BROWN, also of Northport, died Nov. 20, 1997. They will be interred together during graveside services to be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 21, in Leelanau Township Cemetery, Northport. EMMETT A. BURLEY, 91, of Mancelona, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 16, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, where the family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. JOYCETTA MARIE HARTING, 62, of Thompsonville, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at home. Cremation will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Manistee. There will be a private service at the family home. The family is being served by Oak Grove Cremation Center. LORI LINDA LYSETT, 55, of Traverse City, died at home on Friday, June 13, 2003, after an extended illness. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time. The funeral Mass for HENRY SMITH, who died January 18, 2003, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mapleton. The Rev. James Hayden will celebrate the Mass. LOLITA STAFFORD 'LO' VEENSTRA, 82, of Traverse City, died recently at home. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. RICHARD S. 'RICH' WERTZ, 46, of Alpena, formerly of Traverse City, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003. A casual celebration of Rich's life will be at 4 p.m., Friday, June 20, at the Wertz home, 420 West Mirre St., Alpena. SURPRISE, Ariz. - Henry J. Gelm II, 68, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Traverse City, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on June 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Henry J. Gelm Sr. and Grace Gelm. Henry was also preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Henry Gelm; and his sister, Carol Gelm. Henry is survived by his wife, Betty Monas Gelm; a daughter, Joy Sell of Traverse City; a son, William J. Gelm; stepdaughters, Debi (Roger) Rozinski and Diane Monas; seven grandchildren, Aaron Gelm, Krista Lynn Sell, Ryan Sell, Matthew Sell, Tina Gnadt, Tammy Mitchell, Mia Wiggus and Marcy Jordan; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Dick (June) Gelm, Joe (Peg) Gelm and Paul Gelm; a sister, Lynn (Joe) Dekleva; and many nieces and nephews. TRAVERSE CITY - Evelyn May (Brown) Adams, 71, of Traverse City, went to be with her Lord Jesus Wednesday evening, June 4, 2003. Evelyn showed stoic courage and strength as she briefly battled pancreatic cancer for only the past several weeks. She wished that her remains be cremated immediately. Evelyn was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Ishpeming, the daughter of Gretta Leslie and Isaac Harolde Brown, recently of Indian River. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, and worked for Ford Motor Co. in the payroll department for several years. She was most recently employed at Milliken's Department Store in Traverse City. A loving mother, Evelyn is survived by Mike (Deb) Adams of Bingham Farms, Jan (Gerry) Burke of Beverly Hills, Jeff (Heather) Adams of Greenwood Village, Colo., and Amy (Matt) Russell of Bay Village, Ohio. Evelyn was the proud grandmother of twelve and each was her "favorite one." Evelyn's brother, Ralph Brown of Albuquerque, N.M., also passed away from cancer in recent years. She is survived by a sister, Molly (Brown) Craig of Colorado Springs, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews. Forever remembered for her loyalty and creativity, Evelyn passionately loved her family, countless northern Michigan and metro Detroit area friends, dining out, gardening, sewing, knitting, long drives in the country, crossword puzzles and Fox News with Bill O'Reilly. A celebration of Evelyn's life and scattering of her ashes will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 1, at her favorite Boardman River bridge. For those needing directions or transportation, a caravan will leave from Willow Cove Condominiums at 11:40 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. respectively. BEULAH - Pearl H. Mahoney, 66, of Beulah, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Pearl was born Nov. 23, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Charles E. Lewis Sr., and Myrtle (McPherson). Pearl lived most of her life in the Traverse City area. She was a 1955 graduate of Traverse City High School, and a former employee of Munson Hospital, where she was unit clerk in the Oncology Department. Pearl loved life, enjoyed being around people and was a social butterfly living life to the fullest. She had a true knack for turning a negative situation into something positive. Pearl traveled to many areas of North America in her RV. She spent hours on the Internet, worked with crafts and loved the sound of rain. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Benzonia. Pearl is survived by her beloved husband, Adam; three children, Gary (Christine) Allen of Leland, N.C., Brenda Gail (Richard) Gross and Jason Stone Allen, both of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Jeremiah Rapmond and Renee Ryherd; three great-grandsons, Ethan, Jacob and James Ryherd Jr.; and a brother, Edward (Sandy) Lewis of Traverse City. