      RAPID CITY - Leonette Jane Johnson passed away with her family by her side on Dec. 19, 2003, at her home in Rapid City.
      She was born on Nov. 25, 1940, in Rapid City, the daughter of Hurdes "Doc" and Ardeith (Packer) Hanson. Leonette married Larry L. Johnson on Jan. 11, 1958, in South Boardman. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1995.
      Leonette worked in Kalkaska schools in the Latchkey Program. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and being with her grandchildren, family and friends.
      Surviving are Leonette's children, Kim L. (David) Gibson of South Boardman, Ron L. Johnson of Kihei, Hawaii, Ardeith L. (Stephen) Larson of South Boardman, and Christine L. (Arnie) Omsberg of Rapid City; her 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard L. Hanson of Fontana, Calif.
      Visitation will take today, Dec. 22, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with additional visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Steven Packer will be officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
      Memorials may be given on behalf of Leonette to Munson Hospice.
      Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Ruth Maxine Garvin, 68, known to many as Grandma, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Ruth was born in Traverse City on June 22, 1935, the daughter of Ella (Kadlec) and Fred Kaltenbach. On Oct. 1, 1955, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City, she married Roman A. Garvin.
      Ruth was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. For 26 years she was employed by Traverse City Area Public Schools as a noon duty and playground assistant at Long Lake Elementary School. While there, she touched the lives of many children and teachers, and encouraged the children with her "pep talks."
      Ruth loved being involved and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She will always be remembered for her smiling face and kindness.
      Ruth is survived by her husband, Roman; her children, Shirley (Sonny) Eley, Thomas (Susan) Garvin, Patricia Garvin (fiancÚ, Brad Albarado), Gerald (Shirley) Garvin and Stephen (Lisa) Garvin, all of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren, Christina, Jayson, Kylee, Shayna, A.J., Travis, Nickay, Jared, Matt, Nick, Angie and Josh; three great-grandchildren, Keyanna, Kaylee and Khamille; her brothers and sisters, Lawrence Kaltenbach, Odelia (Bud) Cook, Virgil (Betty) Kaltenbach, Pauline (Don) Schopieray, Bertha (Jim) Harvey and Robert Kaltenbach, as well as many nieces and nephews.
      Ruth was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Leo, Fred and Stephan; and her sister, Frieda Johnson.
      Visitation will take place from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
      The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass. The Rev. Father James Hayden will serve as celebrant.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Mass intentions or to Munson West 4 Oncology.

      HENRY W. BROWN, 78, of Pierport, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee.
      Memorial services for Henry will be held at a later date. Final interment and cremation will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Cremation Center.

      ETHEL PETERSON, 79, of Fife Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Green Acres in Cadillac.
      Visitation will take place today, Dec. 22, at Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, Dec. 24, at Stark Funeral Home in Ypsilanti. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh.
