KINGSLEY - Glenn Guldner, Jr., 54, of Kingsley, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, after a valiant four-year battle with cancer.
Glenn was born in Detroit on June 1, 1949, son to Doris (Routzahn) Guldner and Glenn Guldner, Sr.
Glenn had a knack for many trades through his active years but will be most remembered for his 25 years of loyal service to the Michigan State Police.
Fresh out of the State Police Academy in 1974, Glenn began his career stationed at Ithaca Post #14 for three years, then "did his time at Post #29."
Joining the elite K-9 unit in 1978, Glenn spent four years at Mt. Pleasant Post #63 splitting time between local work and training new recruits at the State Police Academy in Lansing.
Finally Glenn moved his family to the Kingsley area to finish his career at Traverse City Post #71.
Outside of the state police Glenn also will be remembered for his community involvement. Glenn served on the Kingsley Area Schools School Board for 12 years.
In 1999 Glenn retired from the state police and the school board only to take over as Kingsley High School's Athletic Director, holding the position for three years. He brought in a first-ever wrestling program during his tenure. Glenn worked as A.D. full time even amidst chemo and radiation treatments he was receiving.
Glenn is survived by his daughter Laura (Guldner) VanCamp, son Eric Guldner, son Josh Guldner and five grandchildren all of Kingsley and three brothers, Charles and David Guldner of Houghton Lake and Randy Guldner of Buckley and two sisters, Lisa (Guldner) Haskell of Harrison and Mitzi (Guldner) Brimmer of St. Louis, Mich.
Preceding Glenn in death were his parents Glenn Guldner, Sr. and Doris Guldner and his loving wife Linda (Klempp) Guldner.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Linda Guldner Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to Dr. Robert Schwert and his staff and Dr. John Cilluffo for their dedication and care. Munson Hospital is very fortunate to be associated with such fine men.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home of Kingsley.
