Obituaries

HONOR - Peggy Joyce Rock, 62, of Honor, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      She was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Jackson, the daughter of Arthur and Dorothy (Gibson) Bailow.
      Peggy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who lived for her children. She enjoyed ceramics, crafts and reading novels.
      On Aug. 18, 1968, in Beulah, Peggy married Lester Charles Rock, who survives her. She is also survived by six children, Walter Rock of Interlochen, Loretta Lynn (Jon) Mulhollen of West Virginia, Deborah (Bert) Hewitt of Lake Ann, Chris (Bobbi Jo) Rock of Florida, Dianne (Jeff Cooper) Rock of Honor and Lonna Rock of Honor; her father, Arthur Bailow of Jackson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Bailow of Thompsonville and A. Frank Bailow of Jackson; a sister, Carol (Ken) Stasiak of Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Peggy was preceded in death by her mother; and a sister, Donna Trammel.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Pastor Rennie Crawford officiating. Interment will be in the Platte Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m. until time of services at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Henry Joseph Kroupa, 94, died Dec. 29, 2003, at Birchwood Nursing Center.
      Henry was born on Oct. 6, 1909, in Mapleton, the son of Elizabeth (Dufek) and Joseph Kroupa.
      A lifetime cherry farmer, Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beatrice (Bouder) Kroupa, one brother, Bernard Kroupa Sr., two sisters, Margaret Dohm, Katherine Timmins and an infant daughter.
      Henry is survived by his sister, Francis Rokos; his daughter, Elizabeth (Howard) Wheelock; four grandchildren, Karen (Tom) Mang, Brian (Tina) Wheelock, Terry (Sandy) Wheelock, Sherry (Rodnie) Welch; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      No services are planned at this time. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Richard Louis Kennedy, 71, of Ann Arbor and Traverse City, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Traverse City, with his beloved family at his side.
      Richard was born on Sept. 11, 1932, in Detroit, and was raised in Howell. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1954 and went on to a 38-year career at Michigan before retiring as Vice President of Government Relations and Secretary to the University. Richard was the longest serving executive in the history of the University and his signature has appeared on over 227,000 diplomas.
      Richard was a member of St. Thomas parish in Ann Arbor. He volunteered his time to numerous community service and church organizations.
      Richard moved to Traverse City in 2002 and enjoyed Grand Traverse Bay, sunsets and time with his family. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish in Traverse City.
      Richard was preceded in death by his dear wife, Ann, and is survived by his children and grandchildren: Stephen, his wife Deanna and their children Christopher and Julianna; Martha Videan, her husband Rick and their children Ben and Eric; Patricia Kennedy; Timothy, his wife Terry and their children Meaghan and Brendan; and Peggy Sheagren and her husband Erik.
      He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Robert (Joanne), Elizabeth Smith (Max), Dolores Walsh (Jack), Ronald (Rebecca) and Mary Anne Lyberg (Matthew); and several nieces and nephews.
      The family will receive friends today, Dec. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Muehlig Chapel in Ann Arbor.
      A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Church in Ann Arbor at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31.
      Contributions can be mailed to St. Thomas - Heritage Fund in Ann Arbor, and to the American Cancer Society.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Felix Popa, 82, of Traverse City, formerly of the Kalkaska-Mancelona and Royal Oak areas, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born May 31, 1921, in Solon Township, he was the son of Paul and Anna (Flees) Popa. On March 27, 1945, in Isadore, he married the former Phyllis Switzer.
      Felix served his country honorably with the United States Army during World War II in Alaska. He later retired from his employment with the Ferndale School District and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak.
      Felix had many interests and hobbies, including bird watching and feeding; he was an avid rock hound, enjoyed camping, fishing, canning, water skiing, and his daily walks with his nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed working with wood and was always thrilled with the abundance of sawdust he produced.
      He is survived by his son, Leonard J. Popa of Holly; daughter, Marjorie Popa of Royal Oak; four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Dustin and Casey; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Chester (Eva) Popa of Traverse City; three sisters, Joanne Rosinski of Cedar-Traverse City, Henrietta Gorski of Covina, Calif., Rosabelle (Elmer) Poertner of Traverse City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
      Felix was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis D. Popa on March 5, 1999; a sister, Esther O'Hara; and brothers, Basil, Raymond, Phillip, William and Xavier Popa.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m.
      Services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Father James Gardiner will officiate. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery in Berkley.
      JOHANNA M. BAYNTON, 97, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      A memorial service will be held in the spring.