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, June 16, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. After cremation takes place, burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church of Benzonia. BINGHAM TOWNSHIP - Cindy Nielsen of Bingham Township was born in St. Clair Shores on Oct. 25, 1956, to Delores and Donald Manning. She was the love of our lives. Cindy, Cin, Mama, Missy-Girl, believed in love and lived a full life in a short amount of time. She loved nature, photography, the Manistee River, and playing Frisbee in the sun. She was obsessed with buying knickknacks, decorating and reorganizing her already organized home. She loved flowers, gardening, candles, a good laugh and a glass of wine in good company. She was a hopeless romantic who loved the opportunity to spend time with her husband. She loved her children, her family, and bound all things together with her everlasting spirit. Cin was a loving wife, devoted mother, dear daughter, formidable sister, nurturing aunt and caring friend. Mom, known as "the general," ruled the house with an iron finger and a green thumb. She was a "self-starter" and a "you-finisher." She was vibrant, animated, ageless and supportive. She was a dedicated Munson Medical Center employee of more than 23 years. She had a warm, welcoming smile that will be remembered by everyone she touched. Cindy is survived by her husband, Robert, of 26 years; their two children, Ryan and Dana "Dana Doo"; her mother, Delores Manning (Ohlrich); and two brothers, Gary Manning and his two children, and Kevin. Cindy is also survived by her other mother, Isabell Nielsen; her other brothers and sisters, Tim and Emily Nielsen, Kristi and James Romano, Tori Nielsen, and their combined eleven children; and all of her unfinished projects. FERNDALE - Terry Lee Seaholm, 53, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, lost his courageous five-year battle with cancer, at home, surrounded by family and friends. He will be greatly missed for his humor, friendship, loyalty and artistic talent. Heartfelt thanks to all who shared in his life endeavors and adventures, and to all those who made it possible for Terry to live and work his final months in the comfort of his home. Son of the late Robert "Terry" Seaholm, Terry is survived by his mother, Patricia Seaholm Henry; brothers, Sven-Erik Seaholm and Jeff Derr; sisters, Colette Lawler and Kathy Robinson; nieces, nephews and grandnephews. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Michigan. NORTHVILLE - Donald Archie McMillan, 82, of Traverse City, passed away June 12, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Joan Cotton. He was born March 27, 1921, in Flint, the son of Archie and Verna (Hyatt) McMillan. Helen Louise (Taylor) McMillan, his wife of 58 years, preceded him in death in 2001. Don is survived by three daughters, Joan (James) Cotton of Northville, Margaret (Robert) Murrow of Los Gatos, Calif., and Nancy McMillan of Westland; and a son, Donald A. (Linda) McMillan Jr. of Sinking Spring, Pa. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Chivis, Amy (Shawn) Ladd, Sara (Brian) Seggie, James Cotton III, Lori (Erik) Hudson, Rebecca Murrow, Scott and Brian McMillan; and great-grandchildren, Lindsey Cotton-Tate, Luke Ladd and Jack Hudson. Don graduated from Flint Central High School in 1939, and the University of Michigan School of Engineering in 1943. He worked as an engineer at Buick Motor Division in Flint, and owned and operated Helfrecht Machine Co. in Saginaw and Traverse City before retiring in 1984. He was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, a member of Saginaw Lodge 77, a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason and a life member of the Elf Khurafeh Temple of Saginaw. He was also a longtime member of the Saginaw Bay Power Squadron, University of Michigan Alumni Association, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, American Radio Relay League and the Cherryland Amateur Radio Club. He was co-founder of the Northern Lights of Michigan Chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association, a member of the Grand Traverse Rock and Mineral Club and board member of Grand Traverse Art Center. He was also an avid sailor and member of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club for many years. Don will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will he held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 17, at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster. The Rev. Becky Chamberlain will officiate. There will also be a short memorial service at noon on Wednesday, June 18, in Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Road, Flint. The Rev. Mark Raitz will officiate. "That'll do for now - K8KWG signing off." Helen E. (Chappel) Stauffer KINGSLEY - On this day, her prayer was answered and she went to heaven in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior. A lifetime resident of Kingsley, Helen was born June 16, 1911. On Dec. 2, 1933, she married C. Vernol Stauffer, who went ahead to homestead a place in God's house for them. Helen was also greeted by her brother, Keith Chappel, and grandson, Gerard (Jerry) Rouse. Left behind are daughters, Betty (Arthur) Rouse Sr. and Verna (John) Woodcox; sisters, Julia Swainston, Phyllis (Gene) Bembeneck and Nancy (Patric) Yanski; brothers, Darrel (Anne) Chappel, Blaine Chappel and Noble (Nancy) Chappel; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Helen was past grand marshal of the Otto Rebekah Lodge 474 in Kingsley; She enjoyed reading, caring for her family and making baby quilts for her grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 17, at Kingsley United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member.
