The family is being served by the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. PERRY A. LaPRATT, 41, of Alba, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Munson Hospice in Traverse City. The family will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. TERRY L. LINGER, 66, of Lansing and formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at his home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Ken Stachnik serving as celebrant. STEVEN LEROY PEARSON, 59, of Kalkaska, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Kalkaska. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at 9:30 a.m., at the Clearwater Township Cemetery, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. DIANA LEE PETTITS, of Arcadia, was called to our Lord on Friday, July 30, 2004. SHELDER, 74, of Interlochen, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2004, in Traverse City. Visitation will take place on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 03, 2004, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. JERRY P. VARGO, of Beulah, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004. Funeral services have been held. The Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes served the family. BENJAMIN EDWARD WHEATLEY, 78, of Leland, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Arrangements are entrusted to the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. EMPIRE - William Fredrick Helmrich, 87, of Empire, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Bill was born on November 25, 1916, in Detroit, the son of Esther Marie (Bentley) and George Bernard Helmrich. On August 26, 1938, he married Ruth Arline Altland, in Detroit. A permanent resident of this area since 1984, the family had summered here since the early 1970's. Previously they had lived in Birmingham, Bill having been an engineer for Ex-Cell-O Corporation prior to his retirement. Bill was a member of Glen Lake Community Reformed Church. He was active in Noontiders and many church activities. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth; his daughters, Saundra L. (Terry) Wilson of Suttons Bay and Mount Dora, Fla., Ruthann Walsh of Wilmington, N.C.; his grandchildren, Cheryl W. (Robert) vanTilburg of Jakarta, Indonesia, David C. (Sara) Wilson of Dallas, Texas, Kelley (Ben) Hall of Milton, Mass. and Timothy Walsh of San Francisco; four great-grandchildren, Sofia, Erik, Henry and William; and a brother, James Helmrich of Bloomfield Hills. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brothers, George and Duncan. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, with the Rev. Stephen Wing officiating. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the services. TRAVERSE CITY - Helen Xavier Pawloski went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Tendercare of Traverse City. Helen was born on March 23, 1908, in Detroit, to John and Elizabeth (Cummings) Williamson. On Sept. 9, 1930, she married Roman S. Pawloski, who preceded her in death in 1975. Helen was a devout catholic. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and in earlier years, she was active with the Alter Society. She loved her family and was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing Yatzee and cards, especially euchre and pinochle. Helen gave of her time serving as a volunteer where needed. She is survived by her sons, Raymond S. Pawloski of New Jersey, David (Sharon) Pawloski of Traverse City and Robert (Barb) Pawloski of Grawn; daughter, Patricia R. Pawloski of Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jim Loomis; daughter-in-law, Lorena Pawloski; as well as several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Joanne Norris, Mary Brinkman and Virginia Loomis; son, John P. Pawloski; and grandson, Christopher L. Loomis; and thirteen brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Peter Eke on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the St. Francis Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Greenbriar Cemetery in Lake Ann. The family asks those wishing to give memorials to please remember the St. Francis Catholic Church or Mass Intentions. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. FRANKFORT - Chester Sedgewick Koop, 87, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Chester was born on July 10, 1917, in New York, N.Y. Chester attended Duke University from 1935 until 1938, Duke Medical School from 1938 to 1940 and Long Island College of Medicine from 1940 to 1942. He received his medical degree in 1942. He interned at the New York City Hospital until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served as a lieutenant, working at the Pinecrest Sanitorium from 1943 to 1944 and 1946 to 1948. He also served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp as a captain from 1944 to 1945 and the Rocky Knoll Sanitorium, in Wisconsin, from 1948 to 1950. Chester was the medical director for the Genesee Sanitorium, in Flint, from 1950 to 1953. He had a private practice in Flint from 1953 to 1971. Chester was the chief of pulmonary disease from 1950 to 1970 at Hurley Hospital and at McLaren Hospital, in Flint, from 1955 to 1970. He was president of the Flint Academy of Medicine in 1960 and the Flint Heart Association in 1958. He also served on the board of trustees of TB and RD from 1960 to 1971, where he became president in 1968. Then Chester moved to northern Michigan where he worked at the Traverse City State Hospital as the medical director until his retirement in 1982. Chester was also an examiner for disability evaluation for OASI, General Motors and Metropolitan Insurance Company. In 1940, Chester married Grace W. Smith, who preceded him in death. In June of 1963, he married Mary Borey, who survives him. Also surviving are sons, Chester (Jan) of Davisburg and Charles (Christina) of Williamsburg; daughters, Suzanne (Ted) Wirick of Macclenny, Fla., Karen Newman of Benzonia, Diana (Ron) Conklin of Fenton, Pamela (Keith) Forton of Kewadin, Sally (Tom) Tompkins of Lansing and Cindy (Park) Herren of Benzonia; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Pat Gibbons of Flushing; and several nieces and nephews. Chester was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles; sister, Mary; and adopted brother, Charles "Buddy" Kennedy. Visitation will be today, Aug. 1, 2004, from 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m., at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Beulah, with the Rev. Harold "Skip" Comer officiating. