July 6, 2003ObituairesNEW CARLISLE, Ind. - Lillian H. Wiederoder, 96, of Miami died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Hamilton Grove Communities, New Carlisle, Ind.Born Aug. 18, 1906, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Edward W. and Lillian Katherine (Okrie) Miller. In 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, she married Val F. Wiederoder, who preceded her in death. Lillian had been a department manager at Parke-Davis in Detroit. Together with her husband, they owned and operated a grocery store business at Bowers Harbor on Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City for 25 years before retiring in 1970. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Beverly J. (Forrest) Schavey of LaPorte, Ind.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Lillian in death were her two brothers, Edward and Leonard Miller. A graveside service will be held in Ogdensburg Cemetery on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD. 20871-1950. Arrangements are being handled by Cutler Funeral Home in LaPorte, Ind., and Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. LONG LAKE TOWNSHIP - Carl Skiver, 88, died peacefully after a brief illness, on Wednesday, July 2, 3003, at Munson Medical Center, while surrounded by his family, whom he loved very much. Carl was born Dec. 20, 1914, in Long Lake Township, where he lived his entire life. He was the son of the late Thomas and Lottie (Wares) Skiver. On Sept. 14, 1938, Carl married the former Irene Lautner, his wife of 64 years, who survives. Carl retired in 1974 from the Traverse City State Hospital after 35 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, camping, four-wheeling and being with his family. Carl is also survived by three loving children, Ila (Larry) Stowe, Gertrude (Terry) Ritola and Allen (Alexis) Skiver, all of Traverse City; two extended family members, Glenn and Eeva Peroceshi of Traverse City; a son-in-law, Ray Waslawski of Traverse City; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Lautner and Florence Axtel, both of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, June Waslawski; an infant son, Leroy; three sisters, Thelma Haywood, Goldie Kingdon and Viola Meike; and two brothers, Francis Skiver and Vern Skiver. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, at Long Lake Friends Church. The Rev. Marvin Rosa will officiate. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Township. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions may be directed to Long Lake Friends Church or the Long Lake Township Fire Dept. BORGERSON, 93, of Higgins Lake, formerly of Grayling, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Hilltop Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 7, at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Township Cemetery. JAMES C. MORRISON, 81, of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. LUCILLE MOTT, 77, of Kalkaska died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Visitation will be today, July 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, and will continue on Monday from 1 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Algonac. A full obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle. HELEN MARY TOPOREK, 72, of Kalkaska, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at her home. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday, July 7, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
