Obituaries

      MARVIN J. O'BRIEN, 74, of Traverse City died at home Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, surrounded by his loving family.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at St. Francis Catholic Church where a Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.
      Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the church.
      Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      A full obituary will appear in the Monday edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family.
     
      BLANCHE ELLEN MILLER, 68, of Onekama, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at her home.
      A memorial mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Onekama with Fr. Michael Conner celebrant.
      The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at Terwilliger Funeral Home, Kaleva.

      DOROTHY J. BICKLE, 85, of Traverse City, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, in Traverse City.
      A complete obituary with visitation and service times will appear in the Monday Record-Eagle.
     
      SUTTONS BAY - Bennie Joseph Morio, a friend to all, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Bennie died from complications of an automobile accident and failure to wear his seat belt.
      Bennie was born in the granary at the Morio farm, in the late fall of 1922, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Eckerle) Morio. At 2-1/2 pounds he was and continues to be one of God's greatest miracles. He lived a full and rewarding life, spending his days cutting wood, preparing for the change of seasons and helping others always cheerfully and with diligence. Bennie was the "Grandpa" in the window who greeted school children each morning with a wave and a smile. A happy man who loved to rake leaves and plow snow. A man of good spirit and heart.
      Bennie was a regular participant of St. Mary's Church in Lake Leelanau, religious in prayer and support.
      A farmer, a hunter, a cherry picker and grower, his care and compassion touched the lives of many. God favored him that he suffered not.
      Preceded in death by his mother and father, a sister JoAnn (Dufoe-Hernacki) Morio, and a brother Lawerence Charles Morio.
      Survived by his sister Louise Alveraz, sister-in–law Catherine (Bryan) Morio, nephews: Leon Alveraz, Eddie Alveraz, Gerry Dufoe, Joseph William Morio, nieces Margret Mary Striker, Christene Morio, Rita Marie Kaczmarek and long time friend and companion Catherine F. Allchin and family.
      Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
      A funeral mass will be said at noon Tuesday, Nov. 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Jerry Hunko officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Suttons Bay.
      Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's School or the Suttons Bay Rescue Squad.
     
      BELLAIRE - Abbie K. Kucsera died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire after a lengthy illness.
      She was born March 14, 1916, in Pontiac, the daughter of Walter G. Kent and Mamie Szekrak.
      Abbie was the county and movie editor for the Oakland Press newspaper (then the Pontiac Press) in Pontiac, for 15 years before retiring in 1960.
      Following retirement, she continued to write for other newspapers and magazines.
      She is survived by her son Carl (Carolyn) of Traverse City; a brother Ed Kent; grandchildren Heather Klaiber (Dave) and Casey Kucsera (Julie); and great grandchildren Jacob and Kathryn.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 1981 and her daughter, Lorraine Kucsera in 1987.
      Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, 23720 Farmington Road, downtown Farmington, (248) 474-5200.
      Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
      Burial will follow in Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, Novi.
     
      CROTON, Mich. - Mr. Albert L. Moore, Sr., age 58, passed away on Friday morning, Nov. 7, 2003, at his residence.
      Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at the Kroeze Funeral Home, 637 E Main St., Fremont, MI. (231) 924-2130. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - James A. Hunter, 85, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born Oct. 25, 1918, in Chicago, he was the son of James A. and Lillian K. (Koenitzer) Hunter Sr. On May 8, 1948, in Wauwatosa, Wis., he married the former Ruth E. Gass, who survives.
      Formerly of Milwaukee and Waukesha, Wis., Chicago and Birmingham, Mr. Hunter had been a resident of the Traverse City area for the past 20 years. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy.
      Jim retired as a project engineer from the GMC Truck and Coach Division of General Motors Corp.
      Mr. Hunter was a member of First Congregational Church in Traverse City, past master and life member of Birmingham Lodge #44 F&AM, and past president and secretary of the Cherryland High Twelve Club #400. He was very involved with the Traverse Area District Library, serving as past member of the Board of Trustees, volunteered for Adult Services, and along with his wife and other couples, co-founded Friends of the Traverse Area District Library.
      Along with his wife, Ruth, Jim is also survived by his two daughters, Jane E. Hunter of South Portland, Maine, and Phoebe A. Hunter of Burnstown, Ontario, Canada.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret.
      Memorial services will be held at the First Congregational Church on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Burton Erickson officiating. Cremation has taken place and his final resting place will be in the Garden of Remembrance at the First Congregational Church.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Grand Traverse Area District Library, the Traverse Symphony Orchestra or WIAA Radio in Interlochen.
      The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of Grand Traverse Pavilions (Cherry Wing) for the excellent care and compassion they extended to James A. Hunter.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
