TRAVERSE CITY - Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Eveleigh, 48, of Traverse City and Cadillac, died Friday at Munson Medical Center.
      Born March 7, 1955 in Mason, he was the son of Robert V. and Edna E. (Williams) Eveleigh.
      Jerry grew up in Lansing and lived most of his life in the Detroit area. He relocated to the Traverse City/Cadillac area in 1998. Jerry enjoyed the northern Michigan outdoor lifestyle. He also enjoyed family and easily made friends wherever he traveled.
      Survivors include his mother, Edna; his sister, Patricia (Dennis) Heikkinen of Stephenson; brothers, Frederick (Linda) Eveleigh of Rudyard, Robert (Mary) Eveleigh of Charlevoix, Randall Eveleigh of Berkeley, Calif., and Steven (Cindy) Eveleigh of Traverse City; and eight nieces and two nephews.
      Jerry was preceded in death by his father.
      Visitation will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.
      Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Gary Hogue will officiate.
      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Gerald Eveleigh memorial fund.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Wheatley Neuman "Skip" Hemmick IV, 54, of Traverse City, died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at his home.
      Skip was born Jan. 5, 1949 in Long Island City, N.Y., the son of Anne (Jirak) and Captain Wheatley Neuman "Mike" Hemmick III. Captain Hemmick was a Merchant Marine ship's captain and Great Lakes shipping consultant who helped establish the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City and served as its first director.
      Skip earned his bachelor of science degree from Michigan State University and had been employed throughout the state in the Fisheries Division of the DNR. He also worked as an independent marine consultant and as lab chemist for The Traverse Group. Skip worked on the Boardman River restoration in its early years, helping to create the parks and trails along the river, and on projects to control erosion along the riverbanks. He was very proud of the accomplishments that helped to secure the future of the river.
      Skip's love of the outdoors and his concern for natural and wildlife resources led him to memberships in Ducks Unlimited and Trout Unlimited. He was also an associate member of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy Alumni Association and a qualified NRA hunter safety instructor.
      An avid hunter and fisherman, Skip made his own fly rods, tied flies and made lures. He also enjoyed the study of history, especially that of the Civil War.
      Survivors include his mother, Anne Hemmick of Traverse City; his sisters, Pam (Christ) Tober of Pasadena, Calif., Kim (Richard) Plahna of Interlochen; his nieces and nephews, Juliana Ekong of New York City, Eno (Hillard) Smith of Pasadena, Calif., Melonie (Mike) Callaghan of Traverse City and Michael (Lori) Steffes of Kalkaska; his great-nephews, Seamus and Joshua; an uncle, Milton Jirak; three cousins, Paula, Roy, Neysa and their families, all of New York City; and his special companion and dog, Shane. Skip is much loved and will be dearly missed.
      Private family services will be held at a later date.

      FRANKFORT - Albert Edward Clark, 62, of Frankfort, passed away March 26, 2003, at his home in Joyfield Township. He was born June 2, 1940, in Benzonia, the son of Arthur E. and Margaret I. (Long) Clark.
      Albert lived most of his life in the Benzie area, except for a short time when he and his wife, Doris, lived in Defiance, Ohio. Albert was a graduate of Benzonia High School, where he had been active in Future Farmers of America. After graduating, Albert went to work for Walter L. Heath Appliance in Benzonia, where he worked until he joined the military in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1965. Afterward, he had many ventures including a cleaning business, building with his brother-in-law, and the purchase of Harris Superette south of Benzonia. Albert had also worked for the Mitchell Corporation in the maintenance department for several years, after which he started Clark Builders.
      Albert was a member of the Lighthouse Chapel Church of God in Benzonia, where he evolved as a Christian. In his spare time, Albert loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, being outdoors and working with his hands.
      In Beulah, on Nov. 27, 1965, Albert married Doris Faith Kinney, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Dayna (Steve) Ginter of Frankfort; his son, John (Barb) Clark of Honor; granddaughter, Sarah Clark - "Doughnut," as he liked to call her; a brother, Edison (Jeanne) Kagey of Beulah, Colo.; two sisters, Rosemary (Donald) Tanner of Elberta and Linda (Harold) Saffron of Honor; his pal, "Conrad," who he used to baby-sit from time to time; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Albert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jeanet Kagey and Joan Kagey Coggins; a brother, Allen Kagey; and a nephew, Joshua D. Wiggins.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with the Rev. Elmer J. Polk officiating.
      Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
      Interment will be in Joyfield Township Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Lighthouse Chapel Church of God in Benzonia. Envelopes are available at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
     