      LENORE JOAN BROWN, 82, of Arcadia, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 28, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia, with Deacon Theodore Beiderwieden officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Arcadia.
      The Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home of Bear Lake is serving the family.
     
      LILLIAN M. "DOLLY" BUTKOVICH, 85, of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church/Mapleton on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m.

      CAROL LEE McLEOD, 66, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at her home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., today, Dec. 30, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Mancelona, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
      Arrangements have been handled by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
     
      RICHARD PATULSKI, 85, of Manistee, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Tendercare of Ludington.
      Visitation will take place Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with evening prayers at 8 p.m.
      Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Manistee.
     
      ORRIS E. WILLIAMS, 84, of Kalkaska, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center-LTC.
      Visitation will take place today, Dec. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fife Lake Cemetery.
      TRAVERSE CITY - William L. Miles, 86, of Traverse City, died Sunday morning, Dec. 28, 2003, at Bortz Health Care.
      Born Nov. 2, 1917, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he was the son of William James and Annie (Green) Miles. On April 12, 1941, he married Kathleen Jamison, also of Belfast, his wife of more than 50 years, who preceded him in death in 1992.
      Bill served in the British Royal Navy during World War II and saw action on a minelayer in both the African and Asian theaters. He was a welder by trade, beginning at an early age in the Belfast shipyards, and worked as an ironworker, primarily in Michigan, until his retirement to Port Charlotte, Florida, in 1976.
      In 1950, he and his family immigrated to Canada and ultimately the United States, where he and Kathleen became naturalized citizens in 1971. Bill was an active member of the Elks Lodge in Port Charlotte and was designated Elk of the Year for 1987-88.
      Survivors include his son, William (Susan) of Traverse City, and their children, Amy, Jennifer, Lindsay, Emily (Akira) Maekawa, Kelsey (Charles) Hyslop, Morgan (Stephen) Dix, Julia (Christopher) Summers, Courtney, Whitney (Nathan) Richardson, Jasmine, Tevin and Sean; son, Brian (Renee) of Houston, Texas, and their children, Jamison and Laura; daughter, Margaret of Tampa, Fla., and her sons, Mark (Julie) and Aaron; son, Richard (Robin) of Trenton, and their child, Julie; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Maekawa, Cody and Andrew Foster, Kayla Richardson, and Cheyenne Hyslop.
      Along with his wife, Kathleen, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Belle, Richard, and Jesse

      BENZONIA - Walter Henry Harris, 71, of Mount Morris and Benzonia, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at his residence.
      He was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Beulah, the son of George and Ida (Andrews) Harris.
      Walter was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. In 1988, he retired after 28 years of employment at the General Motors V-8 Plant in Flint.
      Walter was a life member of the NRA, and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
      Walter is survived by two sons, Walt (Sharon) Harris Jr. of Honor and Gary (Janie) Harris of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Cynthia (Dave) Corey of Benzonia, Matthew Harris of Benzonia, David (Amy) Harris of Whitmore Lake, Shaundra Harris of Jackson and Emma Havenstein of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Faith and Samuel Corey; his brothers and sisters, George (Susie) Harris of Benzonia, Mary Hansen of Manton, Paul (Janet) Harris of Cedar Springs and Shirley Judd of Grand Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Walter was preceded in death by a son, David Harris; and a daughter, Kathy Harris.
      Visitation will be held today, Dec. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Interment will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery.
     
