Ruth Lucille Smit
Died November 27, 2004
      ELK RAPIDS - Ruth Lucille (Gillett) Smit, 95, of Elk Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.
      She was born in Laingsburg on March 20, 1909, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Drake) Gillett. On June 1, 1929, she married Jack J. Smit in Lansing. Jack preceded her in death in September 1999.
      Ruth was a full-time homemaker who took great joy in music and literature. She gave her family unconditional love, a joy of life, peacefulness and a desire to be kind and true to all she knew. A long life well spent - she will be dearly missed.
      Ruth is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Ruth (James) Lawrence of Elk Rapids; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
      In addition to her husband. she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Jean Guthrie.
      Funeral services will be held in the summer of 2005.
      Arrangements are being handled by Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay.

John Roderick Neahr I
Died October 22, 2004
      BUCKLEY - John Roderick Neahr I, 71, of Buckley, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1933.
      John is survived by his wife, Sharon P. (Sumner) Neahr; daughters, Patricia D. (Ty) Zoerner of Grand Rapids, Samantha Neahr of Buckley; son, John R. Neahr II of Reed City; sister, Sylvia (Dave) Kelly; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      A memorial will be held at the Mesick Elementary School gym Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Agnes Irene Winowiecki
Died November 27, 2004
      CEDAR - Agnes Irene Winowiecki, 83, of Cedar, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at her home.
      She was born May 25, 1921, in Suttons Bay, to Rudolph and Irene (Steimel) Schaub. Agnes married Edward J. Winowiecki on May 9, 1944, in Suttons Bay.
      Agnes enjoyed playing bingo and all kinds of musical instruments, including the accordion, piano and guitar. She especially enjoyed polka music. She was always sewing, tatting, crocheting or knitting something for her grandchildren, whom she spoiled as often as she could. Agnes loved watching the birds and playing with her dog, Princess.
      Agnes is survived by a son, Gerald (Sandra) Winowiecki; daughters, Connie (Jim) Weatherholt, Kathy (Ken) Cowen, Becky (Jim) Corrigan and Jenny (Jeff) Sheffer; sister, Lavina (Robert) Moss; brothers, Celestine (Thelma) Schaub, Raymond (Jean) Schaub and Lavern Schaub; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and her close friend and caretaker, Becky Crampton.
      In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Winowiecki; a granddaughter, Debra Lynn; sister, Irene LaPeer; sister-in-law, Helen Schaub; and two brothers, Francis and Sylvester Schaub.
      Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 1, with viewing one hour prior to the service at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City. Fr. James Hayden will officiate.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

      ELSIE ELIZABETH KRAUSE, 89, of Kaleva, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Orchard Hill AFC Home in Brethren.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Bethany Lutheran Church, in Kaleva, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Pastor Wayne Buskirk will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Township Cemetery.
      Terwilliger Funeral Home of Kaleva is in charge of arrangements.
