Obituaries

RIO RANCHO, N.M. - Alfred E. "Al" Perrault, 81, a resident of Rio Rancho, N.M., and formerly of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003.
      Al and his family made their home in Traverse City from 1954 to 1966. They also returned to the area for summer vacations for years. He was a full partner in the Alpine Tool and Gauge Company, which was the first company that built in the then new industrial park in Traverse City. He spent his career working in specialty areas of the tool and die industry including aircraft and fiber optics.
      He enjoyed the outdoors, playing hockey and tennis, and was especially fond of fishing and sailing. Al was a member of the Grand Traverse Yacht Club and loved racing. He had a great sense of humor and he loved a good joke and making people laugh.
      Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty M. Perrault, 710 Eastlake Dr. SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124; daughter, Beverly A. Perrault of Rio Rancho, N.M., and son, Dennis E. Perrault of Albuquerque, N.M.; his sisters, Rita V. McInnis and Mary Grace Fowkes of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his sister, Vera L. Bogdanyi, and his brother, Charles B. Perrault.
      The family requests that memorial donations be directed to Vista Care Hospice, 5201 Venice Ave. NE, Suites A & B, Albuquerque, NM 87113, or to the charity of your choice.

      TRAVERSE CITY - George W. "Tad" King II, 63, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions following an extended illness due to complications after surgery.
      Born in Kalamazoo on May 10, 1939, Tad was the son of George W. and Dorothy (Brazee) King. He spent his childhood until fourth grade in Brooklyn, Mich. at which time he and his family moved to Jackson. Following his graduation from high school, Tad attended Jackson Business College and then the University of Michigan. On Aug. 21, 1960, he married the former Catherine A. Bell at Haven Methodist Church in Jackson.
      As a young man, Tad was employed as credit manager with the Jury Rowe Company in Jackson, sales administrator for Hayes Albion in Jackson, and regional sales manager for the A.E. Kayes Company in Columbus, Ohio. In 1970, Tad moved to Northern Michigan or, as he referred to it, "God's Country." He worked at Puffs in Petoskey and later worked for many years as a salesman and kitchen designer for Brown Lumber ABC in Traverse City. He left Brown Lumber to become part owner in the family restaurant, Cathie's Tote and Dine in Traverse City.
      He belonged to the Jackson's Men's Credit Association and the Arbor Hills Country Club in Jackson. He was an instructor for Dale Carnegie classes, a Junior Achievement advisor and worked with the Boy Scouts of America, having been a former scout himself. Tad possessed a genuine caring for young people.
      Tad was a devoted husband and father. He appreciated the natural beauty of his surroundings and loved the outdoors, Torch Lake and the wildlife. Tad enjoyed fishing, boating, good music, art, poetry and drawing as well as architecture, building and construction.
      Tad is survived by his wife, Cathie King; his sons, Bradley A. (Emi) King and Steven W. (Cindy) King, all of Traverse City, and his daughter, Katherine (Chris) Fink of Rhinelander, Wis.; grandchildren, Sierra Ayane King of Traverse City, Lt. Matthew (Diane) Tharp of Virginia Beach, Va., Sarah (Lt. Chris) Locher of Jacksonville, Fla., and Eddy A. and Wyatt A.R. Fink of Rhinelander, Wis.; his sisters, Julie (Jim) Washburn of Atlanta, Mich., and Priscilla (Joe) Camarillo of Poinciana, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; and by twin grandsons, Scout and Journey Fink.
      Cremation has taken place and, at Tad's request, the family is scheduling a memorial service to be celebrated on what would have been his 64th birthday, Saturday, May 10, 2003. The service will take place at 1 p.m. at the Lake View Cemetery overlooking Torch Lake on East Torch Lake Drive.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Antrim County Area on Aging in Bellaire, or to a charity of one's choice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      NORTHPORT - Robert S. Harper, age 82, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003.
      He was born in Akron, Ohio, on March 10, 1920, the son of Robert and Mabel (Sanford) Harper. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann (Hough) Harper, and by his sister, Jean Harper.
      Bob was retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he was employed as an account executive for 28 years. He married Vera Sue Higdon on Oct. 15, 1993.
      A former long-time resident of Grosse Pointe, he had resided in Northport for 10 years and Omena Pointe for 10 years prior to that. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, he was also a former member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary-Power Squadron. An avid boater for many years, Mr. Harper had belonged to the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and the Omena Traverse Yacht Club. He was a member of the Northport Village Voices, the Lion's Club, the Northport Pilots Association and was very active in Northport community events.
      Bob is survived by his wife Vera (Higdon) Harper; three sons, Hugh, Bruce (Nicolette) and John Harper; and by five grandchildren, Winston Harper, Gillian (Brian) Ice, Matthew Harper, and Brian and Stephanie Harper.
      Cremation has taken place and a memorial service commemorating his life will be held in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Northport Public Library or to the Northport Village Voices.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Sherman E. Davis, 77, of Traverse City, died Wednesday morning at Munson Medical Center.
      He was born the son of Robert and Florence (South) Davis on Jan. 6, 1926, in Marion, Ill. He later married Wenda Osolin, who survives. Sherman enjoyed camping, fishing and loved spending time with family.
      Sherman is survived by his children, Frances I. Ralston of Traverse City, Brenda K. Parson (Mark Hadley) of Traverse City, Linda L. (Scott) Pease of Virginia, Joseph M. Davis of Traverse City, Cynthia M. Davis of Traverse City and Charles L. (Shane) Davis of Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
      He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Floyd and Everette.
      A gathering of family and friends was held Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
     
      DOROTHY J. 'DOTTIE' BUCHAN, 74, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003.
      A full obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are pending and have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      DOROTHY GRIFFITH, 99, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at her home.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
      ANNE F. KOCHANS, 87, of Frankfort, died Friday morning, Feb. 7, 2003, at her home.
      Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The Oak Grove Cremation Center served the family.