      SUTTONS BAY - Janet Noreen Schaub, 69, of Suttons Bay, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at her home.
      Born Aug. 22, 1934, in Empire, she was the daughter of Mark and Elinor (Sullivan) McGarry. On Sept. 29, 1956, she married Alfred L. Schaub at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
      A registered nurse, Janet was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau. She enjoyed growing her flower garden. She was very active in and loved following her children and grandchildren in their sports activities.
      Janet is survived by her husband, Albert Schaub; children, Gary (Marylyn) Schaub of Kingsley, Larry (Sheila) Schaub of Suttons Bay, Shirley (Carl) Garthe of Lake Leelanau and Bill (Lisa) Schaub of Traverse City; a brother, Richard (Helen) McGarry of Clinton Township; a sister, Kathleen Seiler of Phoenix, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren, Myra, Kaleb, Seth, Samantha, Clarissa, Jack, Erica, Samantha and Danny.
      She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack McGarry; and a sister, Maxine Sury.
      Visitation will take place today, Dec. 30, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay, with a rosary at 7 p.m.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau, with the Rev. Jerry Hunko officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's School.

      TRAVERSE CITY - After spending a joyful Christmas in Traverse City, Ella Peck Haines, 91, of Medford, N.J., peacefully passed away on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, surrounded by her son Joseph's family.
      Ella was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Kalamazoo, to Charles Franklin and Louise (Delano) Peck. On July 19, 1937, in Allegan, Ella married J. Edward Haines of Medford, N.J., with whom she shared 51 wonderful years.
      She graduated from Allegan High School in 1930 and after a year at Ferry Hall Finishing School in Chicago, Ella attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts, graduating in 1935.
      Ella was a resident of Medford, N.J., from 1937 to the present, most recently making her home in Medford Leas, a retirement community. She was a member of the Moorestown Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution (DAR), and was very active at the Medford meeting of The Society of Friends.
      Ella and her husband hosted several international students through the Rotary Club in Medford. Ella was active in the Embroiders Guild, and also belonged to the Sewing and Knitting Group in the Medford Leas community, where she served as chairperson for many years. All projects were donated to the American Friends Service Committee.
      Ella was an avid knitter who blessed each of her great-grandchildren with special blankets from their 'Gram.' Days before her passing, she completed her last baby blanket for her 10th great-grandchild, who is due to arrive any day now to parents Mark and Karen Linder.
      Ella enjoyed traveling, especially to locations that brought her together with family. She enjoyed vacations at Ocean City, N.J., and cruises with her children and grandchildren.
      Ella is survived by her three children, Charles W. (Carolyn) Haines of Rochester, N.Y., Joseph E. (Marilyn) Haines of Traverse City and Margaret H. (Donald) Kendall of Bloomfield, N.Y.; grandchildren, Marie (David) Leonard of Austin, Texas, Karen (Mark) Linder of Onarga, Ill., William Kendall of LaFayette, N.Y., Jennifer (Brandon) Whitworth of Harvest, Ala., Melissa (Donald) Crowell, Robert Haines and Kristen Hains, all of Traverse City, Suzann Hains of Holly, Catherine (Steve) Towers of Brownstown; great-grandchildren, Zac, Noah and J.J. Crowell, Nicholas (her 'Nicolai') Hains, Taylor, Maddie and Christian Towers, Tim and Corbin Sines; sister, Cornelia Peck and brother, Dr. Charles Peck of Medford, N.J.; and numerous other relatives throughout the country, as well as her close friends at Medford Leas, including the 'Sunday Bunch.'
      Ella was preceded in death by her husband, J. Edward; and her sister, Louise Secord.
      Memorial services will be held at Medford Leas, Medford, N.J., on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 10 a.m.

