FRANK R. DOCKERY, 78, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at his home.

      MARTHA AGNES KASKINEN, 78, of Kaleva, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Bethany Lutheran Church, in Kaleva. Interment will be in Maple Grove Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva.

      JOSEPH S. KERNOSKY, 73, of Grayling, died on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Grayling Nursing Centre.
      Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Sorenson Funeral Home in Grayling. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood.

      JACQUELINE MARIE 'JACKIE' WEBER, 49, of Fountain, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at her residence.
      A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Custer, with a dinner to follow at Citizen's Sportsman's Club of Fountain.

      ANN DONALD WUNSCH, died Nov. 12, 2003.
      A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at the Old Mission Congregational Church.

      GAYLORD - Stephen Charles Koenig, of Gaylord, went home to his Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003. He was born on Oct. 24, 1951, in Cincinnati, to Charles 'Bud' and Mary Lou Koenig. On March 13, 1976, he married Cathy (Gill) Koenig.
      Stephen attended high school at the University of Detroit, graduating in 1969. In 1973, he earned a degree in journalism from the University of Michigan.
      Stephen worked for the Cadillac Evening News from 1976 to 1979, and the Traverse City Record Eagle from 1979 to 1983.
      He was a member of Gaylord Evangelical Church.
      Stephen was an avid skier and ski instructor, and enjoyed sailing, photography, reading, and car racing.
      He has given hope to many other brain tumor patients through his 22-year survival of brain cancer. His survivor story has been posted on the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research and Information. He was thankful to see his children grow up, graduate from high school, and attend college.
      Stephen is survived by his wife, Cathy; daughters, Melissa Koenig of Athens, Ohio, and Rebecca Koenig of Farmington; mother, Mary Lou Koenig; brother, David (Ellen) Koenig; sisters, Laurie (Andy) Wentworth and Cathy Landry; 13 nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.
      He was preceded in death by his father, Charles 'Bud' Koenig; his grandparents, Carl and Norma Koenig, and Emma and Arch Montague; and niece, Kirsten Irene Heacock.
      Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m., from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Rev. James Mathis, officiating. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home, in Gaylord, on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

      TRAVERSE CITY - George E. Wepking, 82, of Traverse City, died on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Born Feb. 15, 1921, in Maple City, he was the son of Erma Leah (Hopkins) and George Wepking Sr. He married Elmy (Erickson) Inman-Wepking on Sept. 15, 1984, in Cedar.
      George retired as a meat-cutter, after thirty years of service, from Oleson's Food Stores. He served his country in WWII with the US Navy, and was a lifetime member of Cherryland VFW Post #2780. He was also a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Cedar.
      George could be described as a gentleman who could carry on a conversation with any stranger. He was a charming, charismatic, kind individual. He loved gardening, and in his younger years, while playing basketball for Maple City school, he acquired the nickname 'Flea' from his teammates.
      George is survived, from his first marriage to Luzetta, by one daughter, Judith McGee of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Michael and Kristina; and two great-grandchildren, Josh and Kaitlyn Vezina. From his second marriage to Jesse, he is survived by one stepdaughter, Michelle Patton of Sterling; and by several grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Elmy; five stepchildren, Donald Inman of Interlochen, Duane Inman, Daniel Inman, and Dale Inman, all of Traverse City, and Devon Sprandel of Maple City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Mikowski of Cedar; and by several nieces and nephews.
      George was preceded in death by his first wife, Luzetta; his second wife, Jesse; and one brother, Charles Wepking.
      Visitation was held on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held today, Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar, Rev. Robert Wurst, officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, with full military honors, which will be conducted under the auspices of Cherryland VFW Post #2780.
      Memorial contributions in honor of George may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Cherryland VFW Post #2780.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Esther A. Balesh, 87, of Traverse City, died on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 5, 1916, in Solon Township, the daughter of Martin and Anna Bugia. Esther married Fred Balesh, who preceded her in death.
      Esther sold Stanley Home products for 55 years, with 35 years as district manager.
      She was a loving and caring person, who enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her great-grandchildren.
      Esther is survived by her son, James Sr. (Arlene) Balesh; grandson, James Jr. (Robin) Balesh; granddaughters, Brenda (Douglas) Schaub, Tammy (Jeremy) Marchland; great-grandson, Joshua Balesh; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Balesh; and step-granddaughter, Samantha Utter. She is also survived by her brother, Adolph (Anna) Bugia; sisters-in-law, Helen Bugia and Ardith Bugia; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death be her son, Richard Balesh; a sister, Mary; and brothers, Steve, Stephen, Julius, and Gordon.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m., from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. James Hayden as celebrant. Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Covell Funeral Homes, Traverse City Chapel, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, at the church, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorials may be directed to The Cedar Rescue unit or The Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools.

      ELK RAPIDS - Thomas G. Notebaert, 81, of Elk Rapids, formerly of Plymouth, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Bortz Health Care Center of Traverse City. Born August 9, 1922, in Detroit, he was the son of Marguerite (Joly) and Gerard Notebaert. He married Rita L. (Bruckner) Notebaert on May 14, 1949, in Detroit.
      Tom formerly owned and operated Tom Notebaert Real Estate in Plymouth. He was a former supervisor of Plymouth Township, was a member and past president of the Plymouth Rotary club, and was a veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater, obtaining the Silver Star while in the US Army.
      Surviving are his wife, Rita, of Elk Rapids; two children, Craig (Georgia) of Plymouth, and Michelle (Jerry Dietrich) Notebaert of Rapid City; four grandchildren, Ryan, Roth, and Carlee Notebaert, and Amy (Steve) Dietrich-Goss; one great-grandson, Alex Goss; and one sister, Hortence Egnatious of Troy.
      A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski as celebrant. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
      Memorials may be directed, in honor of Tom, for mass intentions.
