Obituaries

HELEN IRENE FRANKA, 81, of Kaleva, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at The Maples - Benzie County Medical Care Facility in Frankfort.
      She was born July 17, 1922, in Manistee, the daughter of Bruno and Ida Edman.
      Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Private graveside services will be held Monday, Dec. 1, at Maple Grove Township Cemetery in Kaleva.
      Terwilliger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
     
      WILLIAM J. PATULSKI, 85, of Stronach died on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee. He was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Freesoil.
      Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, where an evening prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Old Stronach Cemetery following the funeral service. Arrangements are being handled by the Herbert Funeral Home.
     
      MELVIN J. "BUTCH" VASSER, 62, of Mesick, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 29, at Young Funeral Home in Lake City. Burial will be at Lake City Cemetery.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Raymond W. Ansorge, 86, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Maple Valley Nursing Home.
      Born Nov. 17, 1917, in Traverse City, he was the son of William and Sophia (Kubesh) Ansorge, who preceded him in death.
      Raymond was a lifelong resident of Traverse City and had a 100 acre farm, of which 55 acres was fruit. He enjoyed farming as well as old cars and tractors. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was devoted to God through prayer. Raymond also was a member of Farm Bureau.
      Raymond is survived by his former wife, Audrey; and their 10 children, Christopher Ansorge, Cindy Rutherford, Julie (Tim) Schreiner, Richard (Cyndi) Ansorge, Anthony (Susan) Ansorge, Laurie Schaub, all of Traverse City, Gary (Roxanne) Ansorge of Cadillac, William Ansorge of Fife Lake, Janet (Charles) DeClarke of Holt, Mary (Brian) Wheeler of Big Sky, Mont.; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine (Henry) Claus of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews.
      A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. James Hayden serving as celebrant.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery or the Father Fred Foundation.
      Arrangement are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      BEULAH - Mary L. McLaren, 82, of Beulah, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Mary was born on Dec. 15, 1920, in Emmett, Mich., the daughter of William and Elsie (Bailey) Brandon.
      Mary served with the U.S. Army during World War II, serving at Pearl Harbor. She received an honorable discharge.
      While stationed at Pearl Harbor, she met and married her husband, Donald J. McLaren, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2003.
      Mary was the owner and operator of the Honeymoon Inn in Beulah for 30 years. She also was a member of the American Legion Post in Frankfort.
      Mary is survived by her son, James (Connie) McLaren of Beulah; her daughter, Shelia (Lloyd) Hale of Oregon; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Ellen) Brandon of Emmett, Mich., a brother-in-law, John Butler; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Brandon; and 12 nieces and nephews, one of whom was her goddaughter, Patricia Brandon.
      Graveside services will be held in the spring of 2004 with military graveside services under the auspices of the Frankfort American Legion Post.
      Memorials may be directed to the Benzie County Animal Welfare League. The family is being served by the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Olive M. "Ollie" Snyder, 93, of Traverse City, died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Bortz Health Care.
      She was born Oct. 6, 1910, in Leelanau County, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Denoyer) Ducheney. In 1930, she married Kenneth W. Snyder.
      A homemaker and a lifetime resident of Traverse City, Mrs. Snyder also was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
      She is survived by one son, William F. Snyder of Traverse City; one grandson, Tyson Snyder; three sisters, Elizabeth Lardie, Thersa Wood and Margarett Belanger, all of Traverse City; and one brother, Kenneth Ducheney of Traverse City.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; two sisters, Lucille Kelly and Marie Hubbell; and two brothers, Arthur Ducheney and Earl Ducheney.
      Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at St. Francis Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Maher will be celebrant. Interment will be at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
      The family asks that those wishing to give a memorial please remember the Carmelite sisters or Mass intentions. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