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Township Cemetery North. Memorials may be directed to the Koop Memorial Bench Fund, c/o the city of Frankfort or to the St. Philip's Episcopal Memorial Pew Fund. Jump, 86, of Traverse City, died suddenly Thursday evening, July 29, 2004, in Traverse City. Born January 19, 1918, in Findlay, Ohio, she was the daughter of LaMoyne and Cozette (Miller) Wright. In 1939, she graduated from Findlay University with a degree in English. She spent the next 24 years as a high school English teacher. Her first job was in Fremont, Ohio, where she met and eventually married fellow teacher, John Jump, on Feb. 18, 1943. Other teaching posts included East Jackson and Manchester. In 1963, the family moved to Saline and Martha retired from teaching. Soon after, she began a 15-year career as the manager of the children's book department at Ulrich's Bookstore in Ann Arbor. John retired in 1982 and a year later they moved to Traverse City. In 1984, they joined the First Congregational Church and quickly became devoted members, serving together on the Diaconate Board and helping to develop the Garden of Remembrance. During the last several years of her life, Martha was most involved with the Thrift Shop, the Visitation Committee, and the Caregivers Group. She dearly loved her family and many friends, especially her grandchildren, and will be fondly remembered for always attending their many activities, even on into their adulthood. Her zest for life will be what is most remembered by all those who knew her. Survivors include a daughter, Jane L. (William) Wares of Traverse City; grandchildren, Andrew (Heather) Wares of Traverse City, Sara (Marcos) Gabriel of Valencia, Calif. and Michael Wares of Portland, Ore. Along with her husband, John, who died in 1989, Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Martin in 1985; and by three brothers, Carl, Charles and Richard. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 1 p.m., where friends may call at the time of the service. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate the service. Burial will be in the church's Garden of Remembrance. Memorial contributions may be directed to the House of Hope for teens, 1683 Hoch Road, Traverse City, Michigan 49686. The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - Eldon C. "Don" Henricks, 86, of Traverse City, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Munson Hospice House, following an illness of several months. Born Dec. 9, 1917, in Milwaukee, he was the son of Edward A. and Gladys (VanOudshoorn) Henricks. He attended school in Milwaukee before joining the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in 1940. On July 2, 1941, he married Dorothy L. Dietzel. For the duration of World War II, he served as a flight instructor in California and Arizona, receiving his commission as a captain in 1943. Among the many cadets he prepared for service was American film actor James Stewart. Don maintained an avid interest in aviation for his entire life. Don began a 32 year career in the automotive industry in 1947, joining the Oldsmobile Division as zone service representative in Madison, Wis. His later work with Oldsmobile in Lansing and Chicago led to a 1958 transfer to General Motors corporate headquarters in Detroit. He served for three years as a GM representative on the auto industry advisory committee to the National Highway Safety Board. He retired as director of product service training in 1979. Following retirement, Don and his wife settled in Traverse City where they were among the founders of the Friends of the Traverse Area District Library. The support Don provided to many local organizations was notable and included Interlochen Arts Academy, where he endowed a scholarship fund, in memory of his wife, following her death in 1990. But he will perhaps be best remembered for his trademark gifts of candy and pears to friends, neighbors and professional acquaintances and for his efforts to offer advice or a helping hand in almost any situation. He will also be remembered for his intelligence and independence and for being a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. Don is survived by two sons, Steve (Sue Ellen) Henricks of Traverse City and Douglas (Katherine) Henricks of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and three step grandchildren, Michael (Larine), and Danielle and Matthew Nixon, all of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, Glenn; and his daughter, Sandra L. Beye. In keeping with Don's wishes, no funeral services will be held. His ashes will be buried in the Garden of Remembrance at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City. Don requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Henricks Visual Arts Scholarship Fund at Interlochen Arts Academy. "I'm leveled off at four thousand feet, watching for the luminosity in the sky ahead that will mark the city of Paris. I can imagine that I'm looking through the earth to the heavens on the other side. I want to prolong this culminating experience of my flight--I almost wish Paris were a few more hours away. Maiolani, 82, of Traverse City, died Tuesday evening, July 27, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Born July 26, 1922, in Detroit, he was the son of the late Isadore and Mary (Santelli) Maiolani. On July 15, 1944, in Homestead, Pa., he married the former Mildred A. Palfy, who preceded him in death on June 18, 2001. Survivors include two sons, Carl J. (Clarine) Maiolani and their two children, Brian and Christopher, all of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; and Thomas (Linda Sioen) Maiolani of Maple City; and a sister, Catherine Deericks of Westlake, Ohio. No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one's choice. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. FIFE LAKE - Margaret Delores Aldridge, of Fife Lake, died Dec. 24, 2003, after an extended illness. Born in 1911, she was the wife of Hamilton Aldridge and the daughter of John and Mary Ellen Foster. Surviving are her children, Patricia (Dr. Leo) Kipfmueller of Fife Lake, Thomas (Jean) Aldridge of Greenville, S.C. and Hamilton Aldridge Jr. of Ferndale; 11 grandchildren, one of whom, John Kipfmueller, preceded her in death; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at 10 a.m., at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake, with Fr. Ray Cotter and Fr. James Barrand as con-celebrants. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery next to her husband, Hamilton.
