TRAVERSE CITY - Christopher Scott Wood, 50, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, as the result of an airplane accident.

Chris grew up in Bloomington, Ill., graduating in 1976 from Illinois State University with a bachelor of science degree in geology and a master's degree in geological engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1978. He worked his entire professional life as a production and design engineer in the oil and gas industry for Northern Illinois Gas, Amoco and West Bay Exploration in Traverse City, as an independent consulting engineer. Chris took professional pride in his safety record for the facilities he designed and the benefit they brought to the communities where they were located.
He married the former Kathryn "Kate" Marsh in Bloomington, Ill., in 1975, and they permanently relocated to the Traverse City area in 1980. Their children, Eric Edward and Erin Marie Wood, were raised in this wonderful community. He loved the time he spent with his children, coaching girls and boys basketball in 5th and 6th grades, volunteering in scouts, PTO and other school and social activities over the years.