      BEAR LAKE - Irene Ethel Ware, age 90, of Bear Lake, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 28, 2003, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
      She was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Bear Lake Township, the daughter of the late Earl and Lucina (Richmond) Edmondson. She graduated from Bear Lake High School on May 25, 1932. Irene married Arthur L. Ware of Bear Lake on Nov. 16, 1933. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1980.
      Irene helped farm on the family homestead and had been employed at Sawyer Fruit in Bear Lake. She was a member of Bear Lake United Methodist Church and The Kaleva Retirees. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and had been an avid bowler. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
      Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Joyce Ware of Bear Lake; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Bert Clements of Brethren, Lois and LaVern Harthun, Alyce and Ken Nelson, and Laura and Roger McBride, all of Bear Lake; 12 grandchildren, Diane Meekhof, Jan and Bill Martin, Eugene and Ellen Clements, Natalie and Tim Fauble, Julie and Dennis Gilman, Paula Ware, Lynda Prior, Sandy and Jeff Randall, Lisa and Steve Kennedy, Karen and Tim Babcock, Lori and Mark Mullet, and Becky and Tony Sikora; and 27 great-grandchildren.
      Brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and many friends also survive.
      She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rhonda Sue Harthun; grandson, Patrick Ivan Frain; brothers, Joseph, Earl and Erford Edmondson; and sisters, Marie Fauble, Dora Anderson, Laura Edmondson, and Eva Jeruzal.
      The family will receive friends today, Dec. 30, at the Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home in Bear Lake from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
      Funeral Services for Irene E. Ware will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Mark Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Bear Lake Township Cemetery.
      Memorials are being established in Irene's name for the Bear Lake United Methodist Church and the Leukemia Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or the church.

      INTERLOCHEN - James N. Hickey, 54, of Interlochen died on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Born on Aug. 25, 1949, in Cadillac, he was the son of Ruth (Mertes) and Merlin Hickey. He married his wife, Charlotte (Torrey) Hickey, on Aug. 5, 1967, in Cadillac.
      Jim was employed at United Engineered Tooling Company of Traverse City and enjoyed sports, especially fishing.
      Surviving Jim are his wife, Charlotte 'Char' of Traverse City; two sons, Brent (Lori) of Interlochen, and Aaron (Kelly) of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Ian, Jacob, and Jenna Hickey; one sister, Karen (Edward) Piontek of Portage; one aunt, Lucille Samuelson of Traverse City; two uncles, Bill and Bob Kildee; a niece, Mary Piontek; a nephew, Todd Piontek; step-father, Ralph Bohrer of Traverse City; two step-brothers, Dr. Raymond Bohrer and Ronald Bohrer, both of Traverse City; two step-sisters, Susan Crandall of Traverse City and Bonnie Peltier of Elberta.
      A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at 10 a.m., from the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Robert Zimmer will officiate.
      Memorials may be made to the James Hickey Grandchildren Memorial Fund.

      WILLIAMSBURG - J. Ross (Julius R.) Bush, 94, formerly of Grosse Pointe Park, and dear father of Wesley R. Bush, died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, in Traverse City.
      Born Nov. 10, 1909, in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of Lewis D. and Louise (Miles) Bush. The Bush family moved to Detroit in 1927.
      Mr. Bush earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Wayne State University and did his graduate study at the University Laval in Quebec. He taught at Wilbur Wright High School (re-named Murray Wright) until his retirement.
      Mr. Bush served his country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II for 2˝ years.
      On July 24, 1948, he married the former Dorothea Schmidt, and together they resided in Grosse Pointe Park until moving to Williamsburg in 1999 to be near their son.
      Mr. Bush was a member of the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church for more than 50 years and was active in many church activities, including being an assistant to Dorothea during her five-year stint as a Sunday school teacher.
      He joined the Circumnavigators Club after he and Dorothea rounded the world. They visited a total of 39 countries.
      Mr. Bush was a life member of the Detroit Boat Club and the Grosse Pointe Senior Men's Club. He was also a member of the Founders Society of the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Fine Arts Society, the Grosse Pointe Symphony Society, the Grosse Pointe Historical Society, The English Speaking Union, and the University of Michigan and Wayne State University alumni clubs.
      Both he and Dorothea were ardent theatergoers, and enjoyed square, round and ballroom dancing, boating and playing bridge.
      Mr. Bush is survived by his son, Wesley R. (Teresa) Bush of Williamsburg; stepgranddaughters, Naomi Milks of Traverse City and Angela (Michael) McDougal of South Boardman; grandsons, Wesley R. Jr. and Julius R. II; a sister, Mrs. William (Kay) Baird of Texas; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea; and a brother, Milton W. Bush.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Tuesday, Dec. 30, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Homer Nye will be officiating. Entombment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

