Obituaries

      TRAVERSE CITY - Robert Hugh Musser, 75, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      He was born on June 28, 1928, in Royal Oak, the son of Lawson and Winifred (McHugh) Musser. He married the former M. June Eggeling in Traverse City on Jan. 20, 1978.
      Robert moved to Traverse City in the late '50s as a ski instructor and local ski shop manager.
      He loved woodworking, travel, downhill skiing, antique cars and model trains.
      Robert was a life member of the Traverse City Elks Lodge, along with memberships in the Traverse City Eagles and the Cadillac Moose Lodge.
      He is survived by his wife, June, and was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
      Per his request, cremation has taken place.
      A memorial service will take place on Monday Nov. 17, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Traverse City Elks Lodge.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Michigan Elks Major Project, P.O. Box 620, Lawton, MI 49065, or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
      A very special thanks to the Munson ICU and E-2 staff for the great compassion and care that was given Bob, and that he was treated with dignity.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Carl W. Martin, 93, a retired painter from Traverse City, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      He was born on March 5, 1910, in Traverse City, the son of Harvey and Katherine (King) Martin. On Sept. 10, 1966, in Traverse City, he married the former Doris Marilyn Keene, who survives.
      Carl was a member and business agent of Local #1662 and was also a longtime member of the Traverse City Eagles Club. He served his country honorably with the United States Coast Guard. As his hobbies he enjoyed NASCAR racing, watching football and the special time he spent with his grandchildren.
      In addition to his wife of 37 years, Doris, he is also survived by his children, Cheryl (Charles) Burnett of Kingwood, Texas, Karl (Kathleen) Dewar of Moorhead, Minn., Thomas Dewar of Traverse City, Dr. William (Susan) Dewar of Baring, Maine, Candace (Mark) Golden of Traverse City, Katherine (Steven) Konsella of Rapid City; and 16 grandchildren, Alex, Erika, Sasha, Matthew, Christopher, Seth, Thomas, Vern, Justin, Aerianna, McKenzie, Max, Steven, Kassandra, Nicholas and Christian.
      He was preceded in death by a son; two grandchildren, Emily and Brittany; and his brothers and sisters.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home Sunday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.
      Memorial services will be at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Patrick Maher officiating.
      In remembrance of Carl, memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
     
      BEULAH - Harlow Cyrus Adams, 90, of Beulah, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at The Maples–Benzie County Medical Care Facility in Frankfort.
      He was born June 22, 1913, in Beulah, the son of Cyrus and Ella (Fitts) Adams.
      Harlow had been a cherry grower throughout his life and was a member of Herring Lake Baptist Church. In his spare time, Harlow enjoyed hunting and fishing.
      On May 25, 1947, in Clare County, Harlow married Gladys M. Saul, who survives.
      He is also survived by two sons, Richard (Darlene) Adams of Ypsilanti and Kenneth (Sue) Adams of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
      Harlow was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Floyd Adams; and a sister during infancy.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Pastors Gary Coleman and Robert McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery.
      Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., today, Nov. 14, at the funeral home.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Herring Lake Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes are available at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
     
      INTERLOCHEN - Robert Frank Elsenheimer, 77, of Interlochen, died Wednesday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born Oct. 6, 1926, in Traverse City, he was the son of Jacob and Mary (Miller) Elsenheimer. He was a 1944 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and served with the United States Army Air Force during World War II.
      Over the years Bob worked at the Traverse City dairy, worked in sales for the Lipton Tea Company for 17 years, and was a bartender at the Long Lake Inn, the Fireplace Inn, the Hofbrau and the Interlochen Eagles Club. He was an active member at the Eagles Lodge and was instrumental in the Rodeo and Corn Roast fund-raisers and for many years had been the gate keeper at the rodeo.
      Bob was an avid gardener, loved to cook and can, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
      Survivors include six children, Suzanne (James) Chapman of Tucson, Ariz., Joann (Jim) Anderson of Traverse City, Michael (Pat) Elsenheimer of Houston, Texas, Ruth Ann (Craig) Miller of Canon City, Colo., John (Kelly) Elsenheimer of Lakewood, Calif., and Louis Elsenheimer of Florida; former wife, Jo Elsenheimer of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers; three sisters; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.
      A wake will be held today Friday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. at the Interlochen Eagles Club.
      Memorials may be directed to the club.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Dorothy Evelyn Oswalt Engelman, 101, of Traverse City, formerly of Ft. Wayne, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Dorothy was born Nov. 7, 1902, in Wabash, Ind., the daughter of Dick and Mabel (Coate) Oswalt. On Sept. 16, 1925, in Wabash, she married C. Merle Engelman, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Chippewa High School in 1920.
      One of Dorothy's first jobs in Wabash was as a photographer's assistant. In 1929, Dorothy and her husband moved from Wabash to Ft. Wayne. While in Ft. Wayne she and her husband owned and operated Moellering Mills. In 1996 she moved to Hope Village to be near her family.
      Dorothy was a loving matriarch who set the family standards. She was caring, friendly, intelligent and open-minded with a wide variety of interests. Personal activities she enjoyed were square dancing, bridge, being an avid reader, the theater, music (especially the Cherry Capital Chorus of Traverse City), traveling (she went to London when she was 95), hanging wallpaper and decorating. She was also an avid Big Ten basketball fan.
      Among her many achievements, she was a charter member of the Airstream Club of Indiana and Minerva Home Ec. Club; member of PEO-Chapter DC; PTA; Girl Scouts; DAR; and she was a founder of the Christmas Bureau of Ft. Wayne.
      Dorothy was formerly an active member of First Wayne St. United Methodist Church and attended Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City.
      Always open to doing interesting things, Dorothy shared her memories with Traverse City Central High School students in their Humanities and Psychology classes. While living at Hope Village, Dorothy did TV commercials for them.
      Surviving are her children, Nancy (Bob) Schmitt of Purcellville, Va., Jody (John) Cravens of Pullman, David (Luann) Engelman of Fairfield, Conn., Betsy (Maurie) Allen of Traverse City; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends at Hope Village.
      Preceding her in death were her husband, C. Merle Engelman; a sister and four brothers; son-in-law, Richard Alan Hess; and a great-grandson, Jack Edward Allen.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in the chapel of the Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City, with the Rev. Tamera Williams officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service.
      On Monday, Nov. 17, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., at 1 p.m. in the Lindenwood Cemetery, services will take place and she will be placed in the crypt next to her husband.
      Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army or to the Jason and Suzanne Allen Regional Giving Fund.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      GLORIA HOLLOWAY, 87, of White Lake, formerly of Traverse City, died at Huron Valley Hospital Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, after a brief illness.
      Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at Lynch & Sons, Richardson-Bird Chapel, 404 E. Liberty, Milford. Cremation will follow.
     
      EMMA KLEMENT, 96, of Manistee, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at the Autumn Winds AFC in Ludington.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 480 Water St., in Manistee. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
     
      ANN DONALD WUNSCH, 80, of Old Mission, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
