony (Phyllis) of Traverse City, Clark (Mariah) of Frankfort, and Daniel (Merry) of Traverse City; her daughters, Jean (Terry) Sykes of Louisiana, Teresa (Randy) Gilbert of Frankfort, and Mary (William) Gillison of Traverse City; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Gloria is also survived by her brothers, John (Anne) Stubbs of Frankfort, and George of Flint; her sisters, Mary Jane (Joseph) Nelson of Frankfort, Rose (Mike) Bradley of Frankfort, Martha Knieps and Elzena Windorfer, both of Petoskey, and Edna Torreano of Flint; and by her in-laws, the MacGirr family. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Frances, on Dec. 4, 1986. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, from St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father Ray Cotter as celebrant. Burial will follow in Thompsonville Cemetery. Waterman, 91, of Rapid City, passed away on Dec. 5, 2003, as a result of an auto accident in Rapid City. He was born on Feb. 5, 1912, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Charles and Maude (Deal) Waterman. Lynn married Theresa Marie Glinski on Oct. 15, 1938, in Detroit. Lynn retired from Chrysler in 1974 after 27 years of service. He and Theresa moved from Southfield to Rapid City in 1976. He enjoyed music, watching movies and woodworking. Lynn is survived by his children, MaryAnn (Thomas Kyle) Waterman of Farmington, Richard Alan (Sharon) Waterman of Rapid City, Judith Lorraine (Ernest) Roy of Livonia and Frances Marie (Nicholas) Mikula of Redford; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenesaw Waterman of Alpine, Ariz.; and by his sister, Janice Bensek of Longview, Texas. Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; and by his son, Lynn Paul Waterman, Jr. There will be visitation on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, from 5 until 8 p.m., and Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, from 10 a.m. until noon, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. DOROTHY JANE CRUDEN, 67, of Beulah, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, in Beulah, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Cole, 87, of Traverse City, died Thursday evening, Dec. 4, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born Feb. 19, 1916, in Belding, she was the daughter of Bert A. and Lena (Pennels) Hough. On July 13, 1941, in Flint, she married Charles N. Cole, who preceded her in death. Marjorie had been employed as a secretary, and was later self-employed with Merle Norman Cosmetics. She was an active member of the Community of Christ Church and the Eastern Star. Marjorie received great joy from singing in her church choir, the Grand Traverse Chorale, and the Chevrolet Chorus, where she sang as a soloist. She was always a giving and compassionate woman, which was evident by her volunteering at Munson Medical Center's ICU reception room, working with disabilities and teaching English to foreign exchange students. Marjorie was a wonderful seamstress, and she especially loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her children, Ron N. (Marilyn) Cole of Howell and Sandy (Dr. Jim) Johnston of Traverse City; sisters, Mary David of Flint and Opal Hartman of Kalkaska; six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Marjorie was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Ronald Hough. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
