Obituaries

ANITA G. (SALENSKI) BIRGY, 88, of Kalkaska, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, June 14, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, with a scripture service at 7 p.m.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Fife Lake.
      A full obituary will appear in Monday's Record-Eagle.
     
      WILLIAM KAISER, 78, of Kewadin, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Elk Rapids.
      Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 15, at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services.
      Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids.
     
      JACK WILLIAM LIGHT, 69, died April 15, 2003.
      Please join the family for a celebration of Jack's life on Saturday, July 19. The gathering will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 1231 Hastings, Traverse City.
     
      RICHARD F. WOODWARD, 86, of Zanesville, Ind., and a summer resident of Lake Leelanau, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Myers Funeral Home in Markle, Ind.
     
      GOODRICH - Olivia A. Minger, age 3 years, of Goodrich, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
      Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, at Fenton United Methodist Church, 119 S. Leroy, Fenton. Interment will follow in Goodrich Cemetery.
      The family will receive visitors from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw, Grand Blanc. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Johns Hopkins PICU, or Johns Hopkins Children's House.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Anna Mae Snow, 90, of Traverse City, died peacefully Friday morning, July 11, 2003, at Cherry Hill Haven.
      Born May 27, 1913, in Honor, she was the daughter of Herman Leo and Julia (McClain) Baatz.
      Anna was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Rebekah Lodge, both of Traverse City. She was employed by the State of Michigan at the Traverse City State Hospital, working as a licensed practical nurse and floor supervisor.
      Survivors include her two daughters and two sons, Virginia Andresen of Traverse City, Julia Eager of Alma, William "Don" Snow of Mobile, Ala., and Richard Snow of Adrian; a sister, Olive Lillie of Honor; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Mary Clous; a special nephew, Floyd Lillie; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
      Anna was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Andy Andresen and Clarence Eager; and seven brothers and a sister, Leo, Edward, Oscar, Orrin, Albert, Ralph, Lillian and Arthur.
      Memorial services will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Monday, July 14, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bradley Will officiating.
      Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.
      In remembrance of Anna, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
      A special thank you from the Snow family is extended to the staff of Cherry Hill Haven for the wonderful, loving care given to Anna during her time of illness.
     
      ALPENA - David E. Andrews Jr., of Alpena, died at home on July 4, 2003, in the late afternoon as he was preparing to go downtown and enjoy the fireworks celebrations.
      Dave was preceded in death by his mother and father, David Edward Andrews and Mabel Elvira (Diver) of Detroit.
      Dave was a fifth generation Detroiter, where his family lived for 140 years. He served in the Pacific during World War II on the USS Grand Canyon (AD-36). He later attended Michigan State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi.
      Upon his retirement in 1976, Dave moved to Alpena where he was active in the Lions Club; he served as club president from 1992-93, and district governor 11-E2 Lions of Michigan from 1994-95. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for services to Lions International in March 1994. He was also past president of the Alpena Shriners Club during 1997, and a member of Alpena Hopper Lodge 199.
      Dave is survived by his daughter, Dawn Renschen and Paul of Fairbanks, Alaska; son, David III and Janice (Nixon) of Traverse City; son, Wendell Gilbert and Wendy (Eurich) of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Amy Gaffron and Eric of St. Louis, Mo.; his former wife of 38 years, Carol Jo Weigand (Phillips) of New Bern, N.C.; and nine grandchildren; He is also survived by childhood friend and business partner, Richard Owen of Empire.
      There will be a brief service of remembrance, followed by lunch, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, at First Congregational Church, 201 S. Second Ave., Alpena.