      George W. Druley Jr.
      Died December 26, 2003
      MANCELONA - George W. Druley Jr., 41, of Mancelona, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Custer Township, the result of an automobile accident.
      He was born June 7, 1962, in San Francisco, Calif., the son of George W. and Jane Druley Sr.
      George was a resident of Mancelona for the past eight months. Prior to moving to Mancelona, he had resided in Las Vegas for many years. He was employed as a cook for Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire.
      He is survived by three children, Candace L. Druley of Mancelona, Greggory Gaspa and Bryan Druley, both of Las Vegas; and his fianceé, Jacque Waltz of Mancelona.
      He is also survived by his father, George W. Druley Sr., and a sister, Geraldine Stephens, both of Las Vegas; a brother, Dorsey Druley of California; a nephew and one niece.
      He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane.
      Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with visitation from 5 p.m. until the time of services. Pastor Ross Corne will officiate.
      Vincent G. Herkner
      Died December 28, 2003
      TRAVERSE CITY - Vincent G. Herkner, 90, of Long Lake Township, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      A lifelong resident of Traverse City, he was born Jan. 10, 1913, on the family farm on Herkner Road. He was the son of Alfred and Carrie (Fewins) Herkner. On Sept. 30, 1931, he married the former Gladys P. North, who survives.
      Mr. Herkner was a lifelong farmer and avid hunter, and fisherman. He will be fondly remembered for being a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
      Survivors include his wife of over 72 devoted years, Gladys; daughters, Annette (Edward) Hardy, Laurene (Ron) Barnes and Betty Hardy, all of Traverse City; a brother, Leo (Betty) Herkner of Edenville; three sisters, Gertrude Swanson, Beatrice (Glenn) Lautner and Marie (Cletus) Lautner, all of Traverse City; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      Mr. Herkner was preceded in death by his three brothers, Percy, Gustaf and Ernest Herkner; two sisters, Dorothy Emmett and Sylvia Strohm; and a son-in-law, David Hardy.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, Dec. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Marvin Rosa will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
      Memorials may be directed to Munson Oncology or the Long Lake Fire Department.
      Gerald C. Radcliffe
      Died December 28, 2003
      TRAVERSE CITY - Gerald Calvin "Jerry" Radcliffe passed away Dec. 28, 2003, at home.
      Born March 22, 1926, in Traverse City, he was the son of John and Lavina (Milbert) Radcliffe.
      Jerry had been employed as a sheet metal worker for Home Heating, Climatron and Sheet Metal Worker's Union Local 7 prior to his retirement.
      He married Willa Joy Donkers on September 9, 1946, in Traverse City.
      Jerry loved the out-of-doors and camping, and took great pride in his yard. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and round dancing. They also enjoyed traveling together and had visited 49 of the 50 United States, as well as Canada and Mexico.
      Jerry is survived by his wife Joy; children, Roger (Martha) Radcliffe of Petoskey, and Sandra (John) Heilman of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Radcliffe-Jones, John Heilman III, Judy Radcliffe, Jeremy Heilman, Jody (Bryce) Kucharek, and Kimberly Heilman; his brothers, Albert (Berniece) Radcliffe of Traverse City and Wayne (Barbara) Radcliffe of Traverse City.
      He was preceded in death by his father, John; his mother, Lavina Radcliffe-Austin; his brothers, John and Arnold; and sister, Freda Radcliffe.
      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeremy Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.
      In remembrance of Jerry, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
