September 1, 2003ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Eugene "Gene" Tokraks passed away at home Aug. 22, 2003, with members of his family by his side. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Feb. 14, 1919, son of the late Charles and Agnes (Quatman) Tokraks.Gene worked for Universal Flavors in St. Louis for many years and moved to Elk Rapids in 1973 to manage the Cherry Division. Illness forced him to retire in 1980, and he later moved to Traverse City. He loved baseball and coached Little League in St. Louis and Fenton. He enjoyed family gatherings, skiing, bike riding, and even tested his skill at skateboarding. He also loved the annual trips back to Missouri with his granddaughter, Brigitte Grove, to visit family and friends. Gene is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Eugene (Maggie) of Gilbert, Ariz., and Ed (Jan) of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Judy (Doug) Grove of Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Clara, Lorraine, Rose and Annette; two brothers, John and Joe; and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda, in 1973; and his brother, Charles, in 1998. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Florissant, Mo., on Aug. 27, with Father Joseph Banden officiating. SUTTONS BAY - Beatrice Josephine Priest, 91, of Suttons Bay, died at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003. She was born in Northport on Dec. 5, 1911, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Swenson) Larson. In August of 1964 in Suttons Bay, she married Raymond Priest, who preceded her in death in 1982. A nurse's aide, Beatrice was one of the founding members of the Suttons Bay-Bingham Friendship Center and played in the Kitchen Band. She was also a member of RSVP and Sons of Norway, and was a great raffle ticket seller. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. Beatrice is survived by her children, June (Bob) Kuemin, Dawn (Merle) Smith, Donald Nelson, Carol Luimsta, Charles Nelson, Glen Nelson, James Priest, Donald Priest Nancy Priest and David Priest; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Bob Rubio; and a brother, Lawrence Larson of Bella Vista, Ark. In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Rubio; brothers and sisters, Arnold Larson, Frederick Larson, Myrtle Sharnowski and Eleanor Christianson; and her first husband, Norman Nelson. Visitation will take place Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay, with the Rev. Paul E. Kuhlman officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Suttons Bay. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. Arrangements have been handled by Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay. TROY - Mary (Dragich) Dungjen, 87, of Troy, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Feb. 19, 1916. She was married to Sam Dungjen, who preceded her in death April 29, 1989. Mary was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She loved sewing, crocheting and cooking for her family. She enjoyed traveling and playing euchre with the Troy Senior Citizens. She was a resident of Troy since 1949. Mary is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann (Reg) Kaminiecki of Troy; sons, Theodore (Millie) Dungjen of Cedar and Donald (Sherry) Dungjen of Coarsegold, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alexander Dragich of South Carolina. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Victor Dragich; and two sisters, Anna Chiro and Flora Hendrix. Visitation will take place Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd, Troy. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home Wednesday, Sept. 3, with the Rev. W. Herbert Glenn officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. TRAVERSE CITY - Marie Aube Brady, 86, of Traverse City, died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning. Marie was the daughter of Alderic L. and Anna (Bedard) Aube, born in Ossienke on Aug. 16, 1917. She later married Donald E. Brady in Nicholson Hill on July 11, 1943. Marie lived in Traverse City since 1945, coming from Detroit. She became a member of St. Francis Catholic parish, where she was a Eucharistic minister, and an Altar Society member. She worked for Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools at St. Francis Cafeteria for 20 years. Marie was an active volunteer with the Gladhander Auction, and a member of Traverse City Elks Lodge/Daisy Chain. Marie is survived by her three sons, Patrick (Mary) Brady of Traverse City, James (Cayth) Brady and Timothy Brady, both of Colorado, Springs, Colo.; daughter, Katy (Bonnie Anderson) Brady of Hayward, Calif.; son-in-law, James Schram; sisters, Anabelle LaBonte, Margaret (Robert) Noble, Lillian (Wilbert) Scheske and Eva (Paul) Pender; brothers, Henry Charles Aube, Donia (Helen) Aube, Leo Aube, Lawrence (Levona) Aube and James (Beverly) Aube; sister-in-law, Lucille Aube; eight grandchildren, Kathryn Schram Markie, Karen Schram Fischer, Kimberly Brady, Kelly Brady, Karri Brady Vaughan, Molly Brady, Devon Brady and Shawn Anderson; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald E. Brady; daughter, Maureen Schram; and three brothers, Edward Aube, Arthur Aube and Raymond Aube. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father James Gardiner serving as celebrant. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to GTACS Scholarship Fund or St. Francis Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
