Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling is handling arrangements. MARILYN A. HIGGINBOTHAM, 53, of Kalkaska, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are being handled by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska. CHARLES 'STEVE' MERKLE, 53, of Kalkaska, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 26, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, with visitation from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Lodi Cemetery. FLORENCE ROSEMARY 'BOOTS' NICHOLAS, 72, of Copemish, formerly of Detroit, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at her residence. Cremation has taken place, and no services will be held at this time. The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements. JOSEPH G. QUINN, 79, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at his home in Manistee. Visitation will take place Friday, Nov. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. RICHARD REIHMER, 74, of Benzonia, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital-LTC in Frankfort. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes, with Rev. Richard Stoddard officiating. MYRTLE L. 'LOUISE' SPEARS, 79, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Visitation will take place Friday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. A full obituary will appear in the Thursday edition of the Record-Eagle. BETTY ANNE TAYLOR, 81, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. MARJORIE E. VANDRIE, 87, of Lake City, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 26, at the Lake City Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in Lake City Cemetery. Young Funeral Home in Lake City is in charge of arrangements. Charles R. Fisher Died November 6, 2003 CHICO, Calif. - Charles R. "Bud" Fisher, formerly of Traverse City, died at home after a brief illness. Born March 10, 1924, in Traverse City, he was the son of Charles W. and Maude G. (Gibbs) Fisher. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II. A member of the Michigan Bar, he also had a lifelong love of music, and was a longtime member of SPEBSQUSA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Fisher. He is survived by his children, Hal (Jan) Fisher of Suttons Bay, Mina (Gary) Hector of Magalia, Calif., Charles (Michelle) Fisher of Grosse Pointe Park, Mary J. (Vance) Corrigan of Livingston, Mont., and Margaret Post of Chicago. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Laura Schumacher Died November 13, 2003 PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Laura (Cieslak) Schumacher, 96, of Port Orange, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003. Laura was born Sept. 14, 1907, in Milwaukee and moved to Traverse City in 1955. She had been living with her daughter, Dianne, in Port Orange for the past three years. While living in Traverse City, Laura and her husband, Henry (deceased), owned and operated three restaurants, Canada's Cafe, Cherryland and the Aurora, before retiring in 1969. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the Variety Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Cieslak; husband, Henry; three brothers, Bill, Walter and Frank; three sisters, Helen, Wanda and Felicia; and a granddaughter, Laurie Rader. She is survived by a son, Ronald Schumacher of Traverse City; a daughter, Dianne Weavers of Port Orange, Fla.; a brother, Bernie Cieslak of Ohio; a grandson, Jon Schumacher of Traverse City; a granddaughter, Mary Schumacher of Port Orange; a great-granddaughter, Dani Rader of Holland; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and arrangements were handled by Shannon Funeral Home, Port Orange, Fla. Joseph Victor Seymour Died November 23, 2003 TORRANCE, Calif. - Joseph Victor Seymour, 85, of Torrance, Calif., formerly of Maple City, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, following an extended illness. Born July 12, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., and raised in Chicago, he was the son of Joseph S. and Eva F. (Travenski) Seymour. Joseph married Irma Lillian Noonan in 1943, and she preceded him in death in October 1961, after 18 years of marriage. He married Marjorie Jean Schmidt in 1967, and she preceded him in death in March 1983. While in high school, Joseph became very involved with the model aviation business, designing kits for Cleveland, Lindberg and several other companies. He later worked in the U.S. Patent office. While enrolled in the St. Louis School of Aeronautics for three years, he was assigned to war production design at the start of World War II. Joseph had also been employed as both an architect and professional photographer. He had many hobbies, of which photography was his favorite. He met his wife, Irma, while working at Republic Drill and Tool as an Engineer in 1943, and they moved to the Maple City area in 1954. He then became employed at Cone Drive Gears until his retirement in 1982. Joseph was a member of the Maple City Community Church. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart and it was the foundation of his life. Survivors include his daughter, Robin Jo (John) Lambkin of Grand Rapids, Daniel Keith Seymour of Santa Barbara, Calif., and John Christian (Cherylyn) Seymour of Torrance, Calif.; three step-children, John Schmidt of Ayr, Ontario, Canada, William Schmidt of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and Inez Schmidt of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Gabriel Schlosser, Annie Marie Burritt, Holland Taylor Seymour and John Christian Seymour Jr. Along with his wife, Irma, and wife, Marjorie, Joseph was also preceded in death by one step-son, Thomas Schmidt, who died in the summer of 1973 shortly before he was to attend college. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Maple City Community Church in Maple City on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 1 p.m. Pastor Carroll Sattler will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Maple City. In remembrance of Joseph, memorial contributions may be directed to the Maple City Community Church.