      SUTTONS BAY - Lucy A. Knight DeNoyer died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Munson Medical Center.
      She was born in Grand Traverse County to Lucas H. And Dora M. (Srackangast) Knight. Lucy married James A. DeNoyer and they made their home in the Leelanau County area after living for awhile near Lansing and Mt. Pleasant from 1984 until 1996.
      Lucy grew up on a farm near Kingsley and graduated from Forest area schools. She also graduated from Northwestern Michigan College with an associate of arts degree, Ferris State University with a bachelor's degree in social services, and began her master's degree in social work at Michigan State University, but transferred to the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and graduated with a juris doctorate degree. Lucy belonged to the Michigan State Bar Association, practicing law in Mt. Pleasant and Traverse City as a sole practitioner. She served on two committees with the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association. Lucy was a longtime employee of the State of Michigan, working at the Traverse City Regional Psychiatric Hospital, for a short time at the Lansing central office, and also at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center in community services and client forensic education.
      Lucy had a number of hobbies and particularly enjoyed music, having played and taught organ and piano. She was active in school and church choir music for some time. Lucy played in her parents' band as a child and in area bands in various places of entertainment as an adult. She had a great love of animals.
      Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Lucas H. And Dora M. Knight, as well as a brother, ElJay, who died in infancy.
      She is survived by her husband, Jim; by three children, Laurel A. (Michael) Marotta of Albuquerque, N.M., Andrew M. DeNoyer of Suttons Bay, and Joseph A. (Susan) DeNoyer of England; and one granddaughter, Selene A. Marotta, who she loved very much. Also surviving is her former daughter-in-law, Cindy DeNoyer of Cadillac; her brothers and sisters, Bonnie (Dick) Deo and Alfred (Nadine) Knight, all of Kingsley, Eleanor (Ralph) Wasson of DeWitt, Linda (John) Luotonen of Sterling Heights and John Knight of Princeton, Texas; and aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Fred Korb of Traverse City.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Sunday, April 13, from 5 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
      A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14. The Rev. James Gardiner will serve as celebrant.
      Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Suttons Bay.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society, Munson Hospice, or St. Francis Catholic Church.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Regina Sharnowski, 93, of Traverse City, died Friday at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born in Cedar on Aug. 14, 1909, Regina lived in Muskegon 40 years before moving back to the Traverse City area in 1984. While living in Muskegon, she was employed by Norge Refrigeration Company.
      Regina liked to read the newspaper and magazines to keep up with daily current events, and also enjoyed watching her favorite game shows on television. For homebound residents at Riverview, Regina volunteered her time to deliver food trays.
      Regina Sharnowski is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Maximilia of Livonia, and many nieces and nephews.
      Preceding her in death were her parents, Ignatius and Mary (Skeba) Sharnowski; ten brothers, Andrew, Peter, Frank, Paul, Ted, Leon, Joseph, Alex, Bernard and John; and four sisters, Anastasia Morio, Mary Zielinski, Frances Rice and Matilda Sharnowski.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cedar, with the Rev. Walter Anthony, celebrant.
      Visitation will be on Monday, March 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, and will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
      Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar.
      Memorials may be directed to Holy Rosary Catholic Church through Covell Funeral Home.
     
      JOANNE FRANCES JARVIS, 64, of Bear Lake, formerly of Royal Oak, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at home.
      A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Copemish, with the Rev. Richard Kosterman, celebrant.
      Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
      Interment will be in Maple Grove Township Cemetery.
      The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements.
     
      LISA ANN PHILLIPS, 37, of Grayling, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 31, at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services.
     
      GERMAINE M. RUTOWSKI, 86, of Filer City, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
      Visitation will be on Monday, March 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, where an evening prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
      A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee.
      Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Manistee.
