Bash, 80, of Elk Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Munson Medical Center.Marian was a resident of Elk Rapids, formerly of Hemlock, where she was a receptionist for her husband in his dental office for over 20 years. She was born in Clifford on Sept. 15, 1923, the daughter of Robert S. and Lucy B. (Beadle) Christenson. On June 9, 1947, in East Detroit, she married Peter A. Bash, D.D.S., her husband of 56 years, who survives. Marian was a graduate of Michigan State University, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. She was very active in the Kewadin United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Dr. Peter A. Bash of Elk Rapids, she is survived by three sons, Earl (Sherry) Bash of Saginaw, Dr. Eric Bash of Hemlock and Dr. Ralph Bash of Tempe, Ariz.; her daughter, Martha (Andy) Thomas of Ben Lomand, Calif.; two grandchildren, Hillarie (Mark) Zarazua and Mark R. Bash; a brother, Carl (Shirley) Christenson; three sisters-in-law, Joycelyn Bash, Josephine Anderson and Mary Sweet; two brothers-in-law, Nicholas (Octavia) Bash and V. Paul Bash; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Kewadin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Pier-Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service. Full military honors under the auspices of the Elk Rapids AMVETS will take place after the service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Memorials may be directed to the Kewadin United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home, Elk Rapids. GRAND RAPIDS - Robert J. Piette, 80, of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie; children, Gery Lou, Chari Lynn Lovely, Sandra K. Dickensheets, Chuck (Susan), Terry Joe, Merri Jo and Earl Crocket; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Catherine (Bob) Larcom. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the VFW Creston Post, 1535 Monroe Ave. NW, in Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were provided by Memorial Alternatives of Grand Rapids. SOUTH BOARDMAN - Gilbert Charles Perrin, 80, of South Boardman, formerly of Grandville, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Grandville on Oct. 26, 2003, after a courageous battle with asbestosis. He was born on May 29, 1923, in Garfield Township, the son of Benjamin and Katie (Lund) Perrin. Gilbert graduated from Kalkaska High School. He was a veteran, serving our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He married Alice M. Hager on December 29, 1949, in South Boardman. Gilbert was a carpenter by trade and retired in 1985. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the "great outdoors," the activities at the Kalkaska Senior Center and just being with family. An avid baseball fan, Gilbert enjoyed watching the World Series this fall. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice; his children, Sherry (Robert) Sheldon of Grandville and Jeffrey (Mary Frey) Perrin of St. Joseph; his grandchildren, Todd (Melinda) Sheldon, Amy Sheldon, Katie, Paul and Emily Perrin; very dear friend, Waunettea DeRosha of Manton; his brothers, Warren Perrin and Devere (Louise) Perrin, both of Fife Lake; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and faithful little dog, Gracie. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald F. Perrin. Visitation will be this evening, Oct. 28 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kimberland Hough officiating. Interment will be at Garfield Township Cemetery. SUTTONS BAY - Edward Arthur Drone, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at his Suttons Bay home. He was born in Williamsburg Sept. 4, 1926, the son of Edward D. and Lottie (Milks) Drone. On Jan. 12, 1952, he married Orpha Reincke at Keswick United Methodist Church. Edward was a fireman in Kalamazoo, and retired as a machinist from Ace Welding. He enjoyed working in his garden. Edward is survived by his wife, Orpha Drone; children, Victor Drone of Traverse City, Alaine (Carl) Lacki of Manistee, Carole (Bill) Jackson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Susan (Frank) Bauer of Traverse City; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie (Charles) Van Ostran of Kalamazoo and Charlotte Johnson of Bridgman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Yorks; and a sister, Daisy Stoll. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. TRAVERSE CITY - Richard Charles "Dick" Lambert, 89, of Traverse City, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Tendercare of Traverse City. Dick was born in East Bay Township on Sept. 2, 1914, the son of Thomas C. and Rose (Courtade) Lambert. He was the third generation of the Lambert family to be born in East Bay Township. On Oct. 15, 1940, he married the former Mary F. Bolek. Together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage before Mary's death on Dec. 19, 2001. Dick was a farmer but also was a laborer for the local Labor Union, working at Koenig Construction and Comstock Construction most of his working career. Dick and Mary enjoyed visiting with friends and family and would often put hundreds of miles on the car each week in their visiting expeditions. He enjoyed gardening in years past and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Survivors include his brother, James Lambert of Mancelona; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Henrietta Lambert, Louise Lambert, Mary York, Donald Lambert and Robert Lambert. Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at St. Francis Catholic Church, with Father James Gardiner serving as celebrant. Burial will take place in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church or to Mass Intentions. SPRING LAKE - In the presence of her family members, the guardian angels ushered Marie Theresa (Midge) Byl of Spring Lake to her heavenly home Sunday afternoon. For 72 years she enjoyed a full and satisfying life. Midge was born in Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada, and moved to Spring Lake when she was 13 years old. She married Gary Byl, of Grand Haven, on Jan. 30, 1953. Midge and Gary spent most of their lives in the Spring Lake area, with a brief time in Aurora, Colo. They traveled throughout the country, enjoying time with children and grandchildren along the way. In addition to her favorite role as a homemaker, Midge enjoyed working with friends at E'Leet Estate Sales, Plantenga's Cleaners, and for Dr. Creason and Dr. Jordan. She was very active in the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, Love Inc. Food Pantry, Women's Association and Deacons group. Other activities included American Legion Auxiliary, band and athletic parent booster at Spring Lake Schools, bowling for Fricano's Pizza for 25 years, and countless community activities. Midge is survived by her best friend and husband of 50 years, Gary; sons Bruce (Mary) of Traverse City and Michael (Tracy) of Ridgefield, Conn.; daughters Michelle (Mike) Davis of Traverse City, Jeanne (Dave) Underwood of Reno, Nev., and Nancy (Fred) Darga of Spring Lake; sisters Jeanne (Charlie) Brogger of Coronado, Calif., and Bea (Bud) Kieft of Grand Rapids; brother Jim (Diane) Gignac of Grand Haven; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Midge was preceded in death by a son, John; parents, Cecilia and Larry Gignac; a sister, Pip Westrate; and a brother, Larry Gignac. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, at 11:30 a.m. at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson and Pastor Mike Davis officiating. Friends may meet the family at church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Along with his parents, he is also survived by his sister, Meredith, at home; paternal grandparents, Maurie and Betsy Allen of Traverse City; maternal grandparents, Dale and Claire Miller of Farmington Hills; paternal great-grandmothers, Dorothy Engelman of Acme and Marguerite Allen of Strongsville, Ohio; maternal great-grandfather, Harry Bishop of Northville; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Baby Jack was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfathers, Merle Engelman and Neil Allen; maternal great-grandmothers, Blanche Bishop and Leota Miller; and maternal great-grandfather, Harold Miller. Arrangements are pending at Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay. MANLY GORDON FRENCH, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at his Grayling home. Visitation will take place today, Oct. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29. Burial will be in Lake City Cemetery in Lake City. MARTHA F. GORZYNSKI, 87, of Manistee, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at West Winds Nursing Home in Commerce Twp. Visitation will take place this evening, Oct. 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with evening prayer service at 8 p.m. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Manistee. DONALD 'BUTCH' HUGHES, 92, of Manistee, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at the Manistee Medical Care Facility in Manistee. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with visitation one hour prior to the service. BEULAH - Robert Joseph Rieschl, 81, of Beulah, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at his home. He was born May 15, 1922, in Neenah, Wis., the son of Frank W. and Eva (Mayhew) Rieschl. Bob graduated in 1940 from St. Mary Catholic High School in Menasha, Wis., where he excelled in sports, especially football, where he earned All-State honors as a running back. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving on B-24s during World War II. After being honorably discharged, Bob worked in the tool and die industry as a jig bore operator and as a commercial airline pilot. Later, he worked for M.H. Detrick as a sales engineer, designing air pollution abatement equipment for the steel industry. In 1972, Bob and his wife Rosemary purchased Crystal Lake Golf Club in Beulah, which at that time was nine holes. In 1987, he fulfilled his dream of adding a back nine, making it an 18-hole golf course. In 1989, Bob retired and split his time between Beulah in the summer months, and Carrabelle, Fla., during the winter. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and sports fan. On July 1, 1947, at St. Martin-on-the-Lake in Detroit, Robert married Rosemary Flanagan, who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Marianne Fleetwood of Benzonia and Maureen Rieschl of Milan; one son, Matthew R. Rieschl of Beulah; and eight grandchildren, Steven, Brian and Dan Fleetwood, Jacquelyn LaValley, Carrie (Dwight) Pepper, Kate and Elizabeth Johnson and Shawn Johnson Rieschl. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael J. Rieschl; and his sister, Marjorie Hartung. The family will receive friends today, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Copemish, with Father Raymond Sonefeld officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice. The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
