Obituaries

      CORNELIA GRACE EBEL, 84, of Honor, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 7, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
      The funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 8, at the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas L. Maher officiating. Interment will be at Rest lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Holland, with a memorial and committal service at the cemetery at 1 p.m.
      A full obituary will be in Wednesday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

      VERNON E. FRYE, 90, of Kalkaska, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, where visitation will take place hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.

      ANDRÉ ALEXANDER KRIST, 18, of Traverse City, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Jackson.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.

      RALPH LESLIE LAWSON, 74, of Bear Lake, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort.
      Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Edwards Oak Grove Funeral Home in Bear Lake. Following cremation at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee, final interment will be in the Onekama Village Cemetery.

      LILLIAN M. STEPPIG, 91, of Manistee, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
      Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at Heritage Baptist Church in Manistee, where family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.
      The Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
     
      Marguerite Scott Allen
      Died April 3, 2004
      TRAVERSE CITY - Marguerite (Scott) Allen, 92, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Ohio.
      She was the beloved wife of the late Neil Allen; dearest mother of Luann (David) Engelman of Fairfield, Conn., Barbara (Edward) Lauer of Cleveland, Ohio, and Maurice (Betsy) Allen of Traverse City; grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of eight.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at Myers Funeral Home, 415 N. Lee St., in Markle, Ind., where friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7. Interment will be in Markle Cemetery.
      In Marguerite's memory, memorial donations may be directed to the Allen Regional Giving Fund, 250 E. Front St., Traverse City, MI 49684.

      Richard E. Fountain
      Died April 3, 2004
      TRAVERSE CITY - Richard Earl Fountain, 73, formerly of Taylor, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      He was the beloved father of Timothy (Debbie) Fountain and Michele (Michael) Zaleski; and dearest grandfather of Ryan, Alicia, Charlene and Tommy.
      Visitation will take place today, April 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph Rd.
      Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 7, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grand Traverse Pavilions, 1000 Andrew Weiszer Dr., Traverse City, MI 49684.

      Clemens Fralick
      Died April 3, 2004
      WYOMING, Mich. - Clemens Fralick, 76, of Wyoming, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 3, 2004.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella, in 2002.
      He is survived by two daughters, Cindy and Debbie; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Huff, of Fife Lake.
      Clem was a member of the American Legion Post #219.
      A Memorial service is pending in Fife Lake.
      Arrangements are being handled by Memorial Alternatives.
     
      Frank Ray Israel
      Died April 4, 2004
      KALKASKA - Frank Ray Israel, of Kalkaska, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Kalkaska Memorial Heal Center-LTC in Kalkaska.
      He was born June 16, 1932, in Asheville, N.C., the son of Robert Sam and Nellie (Carver) Israel. Frank married Mabra "Lucille" on Oct. 12, 1946, in Asheville.
      Frank retired from BASF of Wyandotte after 30 years of service. He was veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the New Morgan Hill Baptist Church of Candler, N.C., until moving to Kalkaska in August 2000, when he began worshipping at the Kalkaska Church of Christ.
      Frank is survived by his beloved family, son, David (Nanette) Israel of Kalkaska; daughter, Sheila Ann (J.C.) Tweed of Candler, N.C.; grandchildren, Lisa Marie Israel, David John Israel, Lyndsay Jean Israel, Frank Oliver Israel, Rachael Massie and Ashley Burgis; six great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Reva Angel of Leicester, N.C., Robert (Sue) Israel of Leicester, N.C., Gay (Shirley) Israel of Leicester, N.C., and Sue Miller of Greenville, S.C.
      Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dink and Charles; and a sister, Ellen Fisher.
      Visitation will take place today, April 6, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home, 106 S. Cherry St., in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at the Kalkaska Church of Christ in Kalkaska. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Candler, N.C.
      Contributions may be given in memory of Frank Ray Israel to the Alzheimer's Association, Northwest Michigan Chapter, 531 1/2 S. Union St., Traverse City, MI, or to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center-LTC, 419 S. Coral, Kalkaska, MI.
      Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home.
     
      George H. Miley
      Died April 4, 2004
      BELLAIRE - George H. Miley, 75, of Bellaire, died Sunday evening, April 4, 2004, at home.
      He was born May 27, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Dale and Florence (Cowell) Miley.
      George was a graduate of the University of Toledo, receiving both a bachelor and master degree in education, going on to teach and eventually becoming principal in the Toledo Public Schools system. His passion was coaching football, which he did for many years in Toledo. He was also an active volunteer for the South Toledo YMCA and the Toledo First Congregational Church. He served for four years in the Army National Guard.
      George commuted to Lake Bellaire for most of his life to manage Miley's Resort, a third generation family business, along with his brother Bill. He and his wife moved to Bellaire permanently six years ago and continued operating the resort.
      On Jan. 19, 1952, in Toledo, he married Annabelle Long, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Russell H. (Mary E.) Miley of Bellaire and James W. (Teresa) Miley of Bellaire; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn (Michael) Slusher, Noelle (John Dawley) Miley, Jacob Miley, Matt, Michele and Mark Ashcraft, all of Toledo, Brandi VanAmburg of Traverse City and Vaughn (Kelly) VanAmburg of Valdosta, Ga.; a brother, William C. (Dorothy) Miley of Oak Harbor, Ohio; a niece, Loretta (David) Baker of Oak Harbor; a great-niece, Jessica Baker, and a great-nephew, Robert Baker of Oak Harbor.
      The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Central Lake First Congregational Church.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Central Lake First Congregational Church, with Rev. Daniel Clark officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.

      Lillian A. Ross
      Died April 5, 2004
      TRAVERSE CITY - Lillian A. Ross, 90, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.
      Lillian was born in Allen, Mich., on July 6, 1913, the daughter of Florence (Lesnet) and Barney D. Smith. She married James Orsborn and at the time of his death they had been married for 50 years. She then married C. Eldon Ross, and he preceded her in death after 15 years of marriage.
      Lillian lived almost all of her life in Bell Oak and then spent 15 years living in Clio. In April of 2003, she moved to Traverse City to be near her daughter. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio and had been a member of Bell Oak United Methodist Church. She also held membership in the Eastern Star and enjoyed running a little general store in Bell Oak with her husband James.
      Lillian enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling and will best be remembered for her beautiful smile and warm heart.
      Surviving Lillian is her daughter, Kay L. Ance of Traverse City, and her family, Craig and Cassie Britten and their children, Karissa and Conner, of Naples, Fla., Curt and Kathy Britten and their children, Chad and Kaylnn, of Traverse City and Kris Britten, also of Traverse City; her son, Jerry A. and Carol Orsborn of Lansing; her step-children, Kenny and Gerri Ross of Connecticut and their children, Eric and Deborah Ross and their daughter, Madeline and Mike and Kim Ross of Connecticut; Jane and Duane Fuller of Clio and Charles and Pat Ross of Lansing, their children, Gabe and Kim Ross, and their daughters, Emerson and Ava of Grand Rapids, and Rachel and Jarrid Fetterley and their daughter, Chase, of Lansing.
      In addition to her husbands and parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her brothers, Loren, Theron and Milton.
      Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, at the Wacousta Community United Methodist Church in Wacousta.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choosing.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
