LAWRENCE 'LARRY' FRECHETTE, 92, of Manistee, died on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Manistee County Medical Care Facility. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with an Evening Prayer service at 8 p.m. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, also in Manistee. Arrangements are being handled by Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Memorial services for CATHARINE 'KAY' HORNING, who died on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City. The Rev. D. Edward Emenheiser will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti. Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. MAPLETON - Helen Eleanor Carroll, of Mapleton, passed peacefully away in the early morning of Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Bortz Health Care Facility In Traverse City. She was 84 years young. Helen was born in Traverse City on Oct. 3, 1920, the daughter of area cherry industry pioneers, Andrew P. Carroll and Lillian E. (Hoffman) Carroll, both deceased. She grew up and spent her life in the family home in Mapleton on Old Mission Peninsula, and attended and graduated from St. Francia High School in 1939. Preceding her in death were her sister, Marie Ferro of Grand Rapids, and a brother, Albert of Mapleton. Helen is survived by her nieces, Carol Thomassen and Lou (Richard) Haggai, both of Grand Rapids; nephews, Larry Ferro of Anchorage, Alaska, James Carroll of Salt Lake City, and Patrick (Christine) Carroll of Houston; and many cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was well known to almost everyone in the Traverse City area who were fortunate enough to pass through her drive-up bank window at the Traverse City State Bank, where she worked a good period of her life. Or those who attended area Bingo games where, as an avid Bingo player, Helen was known for the number of cards she played. She also belonged to area bowling leagues, was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Mapleton, and participated In numerous fund-raisers. Helen's special gift was her unselfish and undeniable love of caring for and helping others. In 2002, she was duly honored for 16 years of volunteer work for the Senior Companion Program. Helen will be profoundly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 16, 2004, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mapleton. Father James Hayden will serve as celebrant. Burial will be In St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Senior Volunteer Programs of Catholic Human Services, the Muscular Dystrophy Society, or The American Heart Association. FRANKFORT - Nellie E. Blank, 88, of Frankfort, died on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital LTC. Nellie was born on May 29, 1915, in Detroit, the daughter of Clifford and Marie (Boyd) Leseney. She had been a resident of Frankfort since 1968. Nellie's interests included cooking, animals, bird-watching, religion, charities and playing the piano. She had been a foster parent as well. She was also a member of the Frankfort Congregational Church. In 1936, Nellie married Clifford Blank, who preceded her in death in 1975. She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Charles) Ciccarelli of Ann Arbor; a son, Tom of Marine City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Mull of Berkeley, Mich. Memorial Services for Nellie will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004, from the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes, with Pastor Dinah Haag officiating. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Township Cemetery North. Memorials may be directed to the Frankfort Congregational Church.
