'RUDY' ISAACSON, 86, of Traverse City and formerly of Thompsonville, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Bortz Health Care following three months of failing health.Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva. Visitation will take place today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. EDNA MARIE KRUCZYNSKI, 85, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Arrangements are pending with the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. RICHARD D. 'RICK' LESLEY, 46, of Traverse City, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at his home. The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family. VIVIAN AGNES SHOMIN, 73, of Suttons Bay, went to meet her Maker on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons, Bay. MCBAIN - Robert E. "Bob" Abshire, 81, of McBain and formerly of Mesick, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Autumnwood of McBain. He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Harlem, Mich., to Nathan Earl and Martha E. (Kenberry) Abshire. Bob is survived by his two daughters, Rebecca Abshire of Chicago, Janet Hosit of Mesick, and his son, Jim (Linda) Abshire of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; four grandchildren; his two brothers, Willard (Gloria) Abshire of Freesoil, and John Abshire of Cedar Springs; sister-in-law, Virginia Abshire of Interlochen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Cleon Township Cemetery in Manistee County where a Military Graveside Service will be held in the spring. ELK RAPIDS - Walter Ernest Anderson Jr., 70, of Elk Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 2, 1932, in Central Lake, he was the son of Walter and Frances (Dawson) Anderson. On Jan. 2, 1953, Walter married Gloria Leach at the Newburg Methodist Church in Wayne. He lived in the Elk Rapids area his entire life except while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954. Walter was employed by the Super Tool Company in Elk Rapids from 1954 to 1979. From 1980 until his retirement in 1995, he was employed by the Village of Elk Rapids. He was a member of the Elk Rapids AMVETS Post #114, the Kalkaska American Legion Post #480, and the Masons North Star Lodge #354. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years, and woodworking, gardening and traveling throughout the country with his wife, Gloria. He spent much of his free time lending a helping hand to family and friends and he will be greatly missed. Walter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Anderson of Elk Rapids; the couple's three children, Madelyn (Douglas) Dail of Traverse City, Marcia (Richard) Metzger of East Grand Forks, Minn., and Donald (Jackie) Anderson of Rapid City; two brothers, Richard (Marilyn) Anderson of Medford, Wis., and Ronald (Susan) Anderson of Elk Rapids; six grandchildren and one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, with Dr. Daniel Herlein officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. During Walter's short struggle with cancer, he and his family were supported by the very caring and professional staff of Munson Hospice and by private caregivers. Arrangements by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. PESHAWBESTOWN - The Rev. Harry H. Johns Sr., 87, of Peshawbestown, died at his home Friday, Jan. 31, 2003. He was born April 3, 1916, in Northport to Amos and Alice (Wayashe) Johns, and was a proud member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. On July 3, 1938, Harry married Ida Mae Anderson in Elk Rapids. He was a semi-professional baseball player as a young man and was an avid lifelong supporter of the sport. Harry coached his daughters' All Indian Women's softball team. His true passion was serving God, and he also took great joy in being with his grandchildren. He is a retired pastor and member of the Kewadin Indian Mission Church. Harry is survived by his children, the Rev. Thomas (Phyllis) Johns of Kewadin, Harry (Carmen) Johns Jr. of Traverse City, Raymond (Myra) Johns of Central Lake, Cheryl (John) Kukla of Traverse City, Debra (Michael) Frankenberger of Traverse City, Connie Two Crow of Peshawbestown, Edward (Cindi) John of Northport, Catherine (Dion) Crowley of Peshawbestown and Gary (Carol) John of Traverse City. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; his sister, Evelyn (Clarence) Manitowash of Northport; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. Visitation was started Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2660 Beems-Kwa-Ma-Mikun and will continue through this evening. Friends may call at Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay on Monday, Feb. 3, from 1 to 9 p.m, where a Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City, with the Rev. KALKASKA - Kandis Tennesy Sam, was born Dec. 14, 2002, weighing 1lb.-9oz. She died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in her daddy's loving arms at Butterworth Hospital surrounded by her loving mother, Brandy, grandparents, Ralph and Connie Coon and caring nurses, Ruth Johnson and Jude Stover. She weighed 2lb.-10oz. Kandis is survived by her proud parents, Bryan and Brandy (Coon) Sam of Kalkaska; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Connie Coon; her maternal great-grandma, Betty Vowels of Kalkaska; and her paternal grandparents, Anthony and Debra Forrester of Interlochen. She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Kenneth Sam; her great-grandpa, Kenneth Vowels; and great-grandparents, Ralph and Barbara Coon and Louis and Vivian Gibbons. In the six weeks Kandis lived she touched many hearts and lives. Kandis will be greatly missed by her mommy and daddy. TRAVERSE CITY - Elaine E. Spence, 84, of Traverse City went to be with her Lord on Saturday morning at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Elaine was born the daughter of John and Ida (Addison) Fick on May 30, 1918, in Detroit. She later married Victor T. Spence on Aug. 3, 1946, in Detroit. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Elaine enjoyed riding horses when she was younger, gardening, and travel. Above all else she enjoyed her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Victor; her daughter, Maureen (Albert) Blossie of Traverse City; brother Elmer (Ann) Fick of Indian River; sister, Eleanor Mueller of Sun City, Calif.; and her granddaughter Heather (Mark) Bastedo of Saginaw. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harold Fick and her sister, Mildred Boyes. A funeral service will be held Monday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Robert Zagore will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School. TRAVERSE CITY - Leo F. Wagner, 84, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Born May 12, 1918, in Traverse City, he was the son of Louis and Bessie (Kellogg) Wagner. On Jan. 25, 1992, in Mapleton, Leo married Alice L. Usher Zeits. Leo worked for the Traverse City Regional State Hospital for many years as a truck driver. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, belonged to the VFW Cherryland Post #2780 and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid sports fan. Leo survived by his wife Alice; his daughter, Eleanor (Robert) McKay of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and his brother Clifford Wagner of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mable; and his sister, Gladys Winter. Pursuant to Leo's request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the Father Fred Foundation. Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family.
