She was born on July 26, 1964, in Salem, Ore., to Raymond and Lucille Jones. Thaddea graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy in 1982. She then entered Williamette University to study music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1987. She then relocated to Amarillo, Texas, to live with her uncle Lyle and her 'second mother', Orma Ray. Thaddea entered the master's program at the University of Wyoming in 1989, where she met her future husband, Michael R. Schopieray. She graduated in 1992 with a Masters in Music degree, with an emphasis on piano performance. Mike and Thaddea were wed on May 22, 1990, in Laramie, Wyo. In 1993, Thaddea and Michael's married life led them to Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., where Thaddea worked for the Florida Department of Health. In 1994, they relocated to Ohio State University, where Thaddea worked for the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture, and later for the Department of Music. While working for Ohio State, they welcomed their beloved children, Montana Marie and Shaun Paul, into their lives. Further employment ultimately led them to the Marquette area, where they were embraced by the community of Gwinn and their friends on Crusader Avenue. Thaddea had been a gifted pianist since she was a small child. Her powerful command of the keyboard and subtle fingering techniques of classical repertoires awed her students, family, and friends. She competed in national piano competitions and was accepted into the prestigious Aspen Music Festival in 1992. She played piano and organ for the First Baptist Church of Marquette, and worked as a part-time accompanist for the Music Department at Northern Michigan University. She taught voice and piano to area students and imparted her love for music with her children. One of Thaddea's musical dreams was realized two years ago, with the purchase of her baby grand piano. Thaddea was employed in the Human Resources Department of ACN at K.I. Sawyer. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America, and served as Troop Leader of Troop 45. In order to fulfill her belief that no child should be left behind, she became a Brownie Daisy Junior leader and co-director of the Girl Scout Summer Fun Days. Thaddea was recently certified in first-aid training and took a hunter safety course. Thaddea's heartfelt love of music, generosity of spirit, and wonderful laugh will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Michael; her children, Montana and Shaun; her father, Raymond Jones of Salem, Ore.; her sisters, Lucie (Mark) Garreston of Sherwood, Ore., and Mikki (Kerry) Jones of Portland, Ore.; brother, Ray of Pendleton, Ore.; mother-in-law, Patricia Schopieray; and sisters-in-law, Christine (Robert Kelley) Schopieray and Kimberly (Roger Merveau) Schopieray. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille; and by her father-in-law, Joseph Paul Schopieray. A memorial service was held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in Gwinn. The Gwinn Funeral Home is assisting the family. Thaddea's obituary can be viewed at www.gwinnfuneral.com, where relatives and friends may leave a note of remembrance.
