JACK W. FARTHING, 85, of Traverse City, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services.
      A full obituary will appear in Tuesday's Record-Eagle.
     
      ROBERT L. MURRAY, 72, of Mancelona, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
      Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
     
      ELSIE G. ROE, 83, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Bortz Health Care, Traverse City.
      A full obituary and service information will appear in Monday's Record-Eagle.

      MARY ANN 'BONNIE' SWIDORSKI, 68, of Manistee, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Manistee Medical Care Facility.
      Visitation will be held today, Oct. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at Herbert Funeral Home, Manistee.
      Memorials services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to services.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Phyllis M. Borucki, 79, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      Born Sept. 12, 1924, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Harold "Cobby" and Stella (Naperalski) Burden. On Feb. 14, 1942, in Manistee, she married Ralph G. Borucki, who survives.
      Phyllis was a Traverse City resident since 1965, moving from Hart, and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. A homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, camping, and was active in square-dancing for 40 years.
      In addition to her husband, Phyllis is also survived by a son, Ralph (Mary Ann) Borucki of Chesaning; four daughters, Judy Ridley of Cadillac, Joy (Ken) Mackey of Traverse City, Sue (Jerry) Wright of Lake Ann and Toni (Kirk) Nostrant of Interlochen; a sister, Sally Howe of Manistee; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
      Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Harold "Cobby" and Stella Burden; a sister, Catherine Sullivan; and a half brother, Cobby Burden.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Monday, Oct. 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Gardiner serving as celebrant. Following cremation, interment will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial gifts may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Edward A. "Ward" Hansen Sr., 47, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at his home. He was born in Traverse City on June 15, 1956, the son of Bernard L. and Rita L (Crouch) Hansen Sr.
      Ward was employed at Security Sanitation in Traverse City. He enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, fishing and gardening.
      Ward is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Hansen of Detroit; two sons, Corey (Emily) Hansen of Detroit and Edward Hansen Jr. of Traverse City; his mother, Rita Hansen of Traverse City; his brother, Bernard Hansen Jr. of Traverse City; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
      He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Hansen Sr. in 1999, and his grandparents.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, from the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Daniel Biteman Jr. officiating.
      Visitation will be held at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m., and on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Women's Resource Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Margaret Anna Harris, 94, of Traverse City, formerly of East Lansing, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born July 29, 1909, in Dimondale, she was the daughter of Alice (Anderson) and Bert S. Harris.
      Margaret attended Michigan State University and was one of the first women graduates from the School of Business in 1930. She continued her affiliation as a life member of the MSU Alumni Club. She also received a master's degree from Columbia University, New York.
      Margaret taught math in East Lansing for several years, followed by a brief stint as an air traffic controller in Chicago, before settling in New York City and working for RCA. She retired from RCA in 1974 after a career of 30 years.
      Margaret was a devout member of Peoples Church in East Lansing for many years and an active member of the BM Chapter of P.E.O. in East Lansing.
      Preceding Margaret in death were her parents; two sisters, Louise Brady and Mary Wilson; and two brothers, John and Edwin Harris.
      Margaret is survived by her sister-in-law, Ferne Harris of Traverse City, many loving nieces and nephews and their families, and countless lifelong friends.
      Margaret will be most remembered for her generous spirit, positive attitude and interest in the lives of all with whom she had contact. She found joy in all she encountered and readily shared that enthusiasm.
      At her request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the chapel of Peoples Church in East Lansing. The Rev. Dr. Harry Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
      The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the loving care provided Margaret at Grand Traverse Pavilions, especially by the staff of Aspen Pavilion.

      SUWANEE, Ga. - Oscar Frederich Hufnagle, 81, of Suwanee, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, after an extended illness.
      Mr. Hufnagel was a native of Bay City and longtime resident of Traverse City. He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1941. He was active in all sports, an honor roll student, and received a scholarship from Valparaiso University.
      He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He married Doris E. Bonnell on Oct. 25, 1947.
      He was past president of Southwest Little League in Bay City, past president of Handy High Booster Club, and an elder, usher and Sunday school teacher at Zion Lutheran Church.
      Mr. Hufnagel moved with his family to Traverse City in 1968, where he presided as president of the Exchange Club and retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in 1981 with 40 years of service.
      He was a devoted family man who was kind and generous with a unique sense of humor to all he met. He leaves his family and friends with cherished memories of long boat rides, big fishing tales and fried egg sandwiches.
      Survivors include Doris, his loving wife of 56 years; two sons, Jay Hufnagel of Suwanee, Ga. and Andy Hufnagel of Deerfield, Mass.; a daughter, Beth Davis of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Anita Kaye of El Paso, Texas; a sister-in-law, Gloria Zabel of Bay City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford, Ga. The Rev. George Murdaugh will officiate. Interment will follow in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
     
      MAPLE CITY - Frank Vert, 82, a lifelong resident of the Maple City area and ardent farmer, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City.
      Born Sept. 2, 1921, in Maple City, he was the son of Francis and Anna (Skipski) Vert.
      Frank is survived by his brother, Jack (Grace) Vert of Williamsburg; his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Pilon of Two Rivers, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
      Preceding Frank in death were his parents; four brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Casimer "Cash" and Louis; two sisters, Martha Miller and Joan Kring; and two nephews, Raymond Schettek and Richard Vert.
      A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City, with the Rev. William Lipscomb serving as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Rita's Catholic Cemetery, Maple City.
      Memorials may be directed to the Maple Valley Nursing Home, 1086 W. Burdickville Rd., Maple City, MI 49664.
