March 23, 2003ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - On Saturday morning, March 22, 2003, our cherished mother, beloved sister, devoted wife, revered grandmother, noble daughter, loyal friend, radiant great-grandmother and mentor went on her final journey home. She enriched the lives of all of us.Ellenore Josephine Kent was born Sept. 22, 1922, to Mary Burdella and Neil Trad in Highland Park. In 1943, she married Richard Kent, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1993. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a good friend and devoted wife. She worked for many years as a secretary. She was a member of Leland United Methodist Church. She spent many hours volunteering through RSVP. Ellenore and Richard moved to the Traverse City area in 1987. Her husband and her sister, Ruth Burke, preceded her in death. Ellenore is survived by two daughters, JoEllen (John) Evans and Judie (James) Thompson; six grandchildren, Andy (Theresa) Evans, Jeremy Evans, Jessica (Paul) Krause, Marcus (Jamie) Evans, Jannah Thompson and Janelle Thompson; and six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Leland United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24. Ellenore's son-in-law, the Rev. James Thompson, and the Rev. Joseph Graybill will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Leland United Methodist Church in Leland. TRAVERSE CITY - William Francis Alandt, 77, of Traverse City and formerly of Detroit, died Friday at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born Sept. 27, 1925, in River Rouge, he was the son of George and Mabel (Roberts) Alandt. On Sept. 2, 1960, in Dearborn, he married the former Florie Houques-Fourcade. Mr. Alandt was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge. He later attended the University of Detroit and received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Mr. Alandt was employed for 35 years as a chemist and consultant at Detrex Corp. of Southfield. He was a devout Catholic. Mr. Alandt was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a passionate gardener, a lifelong bridge player, a wonderful cook and an avid follower of the Detroit Red Wings. Along with his wife, Florie, he is survived by his three sons, Mark (Vickie) Alandt of Traverse City, Eric (Arin) Alandt of Interlochen, and Jeffrey (Kathleen) Alandt of Traverse City; a daughter, Cristine (Fred Robb) Alandt of Traverse City; five grandchildren, Sarah Granstra, Ronnie Granstra, Joey Richards, Crystal Poulisse and Taea Alandt; brothers, Robert Alandt of Los Osos, Calif., Clarence (Glory) Alandt of Farmington Hills, and Frank (Katherine) Alandt of Northville; sisters, Marie (Delbert) Thibert of Wyandotte, and Julie (Gilbert) Brett of Riverview; sisters in-law, Patricia Alandt of Grosse Pointe Woods, and Lola Alandt of Boynton Beach, Fla. Mr. Alandt was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Amelia Alandt; and brothers, Norman Alandt, Clayton Alandt and George Alandt. A private memorial service is planned. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation of Traverse City, or to the Southwest Indian Foundation, P.O. Box 86, Gallup, NM 87302. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. HAROLD R. FAVREAU, 91, of Traverse City, died Friday, March 21, 2003. The family is being assisted by the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. WILLIAM J. VEENSTRA, 77, of Traverse City, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at Munson Medical Center. Private family services are being planned. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
