Obituaries

      DELORES ALDRIDGE, 92, of Fife Lake, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center LTC.
      A memorial service will take place in August.
      A full obituary will appear in Sunday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      RONALD G. DOWNEY, 64, of Gaylord, died on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003.
      Arrangements are being handled by Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord.
     
      ALICE JUNE HARTWIG, 80, of Grayling, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling.
      Visitation will be held at Sorenson Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church.
      Arrangements are being handled by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling.
     
      NANCY MABEL HILL, 81, of Traverse City, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Cincinnati at a later date.
      Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      LILLIAN IRENE MALONEY, 90, of Kalkaska, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center LTC.
      A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Christian Memorial Gardens in Rochester Hills.
      Arrangements are being handled by Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      EDWIN A. SCHAEFER II, 78, of Brethren, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva, with Father Michael P. Conner officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of services.

      WILFRED CHARLES 'BUD' SPEAS, 91, of Traverse City, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Bible Baptist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at 11 a.m., with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Gerald Bauman will be officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      ELEANOR ZIMMERMANN, 85, of Gaylord, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003.
      Arrangements are being handled by Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord.
     
      BLACK RIVER - Harry A. Martin Jr., 67, of Black River, formerly of Flint, died Dec. 21, 2003, at home.
      From 1967 to 1995, he taught at Carman-Ainsworth High School in Flint.
      Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Martin of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Margaret Martin of Chicago; two sons, John B. Martin and Albert H. Martin, both of Seattle; a brother, Jim Martin of Frankfort; and his dear friend, Doris Breijack.
      A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Haynes Community Church in Harrisville. His family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
      Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, Mich., 989-736-8195.

      HONOR - Florence Denny, 87, of Honor, died on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at The Maples. Mrs. Denny was born on Jan. 25, 1916, in Miles City, Mont., the daughter of Truman and Dolly (Moore) Ketchum.
      She was a former employee of Mitchell Bentley.
      Following her retirement, she enjoyed ceramics and loved her family, which was very important to her.
      She is survived by three sons; Donald "Mac" McLain of Traverse City, Lanny McLain of Florida, and Charles "Fritzie" (Kathy) Denny of Gaylord; two daughters, Phyllis Raffaele of Muskegon, and Judy McLain of Ludington; two special daughters-in-law, Joan and Cindy; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Erna, Gretchen, Shirley and Terry.
      Mrs. Denny was preceded in death by a son, Jason Michael Denny; a grandson, Frederick "Freddie B." Beechraft; and a special daughter-in-law, Jan.
      Cremation has taken place and services for family and friends will be held at a later date, when the family can gather.
      The family was assisted by McElduff Funeral Homes, Benzonia Chapel.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Edna Breithaupt Martin, 82, of Riverview, formerly of Traverse City, died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in Ann Arbor. Edna was born on April 2, 1921, in Solon Township, the daughter of Bertha (Killman) and Joseph Breithaupt. Edna married Nicholas Martin who preceded her in death.
      She received her education from Immaculate Conception School. Edna moved to the Detroit area and lived their all of her adult life.
      She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Trenton, and had been employed as a clerk with the Orange Blossom Diamond Company. She also was also a waitress for many years at some of the extravagant Detroit restaurants, making the acquaintances of many notable sports figures and business people. She liked to secure autographs from the sports figures for her nieces and nephews.
      She and Nick enjoyed to travel, and she continued to do so after his death. She loved to dance, especially polkas, and loved the sunshine, warm weather, swimming, fashion and bingo. With Edna, everything was an adventure.
      She is survived by her sister, Marie (Versel) McCrumb of Ann Arbor; a brother-in-law, Dan Weber of Traverse City; her sisters-in-law, Gladys Breithaupt of Traverse City, Phyllis Breithaupt and Rose Breithaupt, both of Detroit; and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew who had been tremendous to Edna over the years, Carl Breithaupt, Jr.
      In addition to her husband, Edna was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Dorothy Weber, Margaret Felisky, Regina Collins, Charles, Carl and James Breithaupt.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Janowski serving as celebrant. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Charles E. "Chuck" Scott Jr., of Traverse City, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at his home. He was born in Detroit on Sept. 15, 1919, the son of Charles E. and Ada Maude (Castle) Scott. On March 4, 1945, he married the former Kathleen Glassford in Royal Oak.
      Chuck retired from Cone Gear Corp, and also worked as a carpenter for Comstock Construction. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, as a part of the 254th Engineers Company C. He served in Scotland, Ireland, Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, D-Day and Omaha Beach.
      Chuck enjoyed fishing, woodcarving and gardening. He truly loved his family and grandchildren.
      Chuck is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen Scott of Traverse City; two daughters, Carolyn Scott (N. Edward) Risk and Susan Scott (Edgar L.) Snyder; two grandsons, Norman C. Risk and Jacob A. Snyder; granddaughter, Rebecca A. Snyder; great-granddaughter, Alicia M. Risk; and by his twin brother, Allen C. Scott of Traverse City.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, H. Fletcher Scott and George Scott; and by his sister, Dorothy Scott MacDonald.
      A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
