The funeral mass for RUTH GARVIN, who died Sun, Dec. 21 will be held at 10 a.m. Wed. Dec. 24 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will take place today from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. EDNA BREITHAUPT MARTIN, 82, of Detroit, formerly of the Traverse City area, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 in Ann Arbor. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will take place Friday, Dec. 26 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of the Record-Eagle. Miles Bordeau Deters Died December 19, 2003 LAKE LEELANAU - Miles Bordeaux Deters, age 3 days, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Munson Medical Center. Miles, which means, and who is, a merciful soldier, was born Dec. 16 at Munson Medical Center. Miles is survived by his proud parents, Joshua and Sarah Bordeaux Deters, by his twin brother, Levi; his maternal grandparents, Matthew and Marilyn (Morrison) Bordeaux of Freeland; his paternal grandparents, Stephen F. and Madeleine (Frank) Deters, of Cincinnati, Ohio; his aunts and uncles, Jason and Stephanie Bordeaux of Traverse City, Catherine A. Deters of Silver Spring, Md., Jamieson F. Deters of Cincinnati; his big cousins, Taylor and Alexander Bordeaux and many extended family members and friends. Private family services will be held. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Munson Medical Center. The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Ophila 'Tillie' Basch Died December 22, 2003 TRAVERSE CITY - Ophila Basch, 84, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Munson Medical Center after a brief illness. Tillie was born on July 6, 1919, in Port Oneida, Mich., to Thomas and Bessie Kelderhouse. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Margaret, Marion, Millie, Ida, Irene, Thomas, Floyd and Gloria. Tillie married Willard Basch on Sept. 24, 1938. That same year they founded the Basch Excavating Company. Tillie loved to dance, loved music, loved fishing and playing cards, and she loved her cats and dog. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Willard Basch, and by her children: Kathy (Leland) Cram, Steven (Linda) Basch and Stan (Bonnie) Basch. She also is survived by five grandchildren: Todd, Eric, Marc, Stephanie and Andy and five great-grandchildren. The family will hold a private service and suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherryland Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes. Kenneth D. McClatchey Died December 21, 2003 ANN ARBOR - Kenneth D. McClatchey, 61, of Ann Arbor, passed away after a short illness on Dec. 21, 2003. He was the very much loved husband of Martha, adored father of Sean, Suki, Suni an Stephen; the cherished son of Helen and the late Kenneth F. McClatchey. He also was the dear brother of Barbara Simonds of Laurenceville, N.J., Ronald (Karen) McClatchey of Traverse City, Mary Lynn (Douglas) Kramer of Chicago, Nancy (Robert) Stein of Buffalo, N.Y. and Colleen McClatchey of Ann Arbor. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and respected colleagues. He will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life is being planned for a future date. Dana Lee DeWitt Died December 21, 2003 TRAVERSE CITY - Dana Lee DeWitt, 50, of Cedar, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Born July 15, 1953 in Grayling, he was the son of Robert and Barbara (Williams) DeWitt. On Oct. 30, 1984, in Albany, N.Y., he married the former Linda L. Burgan, who survives. A resident of Cedar for the past 15 years, Dana was a 1971 graduate of Roscommon High School. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy for six years. Dana had been employed as a licensed plumber and builder. He was a member of the AML of Traverse City and enjoyed sailing, golfing and music. Along with his wife, Linda, Dana is survived by his two children, Dawn and Dustin DeWitt of Traverse City; parents, Robert and Barbara DeWitt of Roscommon; two sisters, Laura DeWitt (Jim) Cherven of Ann Arbor and Jennie Walker of Roscommon; the mother of his children, Debera Ann DeWitt of St. Clair Shores; and five nieces and nephews. A time to gather and celebrate Dana's life will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City today from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Roscommon on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at 11 a.m. Rev. Philip E. Johnson Died December 19, 2003 SPRING LAKE, Mich. - Rev. Philip E. Johnson, age 82, of Spring Lake (formerly of Northport) died Friday, Dec. 19, at a Zeeland care facility. Rev. Johnson was a pastor with the Evangelical Covenant Church of America serving God at churches in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. He is survived by his wife and help-mate of 60 years, Eunice and children: Jeanne' (Charles) Gembis of Owosso, Lila (Jim) Hatch of West Olive, Christine Johnson of Traverse City, David (Marilyn) Johnson and Richard (Susan) Johnson both of Minneapolis, Minn. also 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a sister Edith (James) Broten of St. Paul, Minn. A memorial service for Rev. Johnson will be held today at 2 p.m. from Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church. His family will greet friends at a luncheon following the service in the church. Memorials to Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church or Northport Covenant Church Building Fund are appreciated.
